I simply do not understand this! Is it something that happens chemically in the brain? Or is it just that the person is so squeemish they can't take it. I knew someone who flipped s**t when she saw her own blood. My brother-in-law passes out when he sees his own and my sister has a friend that passes out when she sees anyone's blood. I've also heard of people who can't even saw blood or see it written. O.o
When you're talking to me, someone who has thirteen piercings, that aren't just in the ears and currently has two tattoos, but has many more planned, I just do not understand it.
I really would love to know if this is something that can be explained medically, phycologically or what.

How can a girl be scared of blood? I mean, that s**t comes outta you once a month.
It might be an overreaction of the fight or flight response? Like too much adrenaline and blood rushing from the head to vital organs, or something. I know when I was watching the doctor slice out one of my moles I got a bit light-headed. I'm pierced and tattooed and have no problem with blood, so I'm not sure really what it was (although the fat layer was a bit disconcerting).
As for a general fear of needles, it might be something you get as a kid. Fears can be learned in childhood, so if you have a parent who is scared of something or who builds something up as something to be feared, then you may well be afraid of it yourself. It stands to reason a person is scared of needles if, before getting a shot as a kid, their mother told them it was very scary but it would all be alright.
I'd say it's a mixture of both things, fear and an overreaction regarding pain and fear response.

Sanguina Cruenta How can a girl be scared of blood? I mean, that s**t comes outta you once a month. . I know! I really wonder how someone like this would deal with that.Sanguina Cruenta It might be an overreaction of the fight or flight response? I'm pierced and tattooed and have no problem with blood, so I'm not sure really what it was (although the fat layer was a bit disconcerting). That could be a part of it. The adrenaline rush. I know I get some huge rushes from tattoos and piercings. Some people just may now be able to handle that much at once. I have issues with needles in my feet. They hurt so damed much! And they use that cold spray which is supposed to help. Ha!Sanguina Cruenta As for a general fear of needles, it might be something you get as a kid. I'd say it's a mixture of both things, fear and an overreaction regarding pain and fear response. I didn't think about childhood experiences. They could be many reasons right there. A bad blood test, a nasty nurse that the child associates with needles, et cetera. That makes sense.

Actually....I'm terribly afraid of injection or even needles. Its a mental thing which is triggered, in some cases including mine, by a bad memory, often paired with pain. Mine actually gets so bad that I begin to hyperventalate, faint, and go through "Mini Seizures" during or after any interaction.

Until Sanguina said something about childhood fears, I had not even thought about this. It's just like the experiment I think Frued did. He showed a small boy a white fluffy bunny, then made a loud noise to scare him. After the experiment the boy was terrified on anything white and fluffy. Now that that has been brought up, I completely understand it.
Hell, I was afraid of public toilets because one overflowed on me XD I'm over that now, but I still don't trust them. And it was a very traumatic experience for me. I think I was about 6. Still don't know why that didn't click before.

And I'm sure there are more than a few kids who are scared of Santa. Hell, they creep me out. Probably because most of them are *****, but whatever...

All that sneaking around children's bedrooms at night, having them sit on his lap.... Keeping elves as manual labour.... Mrs Claus is totally a beard. It's messed up, man.

Well, I am not even slightly squeamish at the sight of blood or needles, and I actually had an argument with my doctor when I wanted to watch when he tied my tubes. Anyway...
But I have a VERY illogical fear that doesn't seem to stem from anything... the fear of bath tub drains... the ones without the little grating cover on them and you can see right down into the pipe under the tub... I don't really understand it myself...
When I was little, all the way up into my teens, I would not get into a bathtub unless it had been plugged, and you sure as hell better not pull the plug before I got out. I finally was able to use common sense and reason to control my horrible shaking reactions, but those type of drains still trigger some sort of unreasonable creep-out in me.
...and it seems genetic... my daughter's very first bath in a tub when she was an infant turned into a screaming hour long fit after the water was let out. My mother and husband was at a loss, but I had an idea what it was... (my mother was giving the bath, so I didn't have opportunity to pass on any creeped vibes, and my mother was like, "Surely not!")... but next bath time came around, and everything was fine and fun until it was time to let the water out. With some gentle treatment of her fear, she seems to be almost over it. She beat me, because she is only 4. LOL
...but my experience with this strange fear makes me wonder if some of these fears are not somehow genetic... confused

I have never SEEN this happen with my own eyes.
I have heard plenty of people say it. I kinda feel they're just pussing out from giving blood or getting tattoos/piercings. I mean, blood & needles are part of the human experience in this century.

I'm not afraid of blood at ALL. Which I am extremely thankful for. My period is harrowing enough.
But for needles? I always get super nervous before a needle. But then when it comes, it's always like "meh." And I've always been like that. I used to cry when I was really little, but not since age 6-7. And tbh, I'm actually fine with needles. I just got a tattoo a few weeks ago. It was fine, but I felt quite nervous right before. I asked my aunt to hold my hand (she cam with me) but she laughed and told me to hold my own hand. (It sounds mean, but it was very funny) And it ended up not being a big deal. But the anticipation is always horrendous.

I was going to say if you just about die because of an injection...you won't like needles very much after that.

@ Elta I don't like those drains either! But I'm sure I know where my fear came from... Damn Simpsons... The episode with the gremlin on the plane? Yup... I had just watched that then went to take a bath by myself and no one was around. I know my mom was in the house, but it freaked me out cause the door was open and it was dark in the hallway... My sister also helped... She liked to read Amelia Badelia to me and there was one about these frog heads! Well... next thing I know I have a dream about literally frog heads with arms and legs that are dressed up like Native Americans. They chase me through my entire house. Then I find that this huge beetle has eaten my dogs' legs off! Lovely dream... Especially since it is one of my reoccuring ones...
@ MissDemeter My friend was like that. So I just told her it felt like a continous cat scratch. Se actually got a tattoo in one of the worst places and said she was fine. After the area goes numb it's a breeze. I was gritting my teeth with my foot though. Especially since is goes from one side of my foot to the other and down the sides. That was a weird feeling. Also when he kept going over the large tendon it kept making my foot comvulse and quiver. XD
