Shifting slightly she blinked open pale eyes, squinting into the noonday sun. It had been burning down all day and after travailing that morning, the pale leopardess had sought refuge in the shadow of a spreading prickly-thorn tree. Now, with the sun at its heighest point, she kept wiggling around, trying to keep to the depest shade as the shadow slowly moved across the dry earth. Soon she would have to break her cover and go in search of water, but for the time being, it was simply too hot to move.

For the sake of all that was not yet burned to a crisp, where on earth was that little lady jackal? Hubala had once again wandered off into the wild, sandy yonder to heaven only knew where. Jackals, apparently, made unreliable assistants. About the same as anything else I suppose.

Mijumaru hummed to himself with a dry laugh. Unfortunately for him, the pink canine was also his navigator through the confusing African landscape that often had the leopard wandering around in aimless circles. He'd never had a terribly capable sense of direction. How could anyone when everything in this dry, heathen terrain all looked the same? The sun scathing against his back. If not for the cool colors of his pelt and a pouch full of water-logged reeds from a watering hole many miles back, the clever feline would have been a gonner by now.

His gaze scanning the area for any sign of the pink terror, to no avail. There didn't appear to be too many friendly faces either. Well, except one.

A leopardess who was particularly easy on the eyes, sat in a shrinking spot of shade. Looking just about as desperate as could be to escape the breath-taking heat. Now, Miju was hardly a callous leopard, but he was rather on the oblivious side. Perhaps a bit too encumbered by his own distress to really think logically about the situation as he spoke. Hello..? I.. hmm.. I wonder if you might be able to tell me... where I am?

The impossible heat was like a dry weight pressing down on her. Muddling her mind and making it hard to think. So lethargic had she become that she never heard the leopard's approach nor sensed him in any way until he suddenly spoke from so close. The sudden knowledge of another, one she neither knew nor had watched arrive, startled the female, pale body jerking upright as lilac eyes widened, blinking then squinting against the glare to make out the stranger.

"Oh.. umm..." Blushing furiously she managed a shy smile, body relaxing from where it had pinned itself to the tree behind her till she as sitting more normally, and all four feet were on the ground.

"Well, I don't know if this place has a name... but I now kind of where we are... were you searching for a particular area?" Recovering her wits she took a proper look at the male, and found herself blushing all over again. He was rather hansom, with his pale fur and dark eyes. His voice sounded so gentle, not in the least frightening like most she met. The bag around his neck fascinated her, but she knew it would not be polite to go poking about someone else's property. "Maybe I can take you where you are going?" She offered before thinking.

Surprised to see her so suddenly startled Miju blinked owlishly. He had never been a leopard light on his feet and often chose far more creative methods to catch his prey. So the thought of catching another off guard was particularly baffling, his voice suggesting of apology when he spoke again. Oh.. my apologies, I didn't mean to surprise you.

It never dawned on the peculiar character that the flush on the cheeks of this lovely leopardess might have been due to embarrassment. With the heat as insufferable as it was, Mijumaru was certain that it was a sign of heat exhaustion. Inviting himself into the sparse shade of her tree as a few reeds were fished from his pouch and offered via an extended maw.

Here, take these. If you chews on them they'll release water, they're pretty refreshing and you look like you could use a drink. A great effort was made to speak as clearly as possible around the stalks and though he would have happily gushed about how he stumbled upon this useful discovery, there were more pressing matters at present. Pitch gaze eventually cast out across the terrain that lay before them. You would think a pink jackal would have been easy to spot amongst all that yellow. Oh.. I'm not trying to find somewhere...

The generous offer drew an exasperated look back to the female beside him, admitting with a sigh. I used to have a jackal for that.. you see, I seem to have misplaced my assistant who also happens to be my navigator. I don't suppose you've seen a tiny pink one running by here recently have you?

Pale lilac eyes couldn't miss the stare he gave her and she felt her cheeks heat up even further. Flustered beyond belief she could only blink back like a dear caught in headlights. Slender head turned to track him as he padded forwards, something that was a great relief to the young leopardess as the sun sparking off his pale coat quit dazzling her so badly. Able to stop squinting she gazed at him shyly, fascinated by the bag about his neck from which he had pulled... grass?

Realizing he was offering them she inched forwards timidly, slim muzzle stretching out to accept the offering. "Ahh... thank you.." Her soft voice returned, the delicate tones as embarrassed as her expression. Unexpectedly, as she moved to take the reeds, their whiskers touched and she jumped, her whole body twitching skittishly even as her face heated up all over again. Thankfully, once she had pulled away, she realised she held the reeds tight in her maw for all that she hadn't been paying attention and on his advice carefully drew them into her mouth and chewed. The sweet, cool taste of water was a surprise despite his comment, but one that was all too welcome on this hideously hot day.

"Mankouumerrymuff!" She rushed before pausing and giving him an apologetically embarrassed look, ears twitching to press low against her skull. God she sounded like such a moron... he would leave just to get away from her crazy self. Without his practice at 'reed-talking' she simply didn't dare try it herself, especially with a mouthful of half-chewed reed. That really wouldn't be a very pretty sight now would it? Hoping he understood her gratitude despite her failed attempt at communicating it, she watched him as he scanned the horizon. Without his dark eyes on her she allowed herself to look, to really see him and she felt the blush returning to her face. With his bag and his feather, he looked like someone very important. He had to be a very busy leopard.. and here he was wasting his time and reed-things on her.

Flustered by the thought she pricked her ears, not wanting to miss anything he said and make herself any more of a burden than she had already been to him. Shaking her head slowly at his question she continued to chew on his reeds, enjoying the coolness of them. She was a little stuck, unwilling to speak with her mouth full, but equally unwilling to spit them out and waste the gift he had granted her. Turning she looked out at the wide open plain with its shimmering heat waves. She hadn't really been paying attention while she rested here, more concerned with the heat that watching for tiny pink jackals... but she had a nose on her and she was a pretty decent huntress... surely together they could find the trail of the hansom leopard's friend?

Peering into the bright sunlight she realised that would mean going out there and baking in her hide. But she couldn't very well not help this kind stranger. Dropping her gaze to the ground she eyed the dusty surface. She needed to set the reed down so she could speak but she didn't want it to get all gritty and nasty for when she picked it back up.
