Can I post now?

I think this is a wonderful idea. I think the terms should be not as long though because gaia life isn't very long (if you get what I mean) it would allow others to be involved in the government and then we don't have to have a rule about how many times different individuals can be elected.

Personally, I think we should just pick a few really active people who are interested in livening things up (like Phe) to be mods. Have a set number, I'm not picky about what that number is, but I prefer an odd number from past experiences. They are now mods.

If one of the mods were to stop being active for, say, a month or two with no warning. (I.E. didn't say hey guys I'm leaving the country for the summer. See you in September. Or something like that.) The other mods can get together and decide if that person should stay a mod, or be replace by someone more active.

That way we wouldn't run the risk of changing mods ever few months because new people wanted to run for the offices and such.

I also think that if it is decided to have elections with terms, etc, that 1 year is too long. People tend to fade in and out and 1 year is a long time. Anything can happen in a year. 3 months or so would probably be more appropriate.

I was thinking 3 months too. That way it would also help activity with in the guild if members were apart of it. Also I don't think people should nomitate themselves but be nomited by guild members. (just a thought)

Some very good points.

First off I think we need to define the role of the government. My thoughts on this where more along the lines of what d_m was saying. I was thinking we would elect this members, and then they would keep there spot for a yr or so until the next formal election.

However, you both bring up good points and the longevity of people on Gaia and how we all at some point have fazed in and out of Gaia through the course of a year. Here we have a few issues. 1) How active will a person stay in the year? 2) What if other more active members come and want to contribute to the Gov.

I think to get around the activeness of a person we can sate in the constitution that if a person disappears for x amount of time with out word there gov. term will be passed on to another. As for members with new ideas to contribute, they can give there ideas just as easily with out being a crew member. But I do understand the concern of having such a long time period for the gov. However do we really want to be having elections ever few months? I was think 6th months might work. In truth it really depend on the people elected.

I like the idea of nominating people, however I think there is a lot to be said about people stepping up and showing an interest in running for office them self too.

I agree with you

Like someone might not want to do it, although they should always have the right to say, hey dude um i dont want to.

But what if someone doesnt step up?

I sort of agree, but there are plusses and minusses to this.

Taking longer means there is more time to get together the funds for the next lotto. On the other hand, the longer it takes the harder it can be to keep people interested. At the best of times the lottos degenerate into random icon posting. However the length of the lotto contributes to that because there are so many pages to go through. Maybe if it were shorter people would see more progress towards the end and worry a little less about getting through the pages.

*shrug* I dunno. I always try to converse if there are other people around.

Maybe we could set a standard length for the lotto with a standard cut-off page. You could still vary which post on which page will win prizes, but that way each lotto would take about the same length of time.

Perhaps there should be different terms for different positions. Like the Teasurer would have a 6 month period with someone elected who was quite stable for that job while other positions would be done every 3 months but the second election would always land on the one with the 6month period as well.

I have a meeting with a group every 3 months and it seems to take forever to get to and they way Gaia life is I think it would be appropiate.

I dont know, it could get hectic but people get busy and stuff.

I LOVE the idea of themed lottos THAT is awsome.

Could have a western theme.

but they couldnt be long like that.

I donno stability is good... i totally agree with that but my only thing is that it'd be responsable of the people incharge to pass that onto someoen else the second they realize they'll be out of action for a while but usually those things dont happen until it's already happened, so ... that's a difficult thing to solve.

I LOVE the theme idea. If we are going to do it that way we only need to have an election whenever someone leaves Gaia or goes on a trip or something, or doesn't want to do it anymore.
