I could be looking to much into this so someone correct me if I'm wrong. Could the FF X and FF X-2 story line be an allegory for the transition from Hinduism to Buddhism?

I've never played FFX (Though I want to!) But I remember once I looked over the wiki page for "Gnosticism in popular culture/video games" once and that game was under there. So I would assume it does have strong spiritual ties to something.
Some FF games have very spiritual over/undertones. Just look at the idea of Lifestream in FF7. 3nodding

I pick up on the Christian/Gnostic symbolism in FF X/X-2 but it seems to be more flairs and Japan's obsession with anything Western to make it seem mystical than anything. While Aeons are a Christian/Gnostic Concept, they are treated more like Devas in my very simplistic understanding of Vedic religions. The "cycle of defeating Sin" seems closer to a Vedic concept I remember learning about but unfortunately have forgotten about and how Buddhism gets around this cycle altogether.

Like I said I could be looking at more that what is actually there but I thought I toss this out there and see if I am actually picking up something.

huh. That's interesting. Still sounds like an intriguing/awesome game, no matter what the source. =P
I hope you find your answer, though.

I've beaten both games. Human sacrifice to defeat sin? It doesn't strike me as Buddhist. Unless you count that the souls of the dead will be "reincarnated" as monsters... Not sure about Hinduism.

I see the human sacrifices to Sin as an allegory of the needless sacrifices to the Vedic gods that were done prior to Buddhism.

No. I mean the sacrifice of the summoners is supposed to allegorically represent the great sacrifices the followers of other Vedic religions. Buddhism's stance (from what I understand of it) regarding sacrifices to the Vedic Gods is that it's pointless since they (the sacrifices to these Gods) don't break you out of the Karmic Cycle. I think the name Sin is just the Japanese adding western words and symbolism to make their game seem mysterious and "cool" to their Japanese gaming audience. Kinda like how companies will misuse Asian symbolism and words over here in the US to generate a "cool and mysterious" effect.
