Quote: KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- The government has allayed fears that Nibiru or Planet X is on a collision course with the Earth in 2012. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili said the National Space Agency worked closely with international space agencies such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) with regard to such claim. "According to Nasa, there is no evidence of Nibiru's existence in its space observatory. So far, none of the identified space objects pose any direct threat to Earth." "If the planet (Nibiru) exists, it can be seen with the naked eye and astronomers would have certainly monitored the object," he said in reply to Senator Datuk Shamsudin Mehat at the Dewan Negara sitting here today. The claim that Nibiru would collide with Earth was first mentioned in 1995, but became a hot topic of discussion among the public, especially via the Internet, since last year. The Nibiru collision is a supposed disastrous encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object (either a collision or a near miss). The idea was first proposed in 1995 by Nancy Lieder, founder of the website Zeta Talk, who described herself as a contactee with the ability to receive messages from extra-terrestrials. -- BERNAMA ❝All this while, I have never trusted the government. But I think in this case, I trust them.❞

I still can't help but notice the similarities between Nibiru and the hypothetical planet Tyche.
That said, I wouldn't put all my faith in what NASA says. If there really was an imminent threat to humanity do you think they would come right out and say it unless there was something we could actually do about it?
I've also seen it said that NASA stands for "Never A Straight Answer." Take that as you will.

Well the ending of Knowing would be exactly what the government does. "Oh! By the way people; time to go into your bunkers if you made them. Sorry we forgot to tell you to make bunkers in the first place!"

I trust NASA on this one. There are many other astronomers out there. If they saw something, they would have told everyone by now. It's not as if they could make ALL of them keep quiet, right?

I don't really think they're lying about this, but I'm always a little suspicious of anything NASA puts out.

It's not as if they could make ALL of them keep quiet, right? Well, there are ways these people could get these things out. But you'd be surprised how much America's government can filter. It's ridiculous. Even if they tried via radio, TV, etc. it would be nearly impossible to override the filtering system. And if it did get through, America would just lie about it, yet again.

Same I trust NASA on this one and the fact that a planet, can't just zoom in that quickly on that date,or that we'll be able to to see the closer we come to 2012.

If there was a planet on a crash course to Earth, we could see it with the naked eye.
I mean, if you know your astronomy, you can actually point out Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Mercury (iirc, and perhaps others?) with the naked eye.
If there was a planet that was going to crash into ours within a year hence, it would have been visible for quite some time, I would think. Or, it would certainly be visible by now. I mean, I'm no expert on astronomical mathematics or planet velocity, but I don't think a planet could traverse from being beyond sight by the naked eye in the night sky, to crashing into our planet in the span of time between now and 2012.
Unless the people talking about this Nibiru-collision theory are proposing that this planet is hauling a** on a solar-system spanning level, which I would think is even less plausible than the "plain" theory of Nibiru's collision.

Azkeel Exactly! That's why there is a bunch of "Wackos" stating there is another planet. That depends. Are these "wackos" astronomers or just believers using a telescope in their mother's backyard?
@tttavian1: You make a good point there.

I remember seeing something about the idea that Nibiru is approaching from behind the sun. That would require a complicated orbit I would think, but it's another facet of the whole thing I guess.

Don't any of you think it'd be creepy if NASA was hiding Nibiru from the world's eyes with the satelites that might make project blue beam.If....I doubt its true though :u

There is NO way a planet or even a planetoid would not be seen by everybody if it were to hit us this year. Or come close enough to do what is said to be its results. No angle it can come from, no course it could take. There would be no way to hide it.
