Viveca's platformed boots echoed loudly in the hallway of the Demon dormitory (probably because she was all but cantering down the hall). She screeched to a halt, pulling her head back a little as she reached, and almost passed, her assigned room.

"Hey, hey! Down here!" she called to Victor, who was trailing (far) behind her, dragging her large blue and black wheeled suitcase.

WELL. If ye' helped, ma'am... he muttered to himself.

"What?," Viveca asked, hearing a defiant squeak.

Nuffin.

The demon threw open the door, a little more forcefully than she anticipated, mostly due to the high levels of caffeine intake, but also from the excitement of it all.

"Freedom!" she called, looking satisfied a the dorm.

Ye' have ta do the work too, ma'am, Victor tried to reminded her.

"Blah blah. You sound like you're being responsible. If I wanted someone to nag me, I'd have stayed at home." She pointed to one corner. "Oh! There's where you can set up my loft bed!"

ME??

Sin was mildly annoyed at the muffled thudding she heard in the hall, what had someone bought a prize steed to ride around on? Except she knew that was less likely then...a new student. A new demon student which of course meant she was obligated to investigate. Sin didn't like being caught unaware and she had thrown a lavish party just to get a chance to meet other demons. So this new students wasn't about to slip under the radar without her getting a chance to judge, a little. She ran her brush through her hair a few times and brushed her dress down with a critical glance in her vanity. She always aimed for the type of flawlessness her mother seemed to have down to an art. Tragically Sin was young and hardly without flaws, but she could try, and try she did.

She slipped out of her suite and glanced up and down the hall following the sounds of excitement. Freedom! The shout almost startled her before her lips slowly curved. She had felt like that her first day, but she hadn't shouted...at least not out loud. Sin walked up to the door and gave it a quick rap with her knuckles, a courtesy knock her mother called it.

Viveca looked up sharply, her large eyes looking even more horse-like, save for the red irises. The sight that greeted her made her feel slightly self conscious (which was absolutely ridiculous! Her race was KNOWN for being the most beautiful of horses). But this ghoul...she seemed to have a flawless beauty about her face, and it made Viveca briefly consider what makeup could do for her angular features. But what did a horse need with makeup??

It took her a fraction of a second to realize not only was she staring, but her mouth had formed a very tiny o.

"Oh, hello!" she said, trying very hard to keep the neigh out of her voice. She had been told that her voice sounded low and 'hoarse', but she never knew if she was being mocked when it was said.

She heard a high, tinkling crash sound.

"OH NO!" She scrambled across the room, as Victor had started to unload the contents of a second wheeled suitcase, all over the bed. "You're not supposed to touch thooooossee!" A blue teacup, with interlocking gears lay on the floor, the handle broken off.

"Er...Um..." she tugged nervously at her hat. "I'm Viveca!" the demon said, trying to regain composure in front of this obviously 'cool' demon. "I'm new!"

As if that wasn't painfully obvious.

Sin was a bit surprised at first, how many horsey students was she going to come into contact with. She thought of Calder and then eyed Viveca again critically for a moment. She was a demon? Well doubting the authenticity of other races had gotten her into trouble before, with Julian first and then Rosc. She wasn't about to hit a third strike, so she just smiled and ignored the wide eyes and the floundering fish like shape of the other ghouls mouth.

She flinched as she heard the crash and then frowned at the broken teacup. "I'm Sin, Sin Err. It's nice to meet you Viveca...I don't suppose you could use a hand?" What had compelled her to volunteer for manual labor? Perhaps she just disliked seeing another demon looking so nervous, frazzled, and really that mini wasn't gonna be able to move her in alone. Plus helping her unpack could glean useful information about the other ghoul.

By the time Sin had come into the room, Viveca (or rather, Victor) had managed to get all but her loft bed into the dorm. The loft, which was in several pieces, sat at the far end of the hall. She was a little surprised by the offer (and moderately pleased, perhaps she hadn't made as bad as a first impression as she thought?).

"It's nice to meet you, Sin!" She said genuinely. "And..." She glanced at the other demon's perfect fingernails, and felt the twinge of embarrassment again. Viveca put her hands behind her back and desperately tried to get out some of the gear grease she knew was under her fingernails. "That would be great, if you really want to. Victor's," she motioned to the small pet that was now dragging a plank of wood into the room. "Moderately competent with a screw driver, so he could handle the bed. And then I can unpack my bags without his interference."

And her teacups should remain intact now!

"I wouldn't mind helping you unpack, I know it can be a challenge to get everything just so." She flashed her a smile and looked around examining Viveca's room with an appraising eye. "You have a nice space to work with, some of the dorms are positively cramped." She made a slow circle and then turned back to the other ghoul.

"So Vivi...oh you don't mind if I call you Vivi do you? Viveca is lovely but I end up nicknaming almost all my friends." Morrigan had become Morri in her mind, Alcyone had become Alcie, Rosc...was Raven in her secret thoughts if not outloud.

She watched as the lepus hauled things about, why did it seem so many minipets were useful except her own? Pantaloons and Ladyluv were just troublemakers. Wretched little troublemakers!

"No...Vivi is just fine..." she responded, although a little hesitantly. Her parent's friends had persisted in calling her "Viv", which had always bothered her, since it sounded so short and choppy and...well just plain awful, really. But she couldn't upset mummy and daddy's friends (because then mummy and daddy might not give her everything her little equine heart desired...).

"Is Sin short for anything?" she asked curiously. If the ghoul liked to shorten other people's names, had she shortened her own?

Viveca slid an unopened suitcase towards Sin. This one, like the one Victor had gotten into contained cups. These, however, were espresso cups, which were quite a bit smaller than tea cups (and so contained at least twice as many, all meticulously packaged in tissue, and some specialer ones in small boxes). A third suitcase among the mess contained her equipment for making the much loved caffeinated drinks.

She started to lay out a tea service on a small table next to her large wardrobe, and then carefully put down a thick fluffy towel under a silk sheet in the bottom drawers of the wardrobe, and started to put the tea cups away.

"It probably is, but I don't know, my parents won't disclose my actual name to me until I graduate. They said it's to keep me safe, as if they think I can't keep my own full name a secret. Still it's the only name I know so it does the trick and I wasn't deprived of my surname so I ought to be grateful." Sin opened the suitecase and carefully started to take the cups out before noticing a pattern. Her brow slowly raised as she saw the other ghoul putting teacups in the wardrobe.

"So...where did you plan to put your clothes?" She asked curiously, clearly Vivi had a love for these cups and such. Sin examined one carefully trying to figure out what made it so special. Maybe she was just a collector, she set the cup on the bed and continued to unpack surprised to find the whole thing was just espresso cups. Okay what was the trick here? Where were the clothes, the makeup, the pictures? No posters for the walls, no fancy trinkets to decorate with? Maybe the cups were the decor...talk about quirks.

"Oh." It seemed strange to her to keep someone's name from them. She wondered what they thought they were protecting their daughter from. Well. Sin seemed to be older than herself, so maybe she'd get to see her graduate and find out what the big secret was.

"I'm only putting the cups in the bottom drawers," she answered, standing up and pulling open the large doors of the wardrobe. "There's still lots of space here for my clothes." She had finished putting away the cups in her suitcase, but instead of moving onto the ones Sin had laid out, opened up a third large bag. This one actually contained items besides her caffeine paraphernalia. Layers of skirts and corsets, with one single band poster, 2 pictures (one of herself with her mother and one of herself with her father) and multiple books on physical engineering and machine building filled this one, as well as a pouch which contained single, old hairbrush and miscellaneous necessities, like her toothbrush and shampoo (Mane n'Tail brand).

Her clothes were mostly all in the same vein as what she had one. Blues, blacks and browns, some of the corsets with odd pictures on them, some without. She did own a few colored outfits, one a deep blood red (her mother's favorite color) and one the color of gold (her father's). These were for "special" occasions, most often used when trying to curry favor with one parent.

Viveca started to hang the skirts up. The last unopened bag was a medium sized duffel bag, which she had left purposefully to see how Sin might react to the contents.

Inside was a variety of tools, gears and odds and ends, that she used for her building projects. The tools were in pristine condition, but her materials were all salvaged, so tended to be a bit grimy.

"So you collect cups?" Sin really couldn't fathom any other reason to have so many, unless Vivi secretly wanted to host HalloweenTown's largest tea party. Stranger goals had been set down she supposed, but she smiled when she saw the clothes. Ahh fashion was more on a relative level for Sin and she examined the skirts and corsets that Vivi hung up and put away. Her fingers lightly skimmed the pictures and she smiled. Funny how despite the freedom Vivi seemed to have found she still had pictures of her parents. Sin also had a portrait of her parents in her room, and of course her mother spoke with her every chance she got.

She turned her gaze to the duffel bag and poked inside for a moment before withdrawing her hand. She wasn't about to rifle around in there and chip a nail, she didn't even think the bag ought to be on the bed. "So...you...like to...tinker?" Tinkering was the best word she could use to describe the parts she had seen. Then she glanced at some of the books and back at the parts. "Or...engineer stuff?" Stuff, yeah stuff with cogs and wheels and things Sin didn't know anything about.

"Hm...well, I guess sort of," she responded, pursing her lips a bit. "I mean, I use mostly all of them...So that might defeat the purpose of a collection." As far as she knew, most people who collected things just let them sit on a shelf and gather dust. "I like to drink," she thought a moment. "I mean. Drink tea and coffee and stuff," she qualified. "And so my family just sorta...started buying me cups and things for my 'habit'. For whatever occasion that came up, and I never really told them I had enough. Besides, each new cup or set is always fun! They're like...cards or something. Only less sentimental."

Her eyes briefly lighted on the separate photos of her parents that Sin had unpacked. "If they ever came here and I didn't have a picture of them up, they'd cut me off." It was a bit of an exaggeration, but she enjoyed many perks of playing one parent against the other, and she didn't intend to get sloppy while here at school.

The corners of her mouth tugged into a tiny smile. Much like her family at home, Sin didn't want to touch her gross, greasy gears. Well, she didn't expect much more. "Engineering, yeah," Viveca nodded. "I like to build machines, where a series of actions accomplish a task."

She paused. "It's a lot of effort to, say, crack an egg or flip a switch, but really, building it is half the fun!"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 07, 2011 3:02 pm

"Ahh I see, yes I suppose it's a more functional collection then." She would have to keep it in mind, if she wanted to get on Vivi's good side to invite her out for coffee or give her a tea set or special mug. Sin always filed away important facts such as these, it was a habit her parents had drilled into her at a young age. That was the demon world she lived in after all you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

She laughed and set the pictures of Vivi's parents to one side, pictures were personal she didn't want to place them where Vivi wouldn't want. "I know how that is, I keep my room the way mother would want to see it even though I know she won't be visiting. She and father agreed to step back and let me enjoy school without them hovering. Of course she does still call and eee!mail me all the time."

Sin picked up one of the engineering books and flipped through it with a mild sense of curiosity before setting it with the rest. "It looks interesting enough...but I'm not terribly mechanically inclined."

"Mmm," Viveca replied, as she flipped through one of her engineering books. "Haven't met anyone else who is either," she said, shrugging and tossing it into a pile. "Mum and Dad's friends thought I was a bit of an oddity, I gathered. But they didn't have any kids, so they thought maybe it'd just be a 'phase', and my parents convinced them that kids can just be 'quirky'.

She laughed. "I guess quirky is a good work for abnormal."

Victor had finished assembling the loft, so Viveca stood up and started to pile what little school supplies she had onto the desk below the bed.

Her mum would like Sin, she decided. Very proper sort of demoness. Her mom loved clothes shopping too, and it seemed to her Sin might. Viveca's own mother had grown exasperated when taking her out to get manicures, only to have them ruined within 10 minutes of being home.

"What kind of things are you inclined to?" she asked merrily.

"I'm sure your bound to run into someone around here who is, there's a very nice igor boil around, Christof, he likes to assist demons perhaps he would like that sort of thing. Helping you with mechanical...engineering...stuff." Yes that sounded right up the alley that Sin never traveled. The most use she would ever get out of an igor was probably as a servant to carry her numerous purchases or fetch refreshments.

Sin gave a wry smile, quirky, yes that was Viveca alright, but not as bad as she thought. She was a bit more gritty then Sin was used to but she seemed honest...and friendly. "If you enjoy doing it then all you have to worry about is making sure you're so important no one will dare question your...quirks." She grinned at the other ghoul.

"Me? Oh I love to shop, plan events, Fearleading is my passion. I bake too...though I'm not exactly an expert at it. At home I used to spar with my father but here I usually just work out alone." Sin studied too, but she didn't say that it always sounded so...nerdy.
