Iaeratu stared at the pelt by her feet, careful to make sure that there was no meat clinging to the pelt anymore that might attract bugs or begin to rot. The hare skin was the remains of her food which she had carefully eaten so as to not damage the pelt. Small it might have been, but every small piece counted when someone was cold or sick. She stretched, her claws digging into the dirt of her den. It was small, and probably considered to be 'cramped' but she spent so little time in the den, she didn't care if it was tiny or not. She only went back to sleep, or eat when she wanted some peace and quiet. The other hunters had been out that morning, and the noise of multiple kills had scared away most of the big prey, so she had been left with only hares to hunt. She'd caught a few for others, and one for herself.

Stifling a yawn, the lioness pushed herself to her feet and carefully tucked the pelt into the corner of her den, where multiple pelts were similarly stored. She rarely used them for herself, since she was not cold at night and she hadn't gotten sick since she was younger.

Stepping out of her den, she glanced around and set off back towards the hunting grounds. She could still get in a few good hours of hunting before she got tired and needed to rest. Perhaps the others had left, so she could finally get some good hunting in. She perked up at that thought, and a small smile played on her mouth as she moved gracefully towards the hunting grounds.

Slipping off to the hunting ground was a bit more difficult now that he was Ligi, but it was still quite doable. The young, former Tama lord, padded through the brush with all the stealth his lifetime of training could give him. He was not sure he was much of a hunter, but he did know he could handle helping with prey. And, maybe, just maybe, if he were super amazingly lucky, then maybe he might run into her again. Kayin felt his skin warm beneath his fur, and shook himself briskly before being surprised, as he sometimes still was, by the mane flipping across his eyes. He really was practically an adult now, wasn’t he? Full of the responsibility of living up to everything mother had trained them for.

Call it a patrol then. A solo patrol. He didn’t want to be a Ligi, but it was necessary. And, though it hurt to think he might have lost chances at friends, his duty came first. That he had a friend meant all the world to him now. Kafele was wonderful, he might have been the Shatkona’s heir, or one of them, but Kayin was a Ligi. How would it be fair to judge by blood? If he were being honest, he’d confess that he had no blood to Indira. But she was his mother, and he loved her more than anything else. Or at least, he had been unwaveringly confident in that until a rather interesting hunting trip. He still loved his mother above all else, and then his brothers and Kafele. But where did he fit his feelings for her into all of this? It was terribly confusing really. Added to coping with his new Ligi-hood and…well…

…oh. Oh no. She would surely hate him if she knew. Kayin paused midstep, his flutter of excitement upon spotting her white fur with its blue stripe and soft spotted markings cringing into dismay. He didn’t want to lie to her! But what could he say? If she asked… what should he do? Maybe she wouldn’t ask. Kayin gulped anxiously, maybe she would just be happy to have him to help her again. Maybe she wouldn’t bother to ask him questions. Maybe. Maybe…

“Iaeratu , good evening,” he called, softening his voice in case she was already on the hunt. Quickly he caught up to her, smiling because in spite of his worries he was happy to see her again. “On a hunting trip? May I accompany you as I did before?” he asked hopefully. Maybe she wouldn’t ask him… please don’t ask about the new Ligi…

Iaeratu couldn’t help the smile that bloomed across her face at the familiar voice, peering back behind her to see him approach. “Good evening, Lord Kayin,” she murmured to him in greeting, her voice naturally quiet since she was preparing for a hunt, though she was not hunting yet.

Ah, yes, I am going to hunt,” she agreed. “Of course you may accompany me. You were of some help last time.” Not great help, but he had provided company and if she was honest, it was his company she sought, rather than his skills in hunting.

A frown worked it’s way across her face, her annoyance obvious. “Since there are new Ligi’s, more people are cautious of even leaving their dens!” She knew she was perhaps speaking too freely, but Kayin knew her views on the ligi. She’d even complained about the Ligi, to a Ligi, and had gotten away with it. Perhaps it was luck, but Iaeratu didn’t think Kayin would cause trouble for her because of her comments.
