Three eggs sat on the dark wood desk. The fourth had been sent off with the other party responsible for the clutch of eggs. The young girl stared at them hand on her chin, debating when to deliver them. She brought her hair back in a low ponytail, pulling at the plain shirt that hung loosely from her frame. She rolled up her jean so that they wouldn't touch the floor.
She knew what she wanted to do with the eggs, it was just the matter of seeing the person that made her feel awkward. It felt like she hadn't seen him in forever, which upset her more than the thought of going to see him now. It was more that she was troubled that he would see her in this sleep deprived state. Visible bags hung under her eyes, which seemed darkened and cold. But she persisted, no more hiding in the confines of her room. She rose slowly, taking an egg in hand and took the short trip to Mau's room.
She hesitated for a moment, smoothing out her shirt before knocking on his door.

From the other side of the door, Mau's voice could be heard. He was giving commands to something. But when he heard the knock, and distinctly the words "Sit" and "Stay" were issued, it was obvious he wasn't talking a person. There was a very loud jingling noise as he approached the door. When he opened the door, a very loud silver chingling was in his hand, dangling from the white and black rope coming from the top of it. The pokemon's face was painted like a kabuki mask, and it was struggling, protesting loudly at being held in such an un-warrior fashion. Behind Mau, Ire was sitting, staring intently at the chingling. Mau just looked tired.
"Oh, Cal. It's good to see you again. Do you want to come in?" he offered, pushing the door open slightly for her, and holding Uta, the chingling away from the door.

Cal looked over the curious scene. First that thing protesting in his hand, then to Ire behind him. She thought for a moment, shifting her weight from one foot to the other before deciding it was probably best to go inside. She smiled, nodding to him. "Thank you." She brushed past him, smiling at Ire and wondering if they had been going through drills.
She cradled the egg close to her, thinking of what exactly to say to give it to him. She hadn't planned to stay long, so it would be best to get it over with before things got awkward. Yet, she smiled at the familiar sights that she had missed while she sat up in her room.

Mau closed the door and as Cal came further into the room, Ire sidestepped her, giving the unfamiliar human room to pass and not touch her. Mau walked over to the nightstand, still holding the chingling, and picked up a pokeball. "Uta." In a flash of light, the pokemon was gone. Mau shrank the ball and slipped it into his pocket for now. "Ire, ok." With that, the jolteon was free to to go hide in the plants again.
"So what brings you here?" Mau asked as Ire shuffled about in the berry plants so she could be hidden and still watch.

She watched as the strange Chingling was put away and Ire disappear into the berry plants. It reminded her of the fat 'Chu that demolished his Cheri plants. They were pretty much alone now. Cal looked Mau over for a second before loosening her grip on the egg. "I've come to give you this." She stated in an even tone, "I thought you might enjoy an, um..." She didn't want to say which pokemon she believed it contained or the parents of said egg. "A bundle of joy." Hopefully it wouldn't be a hellion.
She smiled, offsetting the dark circles around her eyes.

"Wasn't this from one of the batches that just came from the lab?" He inquired, a little dubiously. "Well, if this bundle of joy is easier to train that chingling of mine, then..." He was still hesitant to take it.

Had she been found out? Cal cleared her throat. "Yes..." She averted her eyes from his to the egg. "And it all depends on how you raise it. I'm sure it will be a cinch to train it." She offered the egg to him, "Let's just say it's my gift to you for being such a wonderful...." She paused. She couldn't bring herself to say father. "F-friend."
There was another slight pause before she snapped out of her thoughts. She let a smile brighten her face once more to ward off harmful thoughts.

Mau smiled faintly at her before reaching over and gently ruffling her hair. "Sure. I suppose I can raise it." He smirked slightly. "And show you how a pikachu is supposed to be raised. Not gorging on berries." He had to tease her about that.

She furrowed her brow, shooing his hand from her hair. Her face heated out of embarrassment and slight frustration. "I'll have you know that now he's doing better." It was true, ever since he had evolved he was more mellow. Still fat, but mellow. And with the addition of the eggs one would think that Skye was trying to become the perfect role model.
Cal straightened out her hair, "We'll have to put your training methods to the test old timer." She stuck out her tongue childishly, a little shocked that she was feeling better than she had before.

"You whippersnappers could learn a thing or too from a geezer like me." He retorted, not missing a beat. "No respect, that's what we get. From you youngens and your pokemon. Now get off my lawn." It was pretty hard to keep a straight face while he was saying this, and after a moment, he just let out a chuckle. "I'm glad he's doing better. Is there anything else you need?"

Cal couldn't help but laugh. "You're too convincing Mau!" Tears were brought to her eyes as she held the egg to her abdomen as if she were to burst at the seams. Once she had calmed herself, enough to register Mau's question, her face turned sad for a moment. She sat the egg down on his bed, face changing once more to serious, from the previous matter.
She hesitated for a second, "Well..." She drew closer to him. "I really wanted a hug, but no one was there. So you'll have to do." She held her arms out wide like a child in front of him, "May I?" She gave him a small smile.

From somewhere in the plants, there was a faint squeak from the jolteon, as if saying 'don't do it, Master! It's a trap!' But that was silly. Mau just laughed and stepped closer before wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "I don't see why not. Now you make sure you get some sleep tonight, ok? You look like hell."

The squeak from the plants went ignored by Cal. Her arms wrapped around him as she enjoyed the embrace. "Thanks for the compliment." She laughed into his chest. "I'll try to get some sleep..." She really meant that she would try, but that wasn't the issue. "Hopefully my egg will hatch soon and it'll all work out." It was more as if she was talking to herself than Mau.
She held on to him as long as she could without making the situation awkward. It took her great mental strength to release him. Cal turned to the berry plants to eye the pokemon that sounded like a squeak toy. She turned back to Mau, a dazed look in her eyes. "I think I'll try to work on that thing called sleep now." She smiled, "Thank you for accepting the egg." She waved a hand in its direction. "Don't abuse it, Skye will come after you."

Cal's comment didn't amuse him... at all. Like he'd abuse his own pokemon. Though if Skye came after him or his research again... Then again, Skye wasn't his pokemon, there for, it was free game.
"Good night, Cal." He said, ushering her out the door.
