It was Saturday morning. Sam expected to be at home, eating cereal and watching cartoons on the couch. Instead he had been dragged out by his mother. Mrs. Colt was catering a small symposium at the university; Mr. Colt was out of town on a business trip and his wife didn't feel right about leaving their son all alone, at home, for the day. So she took the boy with her, expecting him to behave himself while she set up trays upon trays of delicious treats: salted crackers with cheese, small cold cut sandwiches, and dozens of cookies. Which is exactly how the young boy came to be sitting on the steps outside one of DCU's auditoriums.

He had spent the last half hour watching his mother and her assistant carry trays of food from the van inside. Sam kept himself occupied by devouring a plate of monster cookies, and watching the odd person or two walk by. He contemplated going inside to watch his mother finish setting the tables, but it was just so nice outside. The weather was sunny and unseasonably warm around campus. It was so warm that Sam had taken off his coat and was using it as a picnic blanket. After the strange winter Destiny City had, Sam was more than happy to bask in the sun and eat cookies. It was such a nice day after all.

"Is this th'place?"

"Yes... they've been seen all around this area lately..."

"Alright... jus' stay outta sight fer now, I'll let ya out when it's time t'start beatin' monsters up!"

Fortunate for the pair, their conversation couldn't be heard very easily, since the sound of a motor was obscuring the sound of their two voices. Just for sh*ts and giggles, the owner of the vehicle revved the engine one more time before shoving the head of the cat peeking out of her demin backpack. There was a muffled mew of protest, but alas, the cat was soon enough nestled in the depths of a cluttered bag.

The girl was wearing a heavy leather jacket with metal studs and still had her yellow motorcycle helmet on. Her clothing was much more boyish than anything, and given her height, it would actually be pretty easy to confuse her right now with a man. Biker clothing didn't exactly flatter the female figure.

"...god... why th'hell is th' DCU parkin' lot always so damned full..." she groaned out before finally driving herself forward so she could begin the infamous search for a parking space. She could be one of those jackass motorcyclists that parked on the sidewalk, but then she'd probably get a ticket pretty fast if she tried. No, the tomboy was stuck with the unfortunate task of weaving through the parking lot in an effort to find a parking space.

Sam could hear the loud hum of the motorcycle's engine from blocks away. If his ears could perk up like an animals, they would have. The closer the sound got, the wider his grin got. Once he saw the motorcycle turn into the parking lot, Sam watched with growing excitement. He had never seen a real motorcycle up close and personal, the closest he had ever gotten was seeing them on tv. His parents were weary about letting a kid get close enough in case he got some bright ideas, too dangerous. Never the less, Sam was keen to investigate.

He grabbed his remaining cookies, picked up his little blue coat and walked towards the rider and bike. Weaving in between cars, Sam stopped just short of their parking space. He ducked down behind a black sedan and took a tentative glance back towards the auditorium, hoping his mom was still inside. Coast clear, Sam peeked over the hood of the car and stared at the bike with wide brown eyes.

"Hey mister!"

After maybe 2-3 minutes of searching, she managed to find a parking space. However, that was only because another car pulled out just before she had passed. It was a bit lucky, sure, but she wasn't going to argue against it. Pulling into the spot, she began with the basic procedures of parking. It gave the boy plenty of time to take a look over the vehicle itself. It wasn't hard to see the vehicle had a custom paint job. A majority of the motorcycle was bright yellow, but towards the back was a pastel blend of rainbow colors.

With the heel of her boot, she flicked the kickstand down after cutting the engine. The girl then got off of the vehicle, hiking the backpack over her shoulders a bit. She was about to walk off when she managed to hear the very muffled sound of someone's voice. The words, she couldn't understand so much at the moment.

"Oh yeah..." In a well practiced manner, the girl lifted her hands to remove her helmet. As she reached to do this, her backpack began to squirm slightly. As the yellow helmet popped off, a mess of blonde hair poofed out, revealing a vaguely feminine face with a purplish brown spot over one of her golden eyes.

Said golden eyes searched for the one who had spoken up, eventually locking on the boy. "What'dya say kid?"

Every inch of the bike was examined carefully at a distance. Sam oogled the tires, the headlight, and all the pieces that made up the engine. How did it work, start and stop where did the gas go? He tired to answer these questions himself by studying the bike. His eyes lead from front to back, towards the exhaust. Bright yellow wouldn't have been his choice for a paint job, but it definitely stood out... wait. Was that a rainbow? Bleck, so girly.

Sam swallowed hard as he noticed the rider take off her helmet. Gasp! The 'mister' was a she! Luckily, she hadn't heard him call her mister. She looked safe enough, not at all like a kidnapper or vicious criminal. Walking around the car, Sam stepped into better view.

"Nothin' much. Nice bike," he playfully teased. Sam took a large bite of his cookie before speaking again. "Very scary paint." Mouth full, Sam chuckled to himself with cookie crumbs falling out. How could his parents ever think bikes were dangerous if they could look like that.

She shoved her helmet under her arm as she gave the kid a visual once over. It was hard to tell how old the kid was in all honesty, but for some reason he was already reminding her of herself. Well, minus the fact he was eating cookies. Ellie Spectre was infamous for not liking sweets.

Her tone sounded a bit harsh, but she replied "Yeah... it's a nice bike... includin' th'paint, since I did it all myself." First rule of dealing with another person's vehicle is you never say anything that could be considered an insult.

The backpack on her arm wriggled again, as if trying to remind the tall tomboy to mind her manners. Or maybe the backpack had gotten a whiff of the cookie being munched on.

Ellie shrugged as if to try to get the bag to stop wriggling. Even with how the boy seemed to forget his manners, he still reminded her of herself when she was younger. So with a gesture of the hand, she signaled he could get closer to her vehicle. "It ain't gonna bite... but keep in mind gettin' a closer look doesn't mean ya get t'touch..."

There was a slight reluctant pause before she added "Go on..."

Sam barely noticed the harsh tone in the girl's voice. "You did this?"

He took a few steps closer and looked over the bike again. Figures a girl would do a girly job; rainbows instead of flames. Still, he wouldn't admit that it was good or that he couldn't do better. He was eleven, of course he couldn't do better, he just wasn't about to say so.

The second she said he could move closer, his little face lit up and beamed. He looked back and forth from the girl to bike a few times before smiling wide at her. Staring up into her yellow eyes, gosh she was tall, his admiration grew a bit. "...Really?" He tried not to sound too excited, but the way he rushed right up to it gave him away.

Sam ran his empty hand above the bike, careful not to touch, and followed its curves. "Cooooool."

He walked around it, examining all the different bits. He mouthed the names of parts he knew, like gas tank and exhaust. Honestly, he didn't know much, the ignition was just the 'key hole' to him. The wiggling backpack made no difference to Sam, he was too enthralled by the bike to notice.

"I didn't stutter, did I?" It wasn't exactly clear which comment she was replying to, but it honestly worked in either case. She stood there, arms crossing casually as she watched the boy. It reminded her of how things usually worked when she was in elementary school and visiting Hank. Her dad would bring her along, and the two adults would talk while the shaggy haired girl would run about the place like most kids would act in a candy or toy store. Every so often, her dad's friend would cut in so she couldn't cause any damage or to explain how certain pieces worked. She was certain if this boy ever met Hank, that man would probably be just as easygoing as he had been when she was growing up.

As he made the rounds about her pride and joy, she casually asked "So ya got a name kid, or should I keep callin' ya 'kid'?" Her backpack continued to wriggle a bit. Letting out a slightly annoyed sigh, the tomboy simply up and jostled the back firmly one time, just to let the cat know she shouldn't be doing that at the moment.

Taking a pause from admiring the bike, Sam shifted his soft brown eyes onto the biker. He studied her for a moment, evaluating her. Every once in a while, Sam was warned about talking to strangers and giving away personal information. Sometimes it was just a protective warning from his parents, a cautionary tale he heard at school or on the news. He might have been young, but he knew that Destiny City was not as safe as it once was. There were monsters of all kinds lurking around.

However, the young adult in front of him gave him no reason to feel threatened. She didn't look any older then his last babysitter, and blond girl let him look at her bike! That was enough for Sam; he decided that he liked this girl.

Walking right up to her, brown eyes locking onto her yellow ones, he extended his hand for a shake, "Sam! Well... Samson, but you can call me Sam."

xxxxxIt started with a few crumbs tumbling off the bricks. Little red dots, tumbling slowly to the ground. Then some chunks. Then full bricks. Finally a horrendous sort of crunching noise as bricks formed arms and legs, and two holes for a set of strange little eyes. Nothing was on its mind. Nothing at all. It simply walked forward, crushing bushes and flowers in its path. Grass was squished into mud which oozed onto the surrounding sidewalk. Tiny pieces of brick continued to fall, leaving a strange, dilapidated path behind the rocky beast. As it walked, the monster's arm smacked a chair, causing it to halt. It stared for a moment at the chair, and at the area around it. As the monster looked around, it noticed two small forms on the ground below.

xxxxxAs quickly as it had formed, it picked up the chair and threw it at the strange figures, instantly aiming to kill. The rocks parted, forming an eerie sort of mouth, and as the wind rushed by, a great howl was heard. The bricks had now formed a strange set of teeth, like you might see on a jack-o-lantern. When it returned from its previous pose, the brick monster reach one long, extended arm out towards the smaller being, looking to crush it. Small pieces of the bricks began to fall off as they slid together, making a grinding sort of chalkboard noise. There was no thought behind it. The monster simply moved.

Okay, so this kid has some class. He already seemed to be a master of the proper greeting, being a handshake. However, the true test now was if he had a decently firm handshake for a kid or not.

"Sam, eh? Well, I go by Ellie... Ellie Spectre!" She thrust her hand into his and rather quickly took to shaking his hand, her grip much firmer than what most women would do. Her teeth were soon enough forming a large grin. "It's nice t'meet'cha Sa...."

Her rather vigorous handshake soon enough came to a hault as a chair flew in their direction. Fortunately, it landed a bit short of them (and her vehicle). That grin of her soon enough vanished. "Awwwwww... Hell nawwww!!!!" Golden eyes soon enough followed along the path the chair had flown in, finding one of those monsters the cat had told her about. Her hand still firmly gripped the child's hand, and in a very low, serious tone, she gave him directions. "Don't panic, but get outta 'ere as soon as ya can..." Her gold eyes narrowed, completely fixed on this monster. She was watching its movements carefully.

Within a moment, it shot into action, and in turn, the teen had to react as well. Its heavy arm lifted itself above her current companion, and as it began to swing down heavily, the tall girl pulled the child in towards her so that the rock fist would narrowly miss him. That simple motion, however, was enough to cause her motorcycle to topple off of its kickstand and fall on its side. If there was one way to rile the teen up, this was it.

"OH NO YOU F*CKIN' DIDN'T!!!!!!" Her backpack was pushed off her shoulders and soon enough shoved towards the kid's arms. "Take that an' run!" Obviously, not in the direction the monster was coming from. "Towards th'parkin' lot! I'll distract this motha' f*ckah!"

The backpack was now wriggling insistently. Something inside that bag just wanted attention it would seem.

One moment, Sam was shaking hands with Ellie, surprised by how tight her grip was. The next thing he knew, his short life was in danger. First a chair flew at the duo. Then he was caught in Ellie's arms, one step away from being crushed to death.

The wiggling bag was shoved into his arms and he ran off. Instincts took over, no need to tell him twice. The bag was held tight to his chest as he ran zig-zags through the parking lot. Quick, hard heart beats pounded in his chest.

"Don't panic? This is the perfect time to panic," he said to himself. Sam wasn't the type to run away from fight, but that monster was huge! He was just a kid, what could he do? Abandoning Ellie didn't feel right. What if she got hurt? He couldn't just leave her to be eaten by a monster, could he? No, not completely. Sam looked around for a safe spot to watch the action.

Struggling to keep a grip on the bag, Sam dashed behind a red Ford pick-up truck and put the bag down. What the heck was in that thing? Adrenaline coursing through his veins, the boy pulled the zipper back and peeked inside.

xxxxxIn a flash, the girl had picked up the boy, and sidestepped the chair. Now the boy was waddling off towards a big truck in the distance, while the girl was striking a fighting pose. It seemed tipping over the bike had somehow angered her. Her small, white teeth gleamed angrily as she sneered in disgust at the rock monster. The monster heaved and groaned with effort as it picked up more objects lying around, like the table that had accompanied the chair, bushes, anything it could get its makeshift hands on. Chortling with a strange sort of brick on brick noise, the monster continued to throw objects at the girl, anything to hurt her.

xxxxxBut after a delayed moment or two, the monster realized she wasn't going to be easy. If she could dodge a chair, she could probably dodge these objects. Angrily, the monster seemed to ponder for a moment or two before looking back at the truck. The other thing had been small. Crushable.

xxxxxWith slow, clunky movements, the assortment of bricks headed over towards the red car it was hiding behind. Though the being appeared to be opening a backpack, the monster could care less. It just needed something to crush. Something soft, and squishy. It picked up a bush and hurled it in the direction of the girl, attempting to block her path with debris and rubble. The monster even tried to throw its own bricks at one point, only to realize that they were rather "stuck" at the moment. Frowning angrily, it let out another one of its strange grinding howls as it moved towards the small boy.

The moment the backpack even gave a little leeway, the feline popped her head out with a large, exaggerated gasp of breath. It wasn't a very kitty-like gasp of breath, but sounded almost like a girl. Then again, there were plenty of things that seemed to stand out about this animal. Like the fact it had a silvery star marking on its forehead.

Or, perhaps the fact she then spoke.

"Oh! So you're the one who was causing my brain to itch!! Um... Sam, was it?!" Her ear flicked a bit, as if hinting that she could in fact hear plenty from the inside of the backpack. Her body wriggled a bit, trying to at least get her paws out of the backpack now.

"You should keep moving... much further than this... that girl can fend for herself..."

Speaking of fending for herself, that was exactly what Ellie was doing.

As Ellie.

There wasn't time to transform yet, with all of the things being chucked in her direction. Her body moved fine, but it wasn't the same as having magical powers boosting her movements. The only thing working to her advantage was how slow this monster was. As Sailor Iris, she had encountered slow Youma before, but even they seemed a bit more directed than this. She could feel twinges go down her spine as all sorts of other vehicles were getting assaulted with the debris. It went against everything she loved.

With the final bush getting thrown, the almost golem like creature began to move towards where she managed to see the boy run off to. With all of the stuff surrounding her, she at least now had sufficient cover to transform. "God damn it!!" She reached into her boot and pulled out a strange pen. "Iris Eternal MAKE UP!"

"Sam, Sam! Get me out of this backpack, quickly... and then follow me!!!" The cat squirmed urgently as her ears twitched at a certain monster's approach.

"Yeah... it's Sam... Colt."

....Wait.... What? A cat was talking to him. This had to be the strangest moment of his life so far. A rock monster suddenly appearing out of no where? Not so strange, considering the state of Destiny City in the last year. Terrorists were blowing things up all the time, people disappeared. Strange things happened in Destiny City, Sam was well aware of that. But... this? A talking cat!? Animals don't talk, it had to be a trick... a toy.

Sam pulled the cat out from the small back pack and turned her over once, checking for batteries. But there were no screws or switch to turn her off. No microphone or speaker either. Plus the little silver kitty knew his name, she had to be the real deal. There was no sense in arguing with the real deal.

Sam held on to her and started to dash off. He turned his head back just in time to see the bulky rock beast ambling towards him, and a yellow suited terrorist where Ellie used to be. Immediately he dropped the cat and ran off, following where ever she was leading. No time for chatter, Sam was struggling just to keep breathing and take in the situation.
