Silent as he could be, the mutated stallion stalked his prey through the thick brush of the swamp. He had followed along the path that the mare Pirata Noctis had directed him and had moved along past the sunken trunks of the trees that she had specifically remembered. Now he had thought that perhaps he had picked up the trail of the escaped mare. The hoof prints that he had found seemed sloppy, like she had tried to run too fast and hadn't paid very close attention to her footing. After years of living in this swamp, the stallion was able to move over the murky water and muddy landscape without much trouble. He had long since learned to avoid tricky sink mud traps and the dangerous creatures that inhabited the swamp. Actually, he had grown to rely on the creatures and once more he used them to his advantage. The closer to the mare he managed to get, the quieter the creatures became. They didn't like strangers, especially ones that made a lot of noise.

Supreme was tired - of course she probably wouldn't have been quite this tired if she'd watched where she was going with a keener eye - that stint in a mud pit hadn't done much for her endurance and had left her legs plastered in itchy flacking mud. No - she definitely would have done better to watch her steps...but she'd been..was..trying to escape and no matter how tired she was, how very much she wanted to just lay down and sleep..she couldn't.
Not yet. Granted her pace wasn't nearly as swift as it had been in the beginning..but the way she looked at it any sort of forward movement was progress - if only she could find her way out of her wretched swamp then she could...what exactly? Supreme shook her head - that was a question that she would answer later. After she was safe.
Breathing heavily Supreme paused, stopping to listen as she had from time to time for sounds of pursuit. So far nothing had caught her attention but she reminded herself that that could change in the blink of an eye.

The prints seemed to be fresher now. His quarry seemed to be tiring, losing her strength. He snorted at the thought. You'd think creatures would realize that conserving energy was part of the life saving process. If you simply tried to get all that distance at once it was futile. Of all the mares that he had tracked and chased, this one seemed no different, they were all the same. The thought disheartened him a little. Why couldn't he ever get a challenge? Why was it that his prey always had to be so easy to catch? Ah well, at least he could trap this one and get her back to Pirata before sunrise.
Quickly he picked up his pace and hurried on to catch up with the mare. He was close now and he could tell. It should hopefully be only a manner of minutes before he would catch sight of her.

Like before she didn't hear anything behind her for the moment - that somewhat surprised and confused her, always before Pirata had given chase by now. Half the time she'd always caught her by this point i she were being honest with herself.
But this time...nothing, nada...not a peep. She supposed that she shouldn't look a gift like that in the mouth and ought to just keep moving but her throat burned something fierce and she eyes the swampy water with trepidation. Dare she try and take a drink? It was nearly maddening to have this much water so close and to be so thirsty and not be able to drink any of it. Surely it couldn't be quite as bad as it smelled right? Lowering her muzzle she took an experimental sip and immediately started hacking as in her eagerness she inhaled more of it then she drank. It was indeed as bad tasting as it smelled.

Boi-Tatá slowed as he neared the mare. He could smell her now and he had thought for sure that she would have spooked by now, but then he realized he must be downwind from her. Slowly and very carefully he continued forward until he had her in sight. It seemed that she had stopped for water and the stallion gagged a little in disgust. Sure all the water here didn't taste great, but if you knew where to look, you could find much better then that. As it was, he had a tiny stream that went through his cave that was much better then that stuff.
Well, he supposed if she was thirsty enough he couldn't blame her, but it did seem it was her downfall. Carefully, he positioned himself into his usual routine. He managed to get an an angle where he was still hidden from view but when he allowed the light of the moon to sparkle on his eyes, they'd provide that same hypnotic glow that seemed to ensnare most mares.

Supreme shook her head a bit in an fruitless attempt to rid herself of the foul taste in her mouth before rubbing her nose on the inside of one leg to relieve an itch. It wasn't until she raised her head again that she noticed the glowing eyes peering back at her.
Glowing eyes..and more then two, Startled Supreme skittered backwards, they were a different color then the demons eyes..but that hardly registered to Supreme at the moment, all she saw were the eight unblinking eyes staring at her. "Get away from me! Leave me alone!" The terrified mare screamed at the glowing eyes before wheeling about and bolting mindlessly through some thick reeds. She should have aid more attention she scolded herself, clearly she was being pursued and stopping had only allowed them to catch up with her again.
unfortunately in her mindless flight she once again hadn't watched where she was going and while she crashed through the weeds the ground beneath her feet was making this rather disconcerting sucking sound every time she pulled up a hoof.

The stallion was taken aback by the mare's reaction to his eyes. Immediately, he began to curse himself under his breath. He should have known better, Pirata had the sames eyes that he did and she must have used some similar trick to catch this mare the first time around. It seemed that he would have to think of something new to catch this mare. A challenge, he liked that.
Regaining his bearings, the mutated stallion began to follow after the mare at a nice steady pace. With as quickly as she panicked and ran off, he doubted that she'd save much energy. As it was, he figured she must be using her reserves right now. While he waited for her to tire, he would think of a new plan, something that would surely catch her. However she was on her guard now and he'd have to be craftier then he had ever been just to catch her.

Supreme did not get very far in her panicked run before exhaustion once more caught up with her - of course it might not have been so bad if she'd choose to run along a nice table pathway instead of bolting through the weeds and having to fight her way through the muck as well. But thinking that didn't do much to help her right now - hindsight was a b***h like that. The best she could do was try and make her way to more solid footing before she really did get stuck, something that was easier said then done considering how extremely lost she was.
She wasn't even sure in which direction she had ran when she saw the eyes, she'd just...taken off, instinct overrunning any sort of thought - you'd think she would have known better by now but desperation did things to your thinking abilities. Struggling through the muck she finally managed to pull herself up onto a bluff with firmer footing and paused to scent the air, glancing behind her for any signs of pursuit.
Running madly in one direction did not seem wise and she decided to rest on the bluff until she figured out what to do next.

Carefully, he continued to pick his way through the muck of the swamp. It wasn't too hard to track the mare as she had left a rather obvious trail in her panic. Clearly she did not know the land or how to traverse it. If she wasn't careful she'd wind up getting herself stuck or hurt, and if he wasn't fast enough, he might lose her to the creatures that shared his land. Still in thought, Boi picked up his speed, mindful of his footing.
As he followed her trail, he continued to lose himself in thought. How was he going to capture her? It would be much more difficult now that he could not use his best weapon and he would need to make sure that he did not lose her once he did have her. He supposed that perhaps some rope made of the moss that hung from the trees would do, but it would need to stronger then that, vines would be better. Unfortunately the good ones were never within his reach.
He stared up into the trees, cursing how high they were. At his height, he could never reach them. Pausing to think, he looked around and spotted a large branch that had fallen. Ah! He hurried over and picked the thing up in his mouth and awkwardly maneuvered it over to the tree with the best vines. Perhaps he could reach them this way.

Supreme did not want to linger in one place to long - not only would that cost her any sort of lead she still held over her pursuers but she was pretty sure she would fall asleep if she remained still for too long. Falling asleep was a dicey prospect in the swamp, especially this close to the water - you never knew what might be lurking within the murky depths and there was a good chance you would end up as someones meal.
She had to keep moving then, she was far to tired to keep running and it would be wiser she supposed to move with a bit more caution and direction then she had before. Thankfully the moon had risen and cast a good bi of light upon the swamp, picking her steps carefully she followed the bluff and headed east in hopes of finding a way out of this accursed swamp and earning her freedom again.

With a bit of awkward maneuvering, the stallion was able to get a few good strong pieces of vines. Now he only wished that he had Nefarious with him so that the otter could tie them together for him. Oh well, he would simply have to make do. Carefully the stallion lay the pieces out onto the ground and used his mouth to move them over each other to tie them into one long, strong rope. There! Now he could bring the mare back with him, but how would he catch her? He would have to come up with something fast.
The vines had cost him a good deal of time and he realized that if he did not make up the distance he had lost, that he would lose the mare, and then what would happen with Pirata? He simply did not know, and he did not want to find out. He had to get this mare.
Quickly, the stallion put the rope over his back and made his way through the swamp as fast as he could, following the trail that the mare had left. As he made his way towards her, his mind was racing. He needed a plan and a good one. If he could get the mare stuck in the muck, perhaps he could use that as a trap? Put the rope around her, pull her up, and then she would be his. Yes, that sounded like it just might work. But how would he get her stuck? No matter, he would figure out that part once he caught sight of her again.
