Rules of BeauxBatons
Any updates to these rules will be posted in an announcement.
You are responsible for keeping up with them!

User Image

Please read carefully.
Failure to follow these rules will result in immediate detention, loss of house points, or perhaps expulsion!

All offenses will be evaluated by the crew.

General

- Follow all of Gaia’s rules in the ToS.

- To be a part of Beauxbatons, you must be a member of the guild.

- Do not create threads in the Main Forum. That area is reserved for announcements for the Crew.

- Do not impersonate any Crew member of this guild in the chat rooms or forums. Doing so will result in an automatic and permanent removal from the guild.

- Obey all instructions given to you by a Crew member, a Vice Captain, or the Captain unless they seem unreasonable. Refusal to cooperate will result in removal from the guild.

- If crew members are witnessed breaking the rules or being unfair (e.g. abusing their power, being unnaturally cruel, etc.), please do not hesitate to PM a Vice Captain and provide your evidence for it. It will be evaluated thoroughly by the Captain and the Vice Captains.

- You may advertise this guild, but do so in a civil manner. Do not harass people into joining.

- Observe all posted stickies and announcements. They are strictly focused on that particular subforum, posting important information for your use.

- If you have a question to ask about a particular subject of the guild, make sure to read the Who Do You Talk to? (Read Before PMing Crew Members!) thread to see which crew member to contact.

- You must post at least once a week. If you have not posted at all since you joined when the member removal sweep happens (every three months), the crew will remove you. If you know you will be absent, post in the Absences thread; we will always check there before removing members.

- If you are waiting to become an accepted student at Hogwarts, keep yourself from going inactive by posting in the Muggle World (OOC & Chatterbox) subforum, or anywhere else that does not require you to post as a student. You can also make a Magical Creature or a Town Storeowner; those will be accepted quicker than students. You’re also welcome to create your character’s family in Ministry of Magic & the Wizarding World (just make sure to follow the rules there).

- Check the announcements regularly. The Captain and the Vice Captains will communicate with the whole guild via Guild Announcements. Please make sure to read these and keep up with them! If you miss an announcement, you may be out of the loop.

- Times used in this forum are in the Central Standard Time or CST.

- Semesters are one month of real life time. Therefore, a whole Hogwarts year is equivalent to a two month time span in real time. The third month is used for the “summer” in the guild.

- Holidays and any special events will be announced. Each year will only have one holiday event.

- If you feel threatened, hurt, or insulted by any member of the guild, please talk to them before coming to the crew. Chances are they’re just being their character. If it doesn’t change and you know it’s more personal then feel free to PM a Crew member about it.

- Drama is unacceptable in the forums or chatroom. Take it to PMs and don’t make a big scene about it. If someone is causing you trouble and stirring up drama and will not listen to reason, please contact a Vice Captain as soon as possible so the situation can be dealt with swiftly.

- Crew members are in charge whenever Kakatary and Vampire Toy are both gone for a week or longer.

- Any issue that arises will be evaluated by the Crew along with the Captain. The Captain, however, will have the final say as to what must be done. All issues will be discussed between the Captain and the person(s) involved, unless the Captain is absent for longer than a week, in which case a Vice Captain will step in, or if the Captain asks a Vice Captain to step in.

- Please make sure to check the Room of Crystality subforum for guides and to see if anyone has asked a question that you have already. Guides are stickied and very useful!

- Users must sign these rules prior to roleplaying.

Roleplaying

- There are only two houses:
Angelus for males and Aphrodite for females.

- Unless otherwise stated, all subforums should be treated as roleplay areas.

- When you wish to talk out of character (ooc), please use a form of brackets to show others. Ex: ((Hey, I’m gonna log off now. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.)) )

- In your post, please mention what house you're in and your character name. If you are a professor, please also put in your character's name, their house, and the class they teach. Shop owners and shop assistants must put their names and the shop they own/work at. Magical creatures must state what creature they are and their names (if applicable).

- This is a Semi-Lit to Lit roleplay. This means that you must type out at least a paragraph (3 sentences minimum). Do not talk in chatspeak. Type every individual letter out. Use spell check as often as you can. Open a Word Document or Google the word to make sure it’s correct. If you are having writer’s block, feel free to say so.

- Guild members should not quote other members' posts in roleplays, as it unnecessarily lengthens threads. If you are looking to alert a member that you have replied to their post, simply send them an informative PM.

- Keep it PG-13. Try to keep cussing to a minimum. Avoid intense romance and cybering is absolutely not allowed. The only exception to the PG-13 rule is in the Hogwarts Chatroom, which is pushing more into the PG-17 rating (due to cursing, alcoholic references, bad humor, and so on). You have been warned.

- Do not make a Mary Sue (more info here). Test you character with the provided test. Stay in character. Do not godmod (Mary Sues are a form of godmodding). Godmodding is unacceptable. That means taking control of another’s character or forcing them to do something with their character without giving them a chance to post. This also includes overpowered characters, characters that never get hit, and characters who are flawless. Bottom line, in a roleplaying guild, you must respect other roleplayers. If you want to do whatever you want with your character and other characters, write a fanfiction. In this guild, all roleplayers are given an equal roleplaying opportunity.

- First-person roleplaying is not accepted in the guild (e.g. “I went towards the professor”. Using ‘I’, ‘me’, etc.). We only accept third person (e.g. “Linda walked towards the professor”). We also request that all persons post in past tense (e.g. instead of posting, "She walks to the wall", we ask that you write, "She walked to the wall").

- If you would like to have a plot for your character and/or other characters, please read and request here. Ideas will be marked as either "Accepted" or "Denied". All plot ideas must be posted there and accepted before they begin. This is to allow crew a heads-up as to what is going on. Anyone who does not post will have their plots nullified. The longer you've been with us, the cleaner your track record, the better chances you have of getting plots accepted. For guild-wide plots, please contact a Vice Captain

- If you know that you will not be able to post your character for any long period of time, always post in the Absences Thread, found in the Entrance Hall (the same page as where these rules are).

Characters

- First off, anyone who wishes to create a student character must refer to the Student Basics and Information.
Professors [x]
Magical Creatures [x]
Follow all instructions in the Basics and Information thread for the character type you’re making. Links and information are provided for your convenience.

- You must be sorted in this guild if you are a student. Please don't pick a house without first being sorted into that house. The purpose of the Sorting Hat is more of a ceremony and for others to see what house you're in. Not only that, but it helps keep track of how many students were placed into each house.

- We want original characters. Please see here for names unacceptable in our guild.
The exception to this rule are the ghosts and house-elves of Hogwarts.

- Since Beauxbatons is based in France, we expect most characters to have French names and backgrounds. All students, however, are to be born in France.

- Note that if you post a profile that does not follow all the rules it will be labeled as "Needs Editing" which you will have one week to fix your profile. If the profile is not edited by the end of one week it shall be moved to The Whomping Willow (Trash). If a profile has been edited and accepted BUT the owner of the profile changes it back to their original, unedited profile after being accepted, the profile WILL be moved to The Whomping Willow (Trash), and will be removed from the guild as a warning. Any character profile that has not updated their House after being sorted or does not go to be sorted within a week will be moved to The Whomping Willow (Trash) and will be labeled as "Inactive". More on titles here.

- Each character must only possess one More-Than-Average trait. This allows others the opportunity to have their characters become More-Than-Average.

- If your character will be using an actor/actress’ face, please see the Face-Claim List to see if someone else has already used that actor/actress. Please avoid having multiple characters with the same celebrity face.

List Of Knowledge and Classes

- Classes are based on the List of Knowledge system. The List of Knowledge is to be copy and pasted into a new post in your character's student profile. Every student must attend (be posted in) each of the lessons for every one of their classes (core classes and requested electives) in order to check off the respective boxes and receive the "knowledge" taught in that particular lesson. All boxes must be checked before graduation (year seven). Example: If Max attends all of his Charms I lessons (Wingardium Leviosa, Locomotor, Incendio, and Spongify) during his first year, he can check each of those lessons off in his List of Knowledge, and he has therefore "learned" those spells.

- Those who miss lessons and fail to receive the corresponding knowledge must re-attend that particular lesson the following year (on top of all current classes) in order to acquire all of the knowledge for each class taken (which is required for graduation). Example: If Betty misses the Incendio lesson for Charms I in her first year, she must re-attend that same lesson for Charms I during her second year, on top of all of her Charms II lessons, in order to check off the Incendio box in her student profile to show that she has acquired that particular knowledge.

- List of Knowledge boxes are not to be filled with a check-mark (in order to illustrate a student’s knowledge and attendance of that lesson) if the student did not actually attend the respective lesson. This is based on the honor system, although verification of attendance may be acquired by checking for your student's post in a classroom during a particular lesson's time-frame. All guild members are responsible for keeping their own characters' Lists of Knowledge updated and accurate. Please be honest and only check off spells if your character has attended that lesson!

- If you are active in the guild and have attended all of your classes regularly, but the professor failed to teach you each of the List of Knowledge subjects for that year, you have permission to mark those subjects as completed. Make sure that during the end of the year Professor Evaluations that are to be sent to Sir Spazalots, you mention which teachers did not teach the required material for that year.

- Every year, Professors will be subject to Professor Evaluations. This means students will be rating the performance of each professor and how well they did that year. Poor performance may result in staff removal.

- If you have not taken the first level of a class, you may not continue to the next level. For example, if you have not taken Alchemy I, you may not take Alchemy II, even if the class was not offered the year before. You still must take Alchemy I before or at the same as Alchemy II for it to be an acceptable credit.

- Third years and up can pick two electives or more, but, if they have failed to make up 8 or more lessons in their List of Knowledge, they are not allowed to take elective classes. The elective classes will not be mandatory, but, if you slack off, the professor has the right to remove you from their class.

- First years are not allowed to take electives, and only Advanced Flying I is open to second years. All other electives require students to be in their third year or up. Please see What Electives Can I Take? guide to find out what your required classes are and what elective options you have for each year.

- Most electives need three years of study. If you jump into an elective late, or it was provided late, there are only a few options you have. You could double-up on an elective, meaning, take Elective I and Elective II at the same time to catch up. This can only be done during your fourth year, because fifth year is dedicated to studying for the O.W.L. during the first month. Another option you may want to consider is taking the O.W.L. for that elective during your sixth year, but you will have to find a way to take the exam and also attend your sixth year classes. If these options don't seem to your liking, you could always attempt to take the O.W.L. early, with permission from your professor. Another option you may want to consider is taking the O.W.L. for that elective during your sixth year, but you will have to find a way to take the exam and also attend your sixth year classes. If you are not interested in taking the O.W.L. for that elective, you do not have to double-up on the elective.

- Elective professors, simply PM the Professor Manager if you have a student you would like to remove from your class. Please state the student's name, their Gaia Username, your class name, and the reason why you are removing them. Should the crewmember approve your request, the student will be removed from your class.

Chatroom

- Here is the thread for information on our chat rooms.

- Please only use usernames in Chatzy.

- The chatrooms are provided for the use of members of our guild. Non-members are welcome as long as they follow all the guild rules.

- Leave the drama out of the chatrooms. Take it to PMs and don’t make a big scene about it. If someone is causing you trouble and stirring up drama and will not listen to reason, please contact a Vice Captain as soon as possible so the situation can be dealt with swiftly. Should you argue/coerce/threaten/etc. a member of guild while in the chat or if the chatrooms are abused in any way or form, all guilty parties involved will be banned from the chatrooms.

- Beauxbatons Guild Chat is mostly for a fun chat. Content that is posted here may be inappropriate for those under the age of 17. Anyone found in the chat room that is underaged will be removed. Junior Hogwarts School chatroom is for any one. Please feel free to use it, but mind yourself. Content posted that is PG-17+ will result in a removal from the chatroom.

- Obey the Captain, Vice Captains, and Crew while in chat. Even though you are outside Gaia, they are still in charge. Do as they say without question, unless it seems unreasonable. If so, speak to a VC immediately about the situation.

- Do not impersonate any Crew member of this guild in the chat rooms or forums. Doing so will result in an automatic and permanent removal from the guild.

- Do not post any pictures of yourself in Chatzy.

- The chat should not be used to discuss other guilds (with the exception of brother/sister guilds)

School
(this is for roleplaying purposes)

- This is a roleplay guild for the school invented by J.K. Rowling. We are set in Post-Second Wizarding War times, continuing the traditions of Hogwarts in a Semi-Literate to Literate roleplaying fashion. Everything has been reconstructed and fixed at Beauxbatons and there is no more threat of the Dark Lord.

- Prefects will wander the hallways. Anyone who is causing trouble will be shooed along, may lose house points, and/or receive a detention.

- Students are rewarded points for good performance and answering questions correctly. Points are also deducted for bad behavior and breaking the rules.

- Only Professors, Prefects, and the Head Mistress have the ability to deduct house points and give detentions. If a Prefect gives out a detention, the student will be forced to attend the detention with the Caretaker.

- No student is allowed to wander the Forbidden Forest without a teacher. It is strictly forbidden!

- No student is allowed to swim freely in "The Lake".

- First years are not allowed to be flying on brooms unless in Flying class. Any person who did not get their Flying Certificate, may not be allowed to fly at any time.

- Should a student fail Flying, that student will be ineligible to play Quidditch until they pass.

- If a student would like to exempt Flying, they may request it from the Flying Instructor. They must have a valid reason. This means they will not be able to achieve their Flying Certificate and, should that be the case, they may not fly at any time in the Wizarding World.

- First and second years are not allowed in town. Students may only be allowed with parents, guardians, holiday events, during class field trips, or if they are third years.

- Under-aged witches and wizards must refrain from using magic outside of Hogwarts unless in defense. It is a violation of Beauxbatons and Ministry of Magic rules.

- Students are not allowed to Apparate onto the school grounds. The town is not technically part of Beauxbatons therefore, any student may Apparate there. A student must be seventeen to Apparate and must take the class.

- After hours starts at 11pm Central Standard Time. Not sure what time that is for you where you live? Check. Anyone caught outside of their Common Room during this time will be sent straight to their room along with a deduction of house points.

- Sixth years are required to take their sixth-year exams. This determines what courses a student will take for the final year of school. Please note that this is different than in Hogwarts, and the only test that Beauxbatons offers.

- Beauxbatons is full of surprises, so don't be surprised if one day a guild announcement claims that there is a kidnapper inside Beauxbatons.
