Ah the Spring~ It was certainly on it's way. The air's crisp texture was starting to become one of a more fresh and rejuvenated cologne. It brought back the song birds, and those silly squirrels that raced around the grounds and tree's. Yes it seemed that everything was coming back to life! Of course, for the little filly, it brought forth more means of play.

Trotting along the soggy earth in the forest, making her way towards the meadow, young Ferra seemed in high spirits. With the coming of Spring brought more opportunities to explore and play. The snow had been fun, but it left her rather cold, and made it hard to travel to the usual spots she'd tour. Especially the meadow. It was her favorite hot spot, and it'd been covered in that arctic sheet of a blanket. She had trampled about in the new attire that the plains had held, making little trails and indents, but after awhile it became littered with hoof prints, and even body prints from those whom had rolled or fallen onto it.
Any matter, now it was time to see how it faired during the cold months. As she drew close to the edge of the forest, slender short ears swiveled forward to observe the scene. The usually tall, proud grasses were a bit wilted and worn looking. The ice had sapped out their energy and spirit. Giving a little snort, the foal trotted forward, lowering her neck to let the damp grasses graze her snout. Nipping at the tips here and there, she parted through the thick, clumpy vegetation, snuffling about for signs of life. Were the crickets and field mice out and about yet? Perhaps a flock of birds were hidden amongst the sea of brown.

User Image"Watah!!" bellowed a young colt as he dived at a particularly soggy patch of dirt. A grin tugging at his lips as he skidded across the soft earth, clumps of mud being sent into the air in his wake. Some splattered against his legs and side while the rest were left to sail through the air until gravity pulled them back down.

He loved the feeling of the mud. How it clung to his fur and how it easily gave way under his movements. And he really liked the squishing sounds it made under his hooves.

It was way better than snow.

Shaking himself off, he slid his hooves in the mood to draw out one last satisfying squelching sound before moving on. Without much though, he trotted the rest of the way to a near by meadow, disappearing into the long blades of brown grass. His short tail twitching as he sought out something new to entertain him.

Normally, she would have heard the squeal of excitement that the colt let loose, but her head was buried under the thick grasses, chasing and nosing after a scampering field mouse. Giggling to herself, she narrowed her eyes sharply, kicking into a hunting mode. The rodent was fast, but she was faster; though the tiny critter had an advantage to the filly, being petite and able to weave about without a hitch. A worthy opponent.
But as she pursued the mouse, short ears pricked upon hearing low clucks and chirps, making the foal lift her head out of the depths that encompassed her. Birds! A whole flock was grazing just before her, still unawares to her presence; mostly because it was so darned hard to hear in this place! and her hoof steps were buffered by the dense flora.
Perfect.
A sly grin peeled along her lips, ears swiveling forward like radars, honing in on her new task. This was her favorite game. Watching the birds squawk and flap their wings in distress.. such silly creatures. Getting worked up over her, an innocent little foal. Smirking to herself, she crouched low, tip toeing closer. There came pauses from time to time, as a bird would pick up on her hidden position.... but they would always end up going back to grazing.
Finally, with a flicker of her tail, she bounded forward, rushing straight into the flock, causing them to act just as she'd predicted. Laughing freely, thrilled by the reaction, she charged at a few stragglers, neighing at them in a manner as if she were trying to growl.

Having no idea that he was not alone amongst the tall grass, Bourkan continued to happily trot along. Clumps of mud falling from his fur as he sought out some new activity to temporarily entertain him. The fluffy black ears that rested atop his head swiveled, acknowledging the sounds of the birds that were somewhere near by. Maybe they could provide entertainment..

Yeah! A smug grin tugged at colt's lips as a grand plan began to form within his mind. If I caught a bird, it'd really show up that bat boy! Then I'd be top dog!

It was decided then. Using his awe inspiring skills he would catch a bird and present it to the Kalona colt that had been stalking him, in a sense, since he was a wee basket. The presenting of the bird would force the other colt to acknowledge his awesomeness, which from what he'd heard from others, would be quite a feat to get a Kalona to admit such a thing.

So caught up in his thoughts was the colt that he had not noticed that someone else had beaten him to his prey. At least not until the screeching birds took to the air, startling the colt from his planning.

"Hey!" Without thinking his action through, Bourkan began to charge towards where the birds had taken flight from. "Come back!"

Snorting in amusement as the last few remains of the flock began to rise overhead the tips of the tree's, her black cupped ears pricked upon the sound of a voice. One that wasn't her own or from the wildlife surrounding them. Head turning somewhat, eyes doing most of the movement, she spied the burnt sienna colt, ears swiveling towards him in an alert fashion. Where had he come from? She hadn't seen him on the way here, nor caught his scent. Watching him a moment, realizing his desperate attempt to call back the already long gone birds, she snorted again as her tail fanned briskly,
"They're long gone now, fella." she informed, bright blue's sliding back towards where the birds had resided, feathers littered all over the place. Stepping towards the now barren space, her head turned ahead nostrils flaring, eyes scanning, "There's probably some more down there, though." Ferra add's on, tipping her head ahead of her to the further side of the vast meadow. Glancing back at the other the filly really took a moment to actually look at him. His legs were darker than the dark orange already dyed on his coat... was that mud? Smirking to herself, the end of her mouth crooking in a bemused fashion, she headed for the next destination, figuring she might have found another partner in crime, "C'mon!" she calls out, trotting a bit faster towards the unvisited grasses.

Bourkan flicked his short stub of a tail and stared after the long gone birds, his lips jutted out in a pout. Not a single bird remained. For his young mind, it felt as if his dreams had taken flight and flown away without him. It simply wasn't fair!

However, he wasn't left to pout for long. When the filly- whose presence he had been aware of- spoke, he whipped his around so fast he almost missed seeing her completely. All he saw at first was a bright blur against a brown back drop. He promptly whipped his gaze back and stared, his large fluffy ears flicking as he takes in her words.

At first, all he could think was that this filly was his opposite. Where as he is mostly made up of dark colors, she is made up of bright colors. And well, a girl. Was he even supposed to be talking to girls? Within the back of his mind, he could recall a vague conversation concerning something called cooties and legs falling off...

Any thoughts of cooties were disbanded at the simple command of "C'mon." A grin took the place of the pout as he galloped after the filly. He didn't know where she wanted to take him, but he wanted to beat her there! "I'm gonna beat ya!"
