Please note: No, Maj and Ehawee cannot understand each others words. But they are very in tune with each other and understand the smallest gesture. And yes, Maj has spent so much time around humans that he understands most of their words.

Maj bumped his head against a nearby fence post and snorted. This so wasn't good! She'd been in there for hours! He knew why and all but did she really have to spend so much time with him? Did she really have to wait on him hand and foot. It had only been a freaking arrow! Yeah it had looked bad when the poor sucker had come in but Maj had watched and listened. Learning that the mystery man was a wandering warrior. Sifting out that the healer had pulled the arrow out clean and the warrior would most likely be alright. So why the heck was he in his Ehawee's teepee! Maj snorted again and thunked the post with a hoof. Damn it all!
Hoto watched quietly from a ways away. He smirked as he watched the smaller stallion take his aggressions out on a post. At least your human isn't hurt. At least he's not near dead now. He shivered at the thought of loosing Wahu. What would be do with himself? Where would he go? But he quickly squashed that thought. Fear was for the weak minded. He pawed lightly at the ground and willed himself not to pace. Wahu would be alright. The lady would make sure or that.
His mind wandered to the strange way they'd come here. The message mission had be fairly commonplace. One more communication between on chief and another...and then the arrow had come out of nowhere. Hoto had know instantly his companion was hurt and ran...hoping Wahu would hold on. Knowing things could go terribly wrong if they weren't away quickly.
Normally that would have stand to fight...but with Wahu injured their chances of beating the enemy where rather slim. Hoto couldn't handle a bow, no matter how much he wished he could...so he'd run. In the end using his nose to sniff out the smoke the said village. He'd ran blindly into it's center and hoped they'd be friendly. Thank his stars they'd know just what to do! They'd taken the bags and blanket off of him and hauled Wahu to the healer. They'd even taken care of Hototo himself showing him a small paddock and giving his apples. He'd decided to save both for later and instead had stood around and followed each time they'd moved Wahu. The villages had seemed to understand and not bothered him.
Now he decided to be the gentleman and walk up the frustrated stallion. Perhaps he knew something about Wahu's condition. After all it was his lady in there. He was halfway there when he saw the woman bound out the tent and throw herself around the stallions neck.

Ehawee cried lightly into Maj's neck. Her ward had woken, briefly. And she'd been so happy to see his brown eyes flutter open that she'd smiled at him. He'd smiled at her too and then reached his hand up to touch her cheek. He'd said "Thank you goddess.", and the promptly fallen back into blackness. He'd given her no time to react to the electric charge that had run though her at his touch! She promptly burst into confused tears. Damn him! So she'd run outside to her best friend. And, true to from, Maj was there and ready to comfort. No matter what.
"There there sweetheart." Maj told her in his own language, fully aware she couldn't understand. What she could understand was the side of his muzzle rubbing on her back comfortingly. He's stand there for hours if it meant making her happy. "Tell me what he did and I'll skin him. I swear I will. No matter that I can't hold a knife!" He chuckled to himself at that but didn't move from her so much as an inch.
"He touched me Maj! He woke up and touched him! I don't know what I'm going to do."
Alarm rippled through Maj. The damn man was supposed to be an invalid. How could he have done something awful to his Ehawee! She felt him go still and tense and realized immediately what Maj was thinking.
"NO! Not like that you silly horse. He's dead to the world right now. He only touched my cheek with his hand."
And now Maj was confused. He pulled himself away to look at her and raised one horsey eyebrow. "What? You're calling me silly woman? You're crying for no apparent reason."
She promptly burst into tears again at the thought of the electricity and plopped to a heap on the ground. Maj noses her and lipped at her buckskin. She could be such a strange creature. "He touched me and It felt funny Maj. Kinda like my insides were on fire for a moment. It was scary."
Maj's eyes rounded but he did not respond to her statement. Instead choosing to ignore it. Wee was just tired. That was all. She'd have more sense after she'd slept...and the strange man was gone...he'd have to make sure him and his big old stallion booked it out of the village as soon as he was healed.

Hototo watched the whole scene while rooted to one spot. He'd never seen such emotion between a Soquili and a human...or a Soquili talk to a human as if they understood. They seemed to be in perfect sync. It was almost creepy. How the hell did she read his mind? He couldn't fathom. Still...he shook it off and persevered. They must know something about Wahu so he walked forward and coughed. "Umm....excuse me. That was touching and all...but you have my human in that tent. Do you have news you're willing to share about him?"
Maj tuned to the big stallion and raised an eyebrow. He'd seen the Soquili come in sure but when the big warrior type hadn't appeared to want to socialize Maj had dismissed him. He looked at Ehawee and nudged her pointing with a hoof at the warhorse stallion.
Ehawee rolled in her heap to look over in the direction Maj was pointing. What she saw was a huge Soquli war pony with tribal markings all over him. It took her a moment to place him until she realized he belonged to the man currently sleeping on her best furs. "Oh...the big boy wonders about the warrior?"
Maj nodded and then reached down to delicately wipe some of the tears from her cheek with his soft nose. "Alright. I'm getting up." She gracefully collected herself from the ground, wiped the rest of the tears away and called to the stallion. "Warpony. Come. I will tell you of you companion."

Hoto looked first from the stallion to the girl. They were confusing the hell out oh him. He was getting a slight headache. But he nodded at the young girl all the same. She waved him to follow her and he did as she walked toward the teepee and then pulled the door flap away so he could stick his head in and see Kwahu. He appeared to be lying peaceful and breathing evenly. Hoto couldn't see the bandages under the furs but he assumed they were there. Wahu was alive! That all that mattered. He gave a horsey grin to the girl and she smiled back at him.
"The arrow came out clean with the help of some hot water and some tugging. And the good part is your master was so out cold so he didn't even feel it. The women and I cleaned him up and put a healing poultice on the wound. We wrapped it and they moved him to my tent. Supposedly because I'm the only one who has room...being alone and all." There was an awkward pause but she continued anyway. "He woke for like a minuet just a few minuets ago and then went back under. But I'm going to assume he'll come back to us sooner or later. He looks like he could break a man in half. An arrow can't keep him down long. I wish I knew your names. The chief and the shaman can't quite place you two. Thought they do seem to know you're traveling warriors."

"A name might be a good idea stranger." Maj cut in after Wee's little speech. He came forward to n** at a piece of her hair and watch the warhorse that had mostly been ignoring her as she talked. He'd turned right back to stare into the teepee at the man. For a moment Maj almost envied the warrior horse. To have such a strong bond with another male and know you could fight. That you could protect and defend anything. Including yourself. But then he shook the though off. Even warriors weren't impervious. There was one with and arrow wound in his ladies teepee.
...suddenly Ehawee shoved at both soquili males and flapped the tent entrance in their faces. "If you're going to just stand there, at least make friends or something! I have a patient to take care of!" He huffy dismissal made Maj blink. She usually wasn't so rude.
"Well you pissed her off. And am I going to get the names of you two any time soon?" Maj tilted his head at the warpony who's head was now half covered in cloth and snorted. "Come on. I know where some clover is. You just look sad."
Hoto huffed and shook the cloth off his head. "Sad?! I'm here worrying about my friend and you call me sad? What gives you the right? Why should I trust her with him anyway. I don't know a thing about her. She could poison him for all i know! If that damn hole wasn't too small for me to get in I'd be right there and she'd have to make me move. Not that she could move me an inch! And who are you to be so friendly with her anyway? You're a soquili! You made that look damn awkward. Like you're her lovesick pet. Do you think you're human? Really?" He stopped when he realized he'd been getting successively louder and more mad. With no reason for it really than he was frustrated and more than a little heartbroken. He'd never really spent this much time away from Wahu and he felt more than a little useless.
Maj raised a brow and let Hoto tirade. Weird horse seemed to be going out of his head. "Done yet? Because you just sound like you're whining to me." He walked over to his paddock, wiggled her nose around in his grass bed, pulled out an apple he'd been saving, walked back over, set it in front of Hoto and said. "Look. I'm not what you're angry with. While I am a little pissed that you called my Ehawee a dis-trustworthy poisoner...it doesn't matter. She'll take good care of him. She's been learning the natural healing techniques for years now. She'd never do anything to him anyway. It's just not in her. In fact, I think he just rattled her more that she could rattle him. He woke up and called her a goddess. Something along the lines of 'Thank you goddess.' I believe. That's why she was rolling about on the grass. She's rather naive. Now eat your apple." Maj grinned and nodded his purple and black head at the fruit at Hoto's feet.

Hoto blinked twice at the apple and wondered at the smaller stallion. He'd made lesser horses shake in their proverbial boots at his presence but this purple and black stallion was taking him in stride. "You know I out weigh you right? That I know how to put a spear through your neck. Hell a knife even." Despite this he reached down and munched the apple in one bite.
"You may be huge but I see as no reason to be scared of you." Maj nodded and smiled. "You care about that human in there. Makes you a good guy in my book. If you can love that human like I love mine then you're okay." He chuckled but then sobered. "Not that I'm going to encourage you to stay. That human of yours scared my Wee boneless. And she's been lonely too, ever since her dad died. I miss him too but that's no reason for her to loose her head over some warrior. May I ask for your names again?"

"I'm Hototo. The human in there is Kwahu.....wait....wait. Back up three steps. Loose her head? You can't mean?" He shook his head at the hilarity and let flow a huge guttural laugh. "Oh that would never happen. Wahu and I are too stuck in our traveling ways. He'd never settle. Never wanted to. We've been hurt worse and still moved on. There's a need for men like me and my master. We travel from place to place carting messages and trinkets and a little infamy. It suits us. Always has."
Maj considered and nodded. "I do hope you're right. But he did wake up and call her an angel. That worries me."
"Oh he's used that line before. He's a terrible flirt. A man and his wild oats you know?" Hoto grinned winningly.
"I'm still not sure."
"Don't worry about it. I'm telling you, give it a couple weeks. Maybe even a month and you'll see. We'll be out of your lives."

A month later the boys couldn't have been proven more wrong. It had taken Wahu 3 days to be up and moving again. But during that time he'd wanted no ones company but Wee's. Even after that it had taken a full two weeks for the warriors shoulder to work properly again. But he's seemed disinclined to leave. Wee and Wahu spent lots of time together. When he wasn't hunting he was at her side helping with her chores, making her laugh...snuggling up next to her at the campfire.
Both Hoto and Maj had become more and more disgusted and both had felt more and more useless. Maj didn't need to help Ehawee carry things anymore and Hoto was a warrior not a hobby horse. But perhaps some good had come of it. They'd become rather good friends.
"This ain't good is it buddy?"
"Not really. I heard that medicine woman talking about a wedding this morning." Maj let out a rather heavy sigh. "At least I have my mate to look after if nothing else. I feel sorry for you buddy. You don't fit around here. And sometimes you're just too damn big to help out."
It was true too. Hoto didn't fit through some of the gaps between the teepees. Hell they'd had to enlarge Maj's shelter to fit him. "You're lucky to have two pretty women to love you." He looked on as his best friend whispered something into the woman's ear and she laughed. A part of had to admit that he belonged with her. They looked right, felt right, and the look Wahu gave Wee made something in Hoto stomach tighten. "I think I need me some of that. Do you think he'd miss me?"
Maj tilted his head and gave his friend a questioning look. "Terribly. Why? You know you don't have to go. I heard the chief talking to Wahu about some messages. He'd need you for that."

Three days later Hoto and Wahu could be seen in a clearing talking. Or more Wahu was talking to Hoto and Hoto was listening. They seemed intent on each other and Wahu clearly was explain something important.
"Make me feel like we're intruding to watch" Ehawee said to Maj were they stood at the edge of the clearing. Maj nodded his horsey head to her and continued to watch. "But he asked me to marry hi Maj!" Maj rolled his eyes but she continued. "Oh I can't wait! I know you two are happy for us. But I feel so sorry for Hoto. He has to to choose. Wahu didn't seem to like that he would have to explain that to Hoto. Maybe things will all be alright."
That night Hoto was captured by harpies.
A week later, despite a still disgruntled and worried Kwahu, he and Ehawee were married.
