Calder returned to the lake where he first watched Sin swim and plopped down on the shore. It had been rather hard to get here, having finally gotten his leg tended to, and despite resting it, he was taking it easy as was suggested and not doing much walking and running. It had made him a bit stir crazy not to go running about whenever he felt like it, but he knew it was doing him good. His leg felt loads better and he knew he'd be back to 100% in no time. Still, being cooped up made going out to sit beside the lake that much more rewarding, and he watched the water.

He was a tad nervous. As far as his punishment went, he hadn't really tried to control his instincts, but now he finally had help. He just worried he'd try some funny moves on Sin again. It really was the contract that gave him some relief, and he rubbed his chest where the mark was stamped, thinking about it. He just needed to get a handle on things and the mark would be gone, he would have a handle on things involving people and water, and then people would like him. Then he'd make friends – or so he hoped. A lot of things hadn't been turning out well for him and he was losing that pep he generally had.

Sin had opted to wear her one peice swimsuit for the drowning lessons. She had finished Fearleading practice and changed before grabbing a towel and some pants, she did not want another leg cramp. She headed down to the lake and waved at Calder as she saw him. Oh boy, this was going to be a challenge, but that was just fine she needed something to distract her. At least she had finally gotten a good nights rest.

"Hey Calder." She glanced out at the lake and then back at him. "This is gonna be tough, but you'll manage." She walked a bit closer and set her towel down along with her pants and shoes.

His ears flicked back when he heard someone, and he turned to see Sin. As always, dressed to impress and working her abundant curves. She came dressed for swimming and after, mindful of the cold that had threatened her (along with him) to drown her. The idea of a second encounter with her in the water made him nervous, and he swallowed hard. He wasn't given too many directions on how to keep control and he tried to school himself before she came in keeping focused and NOT going into those deep, dark thoughts revolving around a body slipping into the deep, dark depths of the lake.

As she waved, he gave a nervous one back, and breathed out. It wasn't the body of her's that made him warmer, something that most boils got when seeing that much of her skin, but the fact she would be swimming. "I'll………try my best to behave." He said weakly, confidence slipping already.

"Relax Calder, we'll start slow okay? I'll go under, and you count to five and then shout at me to come up okay? We need to keep you from going into that funky zone thing you do. Try visualizing something unpleasant, not drowning! Pretend it's one of your friends in danger, maybe even your ONLY friend, if you lose them you'll be completely alone and miserable, so miserable you'll wish you had been the ones drowned. Then shout, yell, tell me to come up out of the water...you have to WANT someone to survive and not drown. It'll probably take a while...but I know you can do it."

She gave his shoulder a comforting squeeze and the headed down to the side of the lake. She glanced back at him over her shoulder while she tied her hair up into a ponytail. "Remember tell me to come back up after you count to five!" She turned back and slid into the water shivering for a moment before she adjusted and dove down. Sin kept a mental count and hoped that Calder could focus.

The assurance of a small squeeze got Sin a small if not quesy smile before she went towards the water. It was then that he took deep breathes, thinking of her as a friend. The only friend. What friend did he have? It was been an issue with him for a while. The fact he had no friends, or at least ones he wasn't 100% sure wanted him around, made him wonder. Well, he went with the closest friend he could think of, and that was Christof. The situation was now that Christof was drowning.

He watched Sin moved into the water, and it was hard to visualize the slender, smooth form of Sin, dressed in a tight swim suit and open stomach, as Christof. It was clearly a blessing NOT to visual Christof that way, and he watched her move into the water. Then, like that, she dumped down in.

He counted…………

1……………………………………

She said she was going to count, and he had to call for him. What would happen if he didn't? Would she hear him? Would she just stay down?

2…………………………………………………

If he just took a long time to count, would she stay under? How long could she hold her breath? His chest started to tingle.

2…..uh, 3……………………………………………

Did Sin even tell anyone she was here? She did say they were keeping this hush-hush. If he just remained quiet, she would stay down, in the dark, wondering and suddenly finding that she spent too long under water. Then she'd rush to the surface and find out it was all too late.

Wincing, he rubbed his chest over his heart. The mark was starting to burn, and he was irked by it's slight pain.

4…………………………………………….

It wasn't like it would have been his fault. He just….neglected to count. He had a bug in his throat. He lost his voice. He forgot how to count. He had excuses he could use. The pain was welling up quickly, going from a dull, prickling heat to a alarming shot that jabbed like a knife.

5…………………………………………………………

He waited with hush breath, watching the water. "S…" He stopped before calling out, a sudden excitement in wondering what would happen next. Maybe he could just……..wait a few more seconds? He clenched his teeth against the fire was was starting to seize his chest, digging in and spiking like a hot poker. Damn, this wasn't pleasant. It really hurt!!

It would have been nice if Sin had faith in Calder if she REALLY thought he could do it, but hey she wasn't stupid. She knew damn well that Calder's first attempt would fail. She stayed under a little past 7 by her mental count, just to give him the benefit of the doubt. Then she popped back above the surface of the water, obviously she hadn't gone as deep as Calder would have liked. She sighed and shook her head climbing out and walking over.

"Calder! Snap out of it! You have to focus! You have to WANT to keep others safe. If you don't you do realize your going to end up alone and maybe even expelled. You'll never be able to get near the water again Calder..." She grabbed her hair and teasingly wrung it out infront of him. She waited until it dripped a small torrent of water then flipped the ponytail back. She stepped back away from him denying him a single drop.

"Let's try it again...count to five, then shout for me...like you DON'T want me to drown." She headed back down to the lake and slipped in taking a deep breath and going back under.

He was gripping his chest, nails digging into his jacket when she rose up, his eyes having been on the spot through the wince that almost closed his vision, and he felt a certain rush in thinking she was gone. Just like that. She was at the bottom somewhere, yet to float to the surface, and he waited for some bubbles to rise. But she broke back into the water, and he breathed out a large sigh. No go. She was here again, and he watched her move up to the shore

He was pale, a cold sweat on his brow as he held his chest, but even now, the pain was slipping away. Then came the yelling, and he cringed, shaking himself out of the relapse he had gone through. Yeah. Uh, focus. CRAP! He forgot. It was just been so nice to see her go under, though he was sure she wasn't going to like to hear that. As an added torture to her shouting at him, reminding him of the consequences that he seemed to forget if he didn't get a handle on things, she drained the water from her hair in front of him.

Large, lake droplets trickled onto the ground past the boundary mark he was allowed to go, soaking into the ground, gone. He watched it with wide eyes and he licked his lips. He could smell the water on her, the lake and all its subtle scents, and he looked up as her sleek, wet body moved back to the water. OH! HE WAS GOING TO DIE THIS WAY! He wanted that water!

As she moved, he rubbed his face, breathing deep. Okay. Okay. Handle. Breathe. If you don't try hard, you'll never get in the water again. You won't even graduate. They'll throw you in jail and then you won't see the light of day, let alone be able to talk to people aside from some creeper inmate. Ugh. He could only imagine what they would do to him if he was put in the Slammer.

So he tried Sin's method again. He had to WANT to have her live. He looked out as she moved and dipped down into the water.

1……………….

Live. Live. Had to keep her alive. If she was his only friend, as she might as well be, then he'd want to live. Right? He knew what being alone was like. He knew how he never wanted that. It was why he was in school. He wanted to be liked. No one liked a drowner. No one liked someone they couldn't rely on.

2…………………………

He watched the water grow still, and he licked his lips. With the water she just rung out on the ground, he could swear he could smell the water more, and his tail flicked. A soft burning was starting to form.

3……………………………

He watched the water, mind drifting off. Alone. She was alone in the water. Alone without a friend. Alone to drown. Those who were alone had no help. The pain increased quickly, much faster than before, and he touched his chest, digging his nails in.

Calder forgot to count, watching the water. Alone. She was all alone. "Sin's alone." He said to himself, and watched the water. How often could she dunk herself before she grew tired?

By the time Sin came up, Calder holding his chest, head low as he breathed deep. Ugh. This stupid mark hurt like hell. How the hell did Christof deal with this sort of pain? It was like a thousand needles were set on fire and pressed in all at once, then he was punched in the chest. Owwwwwwwwwww. Why couldn't the damn mark just let up for him to enjoy a little bit of this. Just a tad bit. He'd call out. He was sure of it. Just a few more seconds!
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:48 pm

Sin gave him the same two seconds just incase he changed his mind and the she surfaced again and swam to the bank. She climbed out and glowered at Calder moving closer, but still out of reach. The water ran through her hair turning the pink streaks darker. "Calder if you don't FOCUS you'll never get past this." She stood for a moment trying to think of a better way to encourage him. It was tough though, everytime she went under his mind seemed to wander.

"Calder...if I DID drown you do realize they would KNOW it was YOUR fault. No one would EVER want to be around you again, they would always think you might drown them. Do you really think you could enjoy that? The rush of pleasure from one moment for a lifetime of loneliness, guilt, and misery? FOCUS! Remember...count to five...you HAVE to call out, you have to WANT to save me." She flicked her hair over her shoulder as she turned a few precious drops landing inches away from his hooves. She slid back into the lake and swam out a little further before going under with a deep breath.

When she came out of the water, he knew she was pissed. Of course she would be. Two times and he did nothing but watch. Two times when he said he'd try and he did nothing. Two times and he lost focus in LESS THAN 5 seconds! Was he really that bad? Could he not last for just 5 seconds? It seemed so, and he felt horrid at that thought. He kept getting sidetracked by one simple idea. An idea that was good when he was near humans, but completely wrong anywhere else. He wasn't supposed to be going that far. His kind just scared a bit. Dragged down. He had to learn to let go at a point. Worst of all, he had to be able to use his skill in the water to save people if the need ever came. What if he was the only person around like this, with Sin in the water, and she was really drowning?

When the demon came, his ears dropped and he sank a little more in his spot. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just…I couldn't….I'll try harder. Promise. I don't want to be alone." It was something he hadn't really meant to slip out at the end, but it was more true than anything. Sin's tactics were probably one of the best kind to drill into his head. If he didn’t do something, he'd wind up miserable and alone.

He knew what that was like, and he didn't want to have the same thing happened everywhere he went. He could do this. He could make himself better and break this habit if he gave it an honest go. He had the help now. It was all on him and if that didn't work, he couldn't be around here anymore. He couldn't be allowed to swim, the biggest love of his life, and he wouldn't be trusted around others. Alone and miserable went hand in hand if he didn't do something.

He watched her leave again, feeling cold as he curled his knees up and watched, gripping his legs this time instead of his chest. If his chest burned, it was bad.

This time he counted out loud. "One….." He watched her go into the water. Thinking of her as anything else but Sin was hard, so he thought of her as Sin. Sin, who got leg cramps in cold water. Sin, who was helping him out because no one else would. Sin, who was risking her life.

"Ta-Two." He huffed, a soft heat in his chest. Sin, who had gone underwater and could drown – which was bad. Drowning was bad. Calder, drowning was bad. If she died, you'd be blamed. Just because no one was around didn't mean you got off clean. It meant you were responsible.

"Three." It was on him. He had to call her. If she sank down………down………….down……………

He shook his head. "F-Four." He looked at the water. If she drown, he wouldn't have any help. Not only because no one would help, but it had been luck that let him have someone crazy enough to do this with him. Sin was crazy, that was for sure, she was also not liking that he didn't call out, but she was still here. Why? Did she want to be his friend?

"Five."

He paused, watching the water. Shed wait and come up. She'd wait…and might come up. The marked burned, saying 'Do Something' as it tingled and the heat rolled. "S………..Sin?" He asked, not loudly enough, but looked at the water. He had to want this. He had to want Sin to bubble up and be glad. He had to be glad to have her come back to him. If Sin wanted to be his friend, then he didn't want her to die.

'Ah…..Sin?" He tried a little louder, feeling a little sick. This wasn't settling right with him. It had been easier to watch her just drift down and not do anything.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 3:12 pm

Sin waited a little longer this time, she sill had air luckily but it slowly escaped her and she thought she might have heard something. Or was that just wishful thinking on her part? One would think she would be glad at Calder's lack of self control, if he failed her mark stayed. Yet Sin had designed the contract to be purely beneficial to Calder, she wanted him to complete it and be safe. She came up and climbed out with a mild frown walking over and stopping infront of him. She started to wring out her hair and eyed him waiting to see what he had to say for himself.

He'd get it, he'd get it eventually she knew he would but she wasn't sure how long they would be at this until he did. Still it was important, wasn't Calder a part of the swim team? He could kiss that goodbye if he didn't shape up quickly.

He curled in again when she came, leaning back as she rang her long hair in front of him. It was slow torture. Drop by drop, and as he watched each lake-water pearl drop to the ground, he looked back up at her. The face that glared down at him wasn't pleased, and his ears dropped in guilt that he had failed again. "I'm sorry." He said, knowing it didn't mean anything to her. "…..I wasn't loud enough." He frowned, looking as a bead of water traveled down her inner leg to her bare feet.

"Sin, do you have a lot of friends?" He looked up at her. "They won't like you hanging out with me. If you drown…" He was thinking about it. Really thinking about her drowning. "……Why are you helping me?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 3:41 pm

"At least this time you tried..." She moved to sit down on her towel this time next to him. She looked over a bit surprised by his question, her lips formed a solid line at first and then she slowly frowned and shook her head.

"No...not really, I have a few but...but having friends can be...trouble. It's better to have alliances, people you can rely on and who rely on you. Like a contract, when you let yourself care...when you admit that you like people then they can hurt you. You know? You give them a power over you." She toyed with the tips of her wet hair and then bit her lip.

"Don't worry, my best friend is a water demon she'll kick your a** if you drown me." She laughed and then sighed. "I'm helping you because you NEED the help...and because I could really use a distraction. Now come on, FOCUS...five Calder, you have to really yell...remember what's at stake." She stood and walked back down to the lake sliding in and under.

He watched her go and frowned. He had wanted to talk a little more, but she seemed to not want to talk about it. It was strange that she wouldn't want friends, and he wondered if this was a demon quality. Of all the demons he met, a few had friends, but they seemed to like contracts. Were contracts a odd way for demons to make friends without saying the word? Without letting them go that far? As someone who didn't make them, who didn’t need to make them, he wondered if this was just something he couldn't understand.

He also wondered that, if offered, if Sin would be his friend.

He watched her go in the water, and sat down, watching her sink down.

"One…"

If Sin had friends to have a best friend, he wondered what impressed her. She seemed to know what being alone and miserable would be like, and if she was helping him, she at least had to be kind and daring enough to be here. She was working hard for him and contract or not, that meant something.

"Two…"

He wondered if she would even like to be his friend. Did she care or was it all contract with demons. It went back to his thoughts on Christof. The contracts. The marks that bound people. Was that bad or was that good? Was having a master or mistress or being a servant as horrid as it sounded? Was freedom a small price to pay in order to have constant friendship? To never be alone. To be tied to someone.

He touched his chest, watching the water. He wondered if she would….

Could they be friends later after the mark was gone?

"Sin!" He called out, rising, looking at the water. He wanted to ask.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 4:22 pm

Sin smiled under the water as she heard Calder call out, unfortunately she also took in a little water. She came up with a cough and climbed out sputtering a bit. She sucked in a few deep breath and then shook her head and stood. She walked back over with a smile and wrung her hair out right beside him.

"Hey you did it!" She grinned and nodded, this was good, this was progress. If he could do this they could keep working on things and soon he would be safe. It wouldn't be easy but now she had faith that he COULD do it.

When she came up and started to cough, he started to panic. Was she...was she really drowning now? But he wanted to ask his question! He wanted to know! How were they suppose to be friends if she sank like a stone now! It was better to imagine her sinking to the bottom when he didn't have a question to ask!

But she returned, arriving on the shore and settling down beside him. She was proud, which made him proud, but he couldn't accept the achievement all the way. "I ....sorta wasn't paying attention. I wanted to ask you something" He had been focused on something else before his mind slipped into thinking about the water. "........even if you don't have a lot of friends, do you want me to be mine?"
