I don't know how long I had been asleep when I woke up with one thought in my mind, "I need to get to the Garden." I slid out of bed and dressed quickly. A chill had swept over my room while I was sleeping. I stoked the fire a bit to try to keep back the worst of the cold then went across the freezing hall to London's room.
To my relief his room was a nice toasty warm. How odd considering his fire was in the same state mine had been. Either way I threw more wood on his fire and turned to wake him. No way was I leaving him here alone. He woke easily enough and blinked at me questioningly. "We're going on an adventure." I said as way of explanation. "But we have to dress warm." I encouraged as he rolled out of bed and started to dress in his normal clothes. He nodded and put on a few more layers, all over his P.J.s.
I picked him up on my back to make the trip through the castle a bit quicker and jogged through the halls and down the staircases. Not wanting to bother with the huge doors in the great hall I took a shortcut through the old servants quarters. When I flung open the door to outside I was surprised with a heavy gust of snow in the face. Apparently the rain had turned into a blizzard while I slept. When I recovered from my moments surprise I slammed the door shut.
This would never do. I rethought my options quickly, still feeling an urgency to get to the Garden. It took me seconds to decide and I changed my route. I made my way to another door in a different part of the old servants quarters. When I opened this one I was greeted with warmth and low light. The sounds of animals snuffling in their sleep reached my ears.
After setting London down rushed down the hall of the stable and into the tack room. Remembering the weather we were going to have to face I grabbed a heavy western saddle that was a bit big for me but left enough room to bundle London in front of me. I went back out to the main isle and scanned the rows of stalls. My eyes settled on a stall near the back of the stable where all the prized horses had been kept by the original owners. London was already standing next to the stall almost as if he knew which horse I wanted. Which was odd because this was the first time I'd brought him to the stable.
I made my way swiftly to the stall and opened the door stepping in to greet my large palomino stud Sam. He was a good horse. One that I'd had for several years. Despite his age he was still as spirited and dependable as he was in his younger days. I murmured to him as I set the saddle across the door and reached for the brush I always had sitting nearby to give him a quick brush-down. He stood still while I stood on tiptoe to set the heavy blanket and saddle on his back. Then I reached out and grabbed the bridle off the hook outside his door. Always the gentlemen he held his head at an easy height for me to slip the bit in his mouth and pull the headstall over his ears. I'm glad he felt like behaving that night.
London watched patiently while I tacked up Sam. I asked him to grab a blanket and lantern from the tack room and meet me near the stable door. It only took him a few seconds to grab the stuff. i lit the lantern and secured it to my saddle in a way it wouldn't be a hazard then wrapped the blanket around London and lifted him into the saddle. As a last thought I took some gloves from the pocket of my coat and pulled them on. Then bracing myself I opened the door and led Sam into the cold.
The snow and wind were biting. I made sure the door was closed securely behind us before swinging into the saddle behind London. Then I pointed Sam's head to the forest and kicked him into a trot. The big guy stepped out as if this were nothing but a leisurely summer stroll. It wasn't long before we reached the trees and they took off some of the edge from the wind. with the lantern lighting our way and Sam's long strides eating up the ground it wasn't long before we found the familiar path.
We traveled all of 20 minutes like that before we made it to the Garden. The snow was falling softly here. Dancing in swirls before pillowing gently on the ground. When we went through the gate Sam slowed to a walk. Then I heard the shrill little ring. It was faint but demanding. Another dew was demanding my attention. I was chosen again! In my excitement I nudged Sam straight up to the tree, forcing him to pick his way through the flower beds and bushes.
When we were under the tree I stopped and listened again. The shrilling happened again. Right over my head. Grateful for Sam's height I stood in my stirrups and reached into the leaves over my head. When I felt a smooth warmth I closed my fingers gently around the Dew and pulled her down from the tree. She (somehow I knew it was a she) jingled again. This time a bit more relieved. I settled back down behind London and wrapped an arm around him so he could turn and look at the dew with me.
We both stared in wonder at the silver blue orb that seemed to glow in the flickering lantern light. "I have a sister now." London said. "Yep." I agreed. "Looks like shes already influenced too. What should we name her?" London wrinkled his nose as he thought for a moment." Well I liked that unicorn Arabella in that one story . . but I don't think she's one of those." I nodded and was quiet for a bit. "How about Arabelle instead then." "Perfect!" He agreed.

Entry 2
I decided that I needed to figure out a way to carry around my dews. Now that I have two of them. Along with London. However, the problem came when I needed to figure out something that fit the tastes of both. After a bit of experimenting I discovered that Arabelle likes pastel or softly bright colors and has tastes that tend toward natural or organic shapes whereas Elliotte seemed to favor black or neon colors or a mixture of both. (That didn't surprise me, him being a nightmare and all)
So I was a bit stuck. I didn't want the hassle of carrying around two dews, nor did I want to have to carry them around in separate baskets or bags or whatever I managed to choose. London's a smart kid so I decided to ask for his help. After I asked, he thought for a bit then suggested a neutral color basket with two compartments and each dew could have their own cushioning. I kissed him on the forehead and told him it was brilliant.
So I loaded us all into my fancy little gold sports car and drove us the hour and a half to town. (That was even with driving fast.) I chose a random craft store and we all went in. He took Arabelle and I carried Elliotte. Elliotte complains if London touches him. Odd.
London got several strange looks in his Yukata with his wings but he either didn't notice or didn't care. Good kid. Anyway we wandered through the section of baskets turning down one after the other as either one dew or the other objected with grumpy jingles. Finally after about twenty minutes London pulled a an antiqued silvery painted woven wood basket out from under a pile of others stuff randomly into the shelves. Neither particularly liked it but neither objected outright. So we had our basket.
Next up was a way to partition it. Rather than get fancy I decided to get some cardboard and shape it then cover it with fabric that appealed to the respective dew. Which took us to pick out fabric. Darling little Arabelle was easy. She liked a plushy light pink materiel that had silver swirls highlighted through it. Elliotte wasn't too bad either. He ended up with something similar except his was black with an electric green webbed through it. So with both Dews happy we came home to construct it. It turned out quite well in my opinion.

The sun had been out shining brightly for the last few days and it had warmed enough to get rid of the snow. So I decided it would be alright for us to go outside today. There was still a decent chill in the air so I bundled London up and placed Arabelle and Elliotte snugly in their basket, pulling their cushioning up around them in case dews could get cold. For myself I just tossed on a jacket. I love chill weather. Never really makes me cold.
Being so close to spring, I took us out to the flower gardens that used to be grown for the ladies of he castle in the past. London had been helping me with the big Garden restoration so I figured he wouldn't mind doing a little of the same at home. All the time we were making our way there I kept up a running monologue to the dews about what we were going to do to the garden. Arabelle kept chiming brightly while Elliotte just kind of seemed to ignore me.
Ah! So Arabelle liked flowers and Gardening. I made a note to myself to teach her how to care fro plants when she decided to come out of her dew. In the meantime I could just tell her what I was doing. So I set London to pulling weeds and clearing dead flowers. I asked him to explain to the dews what he was doing as he was doing it. then I went to find seeds and gardening tools. As I walked away I heard London's voice take on a serious teacherly tone and laughed a little to myself. What a serious kid.
It only took me a few minutes to find what I needed and I hurried back to my Dreams. London had gotten quite a bit of cleaning up done in my short little absence. I was proud of him and told him so. He blushed and it was cute. Arabelle had taken up a little chiming song as if she were singing. I guess she liked being outside in the gardens even if they weren't the best at this time of year. I made a note to tell her she could spend as much time in them as she wanted when she got older.

As about the same time had passed for Arabelle as it had for London before he made his change, I began to look around the castle for suitable clothes for the, I hoped, soon to be little girl. I had left the dews with London who I had listening to music in the library. So I went in and out of the rooms of the residential areas of the castle looking for girl clothes. I finally stumbled across a room done in lace and silks. Fit for a princess. Jackpot! I wandered around the room looking at all the pretties, imagining what life must have been like for this girl who was now no more than a mystery of the past.
After thoroughly touching or running my hands over everything in the room I turned to her armoire. As Soon as I pulled open the doors I knew which piece of clothing I wanted. The dress was cut to fit the torso and started to flare out at the hips to bell around the ankles. It was spring green in color with a light pink dart up the back. The straps were very thin and of the same pink as the back.
I pulled it out of the closet and laid it on the bed to admire it. It seemed perfect for little Arabelle. Dress in hand I began to make my way back to where I had left my Dreams. I was almost there when out of the door way I saw a flash of light and heard London yelp in startlement. I clutched the dress to my chest and ran the rest of the way.
I dashed into the library and there she was, sitting next to her basket. Naked as could be and smiling up at me. I set the dress down and pulled her into my arms to dance around the library. London came to dance with us and we all laughed happily. After a bit we returned to where the basket and dress had been left. I got little Arabelle dressed and pulled her long little girl hair up into a pile of curls on her head. When I was done dressing her I let London show her around the library. I turned and plucked Elliotte out of his basket and held him close. "You know you're going to be next." I murmured to him. "I can't wait."

This is going to sound terrible but, I lost Arabelle today. Have no fear I found her again. We were all cuddled up in my bed just a little bit ago till she fell asleep and I moved her to her own room. Of course when I got back her spot in my bed had been taken by Elliotte, the little bugger. For now I'll leave him be. He doesn't seem to like the room I had to designate as his. He prefers my room for some reason. Anyway, back to how I lost Ara.
I had left her and Elliotte napping together this afternoon when I went to try to find London's whereabouts and when I got back she was gone and Elliotte was still just sleeping. I tried to rouse him to ask if he knew where she was but he just grumbled at me and ignored me for sleep. So a bit panicked I went to search the castle for her. These Dreams really are exhausting. If normal kids are anywhere near this much of a pain I don't know if I'll ever want any. Though I bet most people don't have to worry about losing their children in a castle that takes hours to search and still have it be possible to miss a hiding cranny.
Since I couldn't wake Elliotte and I wasn't about to bother London, I had to search the castle myself. She hadn't gone to her room to play with her toys, she wasn't in the library in London's favorite chair. She wasn't even in the garden which was her favorite place in the whole castle. Frustrated I sat at the steps of one of the shorter towers to think. If I was a butterfly girl, where would I go. Obviously it wasn't the garden. So where . . . Someplace high? I looked up the steps behind me. I hoped not, but it couldn't hurt.
Since she was still pretty small she wouldn't want to climb very many steps so I may as well start with this short tower. So I hopped up and ran up the steps, hoping I would be lucky. Turns out I was, but I was so not prepared for what I found in that top tower room. This must have been like the only tower I hadn't climbed in the castle. At the very top in a room that had many windows and several skylights was my little Dream. The room however is what I wasn't expecting. There were crystals hanging everywhere.
There was no reason to them. They were of all shapes and sizes. Some were even shaped like little faceted animals. However they were all hanging from little lengths of gold chain. Of course the lengths of the chain were varied. There were so many everywhere that I would bet that whatever time of day it was there were always rainbows in that room. And of course, in middle of all the rainbows was my Ara. She was dancing around, fluttering her little wings. When she noticed me she pranced over and held her arms to be lifted up.
I picked her up and fished looking over the room. It must have been specially made for someone. Someone with good taste in my personal opinion. Most of the room was done in white. White drapes of fabric on the walls, white lounges. White floor rugs that all but hid the stone floor. Then there were accents of pastel colors everywhere. Pillows, a vase, just small things that didn't detract from the rainbow majesty. I have dubbed the place the rainbow room and have no doubt that Ara will want to move her room there when she gets a bit older.

It's amazing how friendly Arabelle is. She just absolutely loves people. Whenever she gets to be around someone new she gets all excited and starts fluttering about. Definitely not shy she will go up to anyone and ask to be picked up.
The other day I had her at the Garden. We were seeing all the Dreams that had grown up to teens. They all are very lovely. As soon as Ara saw them she grew really excited. she went right up to Conan and asked him to pick her up. He seemed a bit confused at first but then she did the most adorable thing. She put her hands on his cheeks and started telling him what I can only assume was the secrets of life as she saw them.
I do hope as she spends more time around me that she learns to form words properly. It would be such a shame for a little girl as outgoing as she is to not be able to spread her joy and happiness. Then again if she does happen to learn to talk, will she ever stop? I guess I don't really have to worry about that now. I just need to worry about giving her all the love she needs.

This is a little awkward to write with Arabelle in my lap watching me. It makes me happy though. She has suddenly developed an interest in words. More so than before. She has begun to mimic actual speech patterns. I hope she tries to talk soon. She always keeps me busy and on the run. It takes a lot to keep her entertained for more than a few moments. One minute she wants to be outside watching the flowers. Then she wants to see the horses. After that it's up to the rainbow room she found. Then back down to the library.
She enjoys it when i chase her as well. Tag is one of her favorite games. I taught London and Elliotte how to play it with her. Elliotte doesn't very often but London will run with her for quite a while giving me a break. Elliotte won't play with her much but seems to be developing a protective streak for her. I don't think he quite understands it himself. But especially after that whole playground incident I really think hes warming up to her.
She seems to be getting bigger and stronger and has more energy every day. I can't wait until I don't have to worry about keeping up with her any longer. It's hard working trying to catch a Butterfly.

Ara's interest in words got me to thinking about how my Dreams were growing and maturing. And then I began thinking about how none of them were getting a proper education. Also about how living out in the middle of nowhere made it inconvenient to try to get them to a school in town everyday. The more I thought about it the more determined I was to try to figure something out. Then it hit me. Craig was staying with us! He has a far more in depth education than I do. He could tutor them.
So I asked and of course he said yes. I knew London would enjoy it. Elliotte was a pain about it but that's to be expected. Then Ara. I made it a priority to get a beginners workbook of letters and sounds and work through it with her. After the official session was over she and I settled into a chair and went through a picture book. She pointed at things and I said the words for her. I said them slowly and sounded them out for her. It was cute but I'm a bit disappointed that she didn't try to mimic them. A bit surprised too since shes always talking in her own way. I guess all things will have to come in time. But I feel that we got a good start.
