He... really sucked at this, Behnam thought as he slid face first into the dirt, the hare he had been chasing hopping away as he sat there, mouth dull of dirt and grass, and contemplated his lack of hunting skills. First off, he thought as he sat up slowly and spat out a chunk of turf, he was hunting in daylight again. Sure it was almost dark, or, it would be in an hour or two, but the pink light of sunset caught on his gold markings just as bad as daylight did.

Or maybe that was just an excuse, he admitted, digging a piece of grass out of his teeth with a claw. Maybe he just really sucked at hunting.

She knew it was wrong, but the lioness couldn't help but stop and watch while she was passing by. It really was an amusing thing to watch, like an over excited adolescent being brought out for their first killing lesson, but instead of an adolescent there was a big full grown male lion with no mother in sight.

'This really must be the reason males allow all the female to do their hunting.'
Fara thought as she let out a light chuckle. 'At this rate the poor fellow will never catch anything.'

Shaking her head, the lioness carefully rose up from her spot amongst the tall grass and made her way over towards the stranger.

"Do you plan on actually snacking on meat instead of dirt? If so, I would suggest maybe rethinking your hunting strategy, yes?"

He jerked, looking up at her with a burgeoning smile that revealed another little chunk of green in his very healthy teeth. "Oh, would you?" he asked, only to spit out a bit more grass. "I must admit, I should have paid better attention to my mother when she was teaching us how to hunt."

He stood, only then realizing how foolish he had to look. "I ah, don't usually look so... stupid," he said, trying to shake off the dirt that covered him. "My name is Behnam--" And he didn't add his lineage, which made him pause as he recalled how little it meant out here. "And you are?"

Smooooth, Behnam, real smooth.

Lucky for the female that the stranger didn't seem like a threat, which made her smile. It wasn't all that often that Fara would come upon a friendly face and have the chance at company, even if for just a few moments.

"I suppose you should have, but then again now wouldn't be the time for regret since I doubt your mother would hear your plea and come running all the way down here. But as they say, practice makes perfect."

With a twitch of her tail, she stopped a foot or so away from Behnam. "Behnam, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Faraji'kai, but you may call me Fara if you wish. If I may ask, are you someone whom has recently left your family? Most whom, well, fail at hunting usually are young and newly released."

"Ah, you see, it all has to do with my pride," he told her as he tried to clean himself up. "In my pride when a male reaches a certain age he goes out and finds a banu--a mate, to bring back to the pride. There he provides her with a warm, comfortable place to live and his protection. But I have yet to ah, actually find someone interested in coming back to my pride as my mate."

He wondered just how much he should tell her about the pride, should he admit that more than one females is the norm, even expected of pads? No, she was just being friendly at the moment.

"While I might not be very good at hunting, I like to think I'm more than enough to protect a female," he added without bragging. Because of his god father, he was quite large and muscular.

Fara could not help but raise a brow at the Bahnam's explanation. While it sounded normal it also sounded quite odd in a sense, but she couldn't put her paw on it. Maybe it was just the way 'society' played out what was seen as normal and what was not, if that made any sense.

"So a male is not seen as a true male unless he can bring back a female to the pride? What if the female does not want to go along with the male, does he just drag her back? What if it takes him years to bring someone back, would that be considered somewhat laughable and sad? I would feel bad for that guy..."

Her ears flicking, the gray and white lioness thought back to her own family, or what she could remember of them. While she knew at times females would come and go she never remembered any male just dragging one in to the family.

"Oh, I'm sure you could be, but every female is different, each wanting their mate to provide in similar, yet different ways. Now, tell me, when was the last time you ate? If you wish I could help you hunt down that meal."

He thought about it. "Perhaps other pads do," he admitted. "But I don't believe in harming other creatures, especially the ones you hope to raise a family with. So even if I do look a bit silly for taking so long to bring back a banu, I will take as long as I need to find love."

He gave her a hopeful look. "I ate last night, a rabbit, actually. Because it was too dark for the light to reflect off of my gold markings. But if you could help me hunt I would appreciate it!"

Love. Such a simple world with such a heavy and broad meaning. While the word basically had a light similar meaning for most it still meant something different to every individual.

Letting the word whirl around her mind, Fara's tail twitched as she searches the area for the best direction to lead the male in search for food.

"Do you believe you will find this love of yours on your search? Some say love never finds you if you go out looking for it, but rather it hits you when you least expect it. But then again no one really knows how love works anyway. It's sort of like the wind in a way, there, yet not there. Pleasurable and caring, yet destructive when it wants to be."

Finding the target direction she smiled towards the male, "Well then let's get this started, shall we?"

The lioness darted off towards the area she thought would be best to find prey items before she started to trot off. If anything they would be where the best grass and chances for shade and water would be.

Love. Maybe she was right, he thought as he watched her go for a brief second before chasing after her. He had never truly fallen in love. He liked many of the lionesses he had met, and he was growing very fond of this one, as well, but was that love? What was love?

Was what his mother and father had love? Or was it mere fondness? They were comfortable with one another, gently caring-- Damn, he should be paying attention to what he was doing, not philosophizing about love!

"What are we hunting?" he asked curiously. "I hope it's something decently large, I haven't been eating nearly as well as I'm used to on this trip, I admit." Even though that was pretty obvious.

Giving a light laugh, Fara shook her head as she continued to make her way along the unmarked path of the land.

"Yes, I guess that much is apparent from your appearance and what you've told me, but you don't need to worry Bahnam. You will be fed as promised. I've been around this area for a few days now, and the other day I saw a herd of Zebra passing through. They should still be around, but if they did move then they shouldn't be far off."

She perked her ears at a sound being carried from a distance. A bird? No. Maybe a passing gazelle. If it was a gazelle then that could mean the zebra are still around since it was basic knowledge that prey loved to congregate together.

"If we are lucky, then there should be an easy picking from the group, and then maybe you can fine tune those awesome hunting skills of yours."

"Hardly awesome," he said a bit dryly, amused with that comment. "But how about we put a little wager on this hunting?" he asked impulsively. "If I impress you with my... meager hunting skills getting somewhat better, will you come with me and join my pride?"

Maybe if she came with him, he could learn more about love. Because he was starting to think that love was just as much something you learned as something you felt. "It will show that I'm willing and can be taught!"

Fara bit her tongue and walked silently, though the thoughts running through her mind were like sirens going off. Give up her freedom of being a rogue, why would she even do something like that? Hell, why would the stranger even suggest something like that!? What happened to that talk about love and all that, well unless...no, he couldn't, could he?

While her mind was screaming at her, her heart was tugging with suppressed feelings. To be in a pride would mean she could potentially have a family once more if things go right, and wasn't that what she had been searching for for so long now? She never imagined the offer would come about in this manner though...

"Fine, I'll take on your bet. Hunting is a one shot deal though. If we mess up once we won't get another chance for a few hours at the least since they will know we are around, which would mean they will be keeping an eye out for us for some time. I'll explain to you how things should be done, and I'll even help you chase our target down, maybe even trip it, but... I want you to be the one to take it down for good. If you can't do that, then no deal."

"I'll accept that deal," he said with a smile. "And if I win, and you come with me, perhaps you can help teach me more about love. And you will learn about pads and their banu." Too tenuous, but he had faith that if properly motivated, he would catch something.

And once she came with him, he could go back to his pride, whether she stayed or not. He did hope she would stay, though. He liked her. She made him think, and was quite beautiful.

The young lioness gave a slight unsure nod as a show of acceptance of the deal. She could only hope she was making a good choice and that what she was getting in to wouldn't end up biting her in the butt at the end of the day. To live a free life as a rogue, or to once again be in the comforting binds of a pride, they both had their ups and down, and Fara loved them both, but she knew she could not have both, and whatever the outcome of this bet, she knew she would be heading one way and leaving the other behind.

Smiling, the lioness stopped in her tracks, her bright eyes overlooking the Savannah that was dotted with shades of white, black and brown.

"Then let's get this started, shall we?"

Too bad life chose to take the side that would turn her life around....
