The orange lioness was having a fine day in her patrol slash hunting foray today. She had several nice hares stashed away to take back to the pride a little bit later. It had been cloudy enough all day that it was fairly cool, and it had been sprinkling off and on.

Etain planned to catch a few more tidbits between patrolling before heading home. She would eat tomorrow, now was about providing for her pride. The path around the territory was slowly becoming more familiar to the lioness. Up ahead was a cropping of rocks jutting up.

She'd found that they made an excellent place to find a hare or two, plus also she could sit on top and look for miles in all directions. With the cloud cover today, she wouldn't bake either. Right on cue the rocks came into view.

What was the point of really going on at this point in his life? True he was young, and still had a lot of life to live, but what kind of life was he leading? He wasn't even a real lion in his own eyes. Ever since he had been kicked from his pride things had only gone down hill for him.

He had yet to find any pride to join, or even started one of his own. He had no found a mate, which was just fine with him. And hey, he could barely even feed himself with his 'grand' hunting skilled. For all he cared it could all just go to hell and back.

Grumbling to himself, the young male sat up and wrapped his tail around himself while his tired and angry eyes scanned the area for any sign of life. He had seen a few rabbits and birds pass by here and there, but had yet to make any move attempt to kill. What would be the point if he was going to fail, again?

These days were really a boost for his ego...

With a grunt Etain jumped up onto the rocks. She had a lovely view of the plains, a lion, trees, a hare. A lion?! Turning her head back she blinked. Oh so it was. A handsomely patterned male was there. He just seemed to be standing or sitting.

Now curious, she jumped back down and set off toward him at a trot. Part of her purpose was to guard the lands and look for those wanting to join a pride. If nothing else, she thought, I'll have someone to talk to. The hares didn't much appreciate it when she tried talking to them.

"Hallo! Heeellloooo there!" She came closer with a grin to show she was friendly.

The young male closed off his gray eyes to the world for a minute. Just a minute to pull himself from reality and in to a world where things were good once more. Where he could once again be with his family. Where he could be...happy, or at least as happy as someone like him could get.

That all ended though in what seemed like a flash.
A grunt erupting from his throat, Ithu opened his eyes and turned his gaze towards the approaching female.

What could she want? Did she want company? Was he in someone's territory? Oh, that would just his luck if he was...

'Great..'

"Hi?" He wasn't so sure about her chipper attitude. "Is there something wrong here, or something you need from me?"

Etain approached a little closer when he didn't immediately fly into a rage. He didn't seem all that pleased to see her, but not everyone could be happy about that.

"Oh, I just saw you sitting here from those rocks over there." She waved a paw in a general direction toward the rocks. "Thought I'd come over and say hi. There is a pride here, but we're pretty friendly. I'm Etain by the way. What's your name? Do you have any plans?"

She looked him over curiously. Was he a bit thin? The lioness couldn't be sure.

Oh course. Of course he would run in to pride territory like some kind of idiot. Of course he wouldn't check or see the signs of an existing pride. BUT ALAS, luck would have it that the pride wouldn't be one that would attack him and drive him out. At least that was a positive side to the day.

"I don't see why it would really be important since I don't really know you, or even know if I will ever see you again, but if you must know my name is Ithukuwa, Ithu for short. I'm," he felt like he was going to vomit at the word trying to escape his mouth, but he needed to play it safe as long as he was in pride territory "...Sorry for intruding in to your territory. I kind of got kicked from my family a while back, so I don't really know where I am headed, like it even matters away."

As Ithu scowled at the memory his stomach seemed to have a plan to betray and embarrass him. As if on cue when a flock of birds passes his stomach gave a noticeable grumble, as if he had not eaten in a months time.

"....I had plans to eat. I just never got around to it..."

"Well if you ever come back this way, you'll someone you can ask for. Pleasure to meet you Ithu." She gave a grin.

"No need to apologize. I'm sorry to hear that happened. If you're looking for a new place, you could consider joining us." Etain wiggled her tail hopefully. She didn't expect an answer right away, but expanding the pride was part of her job.

Hearing his stomach, she covered her giggle. It wouldn't be polite if he thought she was laughing at him. "That wont do at all. How about helping me hunt? You can have some of the kills. I know where a fat rabbit warren is." The spot she was thinking of needed at least two lions for effective hunting.

A bit of skepticism and paranoia filled the young lion's body and mind. Why was this lioness being so kind towards him, a complete danger and for all she knew a potential threat? Most of the time, from what he knew, pride members and leader should be wary and a tad harsh towards strangers, right?

"Join you? So you are just going to offer me a place in this pride of yours; why is that? You don't even know me, or anything about me, so I could be a danger for all you knew, but...I appreciate the offer. I guess I could think about it. It's better than roaming around alone anyway..."

Shaking his head, Ithu slowly climbed to his feet, his tail flicking around behind him.

"I can't say I'm the best hunter out there, but I could give it a shot. At least I have a better shot at a meal this way. Just don't go laughing at me if I fail."

Etain took a couple minutes to seriously consider his questions. He had a point. She had done her own stint as a rogue and knew the harsh life he was facing. It could be hard not to become wary and suspicious of everything.

"Well. You just said yourself that you were kicked out from your family," Etain stated matter factly. "That means you don't have anyone right now. You may have been looking for a new home when you stumbled here. Also, I'm a Ranger here. That means I go out and look for those who could do well in the pride." Her head cocked at him.

"You say you could be a danger. That's try, but you showed absolutely no agression toward me. If you meant me harm, it would have been more likely for you to attack me as soon as I approached you." She smiled, "plus, I like to make new friends."

"Some time ago, my pride fell onto hard times. I admit I took the cowards way out and ran. For a time I was a roving rogue, like you. Then I realized how much my friends and family meant to me, so I returned here to help build the pride back to what it once was." Her green eyes looked into his to see if he understood.

"Your most welcome. The offer would still be open if you cared to go off and think about it for a few days and come back." It wasn't often she found someone even willing to think about it. Etain wasn't sure where Ithukuwa stood.

"Don't worry. As long as we get enough rabbit to feed us both, you'll be a good enough hunter for me." She smiled to show she was teasing slightly. With that the orange lioness rose to her feet and trotted off.

The young male resisted a smirk and a roll of his eyes as he watched the strange lioness trot off. A sigh escaping his mouth, he slowly rose to his own paws and followed off after her, even if his legs did not agree with the movements at first. After all they did spend a whole day traveling and after that all they wanted to do was rest. The stomach and brain however had the upper hand in this fight, so they really had no choice.

"You never really know though," he said as he watched the passing scenery. "I could be like a lying snake. You know, the ones that don't seem dangerous as they lie there among the foliage and go almost unseen, but once you take that one step they pounce up and bite you. But then again, if I do something like that I wont get my chance at a nice meal in a long time."

Shaking his head, Ithu turned his attention back towards the stripped female.

"Tell me, what is this pride of yours like anyway?"

She checked back over her shoulder, and smiled when she saw him rise and follow. There was nothing like hunting as a team. The feeling of togetherness one got when a kill was made. Etain couldn't blame him for being distant right now.

"I guess I'll have to take my chance with that one step and hope your in a happy mood." She teased. Etain realized she was lucky that her pride had taken her back after she deserted them. The poor boy couldn't go back to his family; she knew if that happened to her it would break her heart.

"My pride? Well we love to train for battle. No one gets hurt really. We're careful. Everyone is categorized into a type by their coat color. I'm a fire type." She gave him a good look over. "You would, I guess, be a ground type."
PostPosted: Sun May 08, 2011 3:16 pm

Ithu blinked and tilted his head at her words. Battle? Categorized by coat colors, type, elements? It was sounded like some kind of pride belief or something, like how some prides believed in voodoo, magic or whatever their history had them believe. He could only imagine what some of the weirder prides believe in. For all he knew there was one out there that worshiped or rock or a dead fish.

"Ground type huh? What exactly do all these types and elements mean anyway? And what exactly is your pride battling and training for? Do you have enemy pride to fight against or something?"

It wasn't as if it was any of his business, but if he was going to stick around here for a while he might as well know what he is neighboring.

Etain moved quickly. She was eager to the hunting and done. The rabbit range came into view. Slowing down so she didn't give them away to the potential prey. The orange lioness gave a soft chuckle as Ithu's question.

"Nothing really I suppose. It's just how we separate ourselves into different groups." She gave a toss of her head. "Oh no, no enemy. We train and hold mock battles because that is what we like and enjoy doing. It's nice doing it because we like it, rather than because we have to. Don't you agree?"

"So how do you want to do this hunt? Together or alone?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:19 pm

Fighting for enjoyment? In a way it seemed a little odd, in a way it didn't. He remembered doing the same when he was a cub and adolescent. His parents would say mock fighting was good practice for when they would have to do out in to the real world. They would need such skills not only to hunt, but to also protect any territory they may one day claim. Not to mention protect friends and family. It's funny how those skills didn't really help him catch a good meal. But then again the boy was still a bit naive to how the world worked. He didn't exactly know that most fail at catching a meal than they succeed.

"Right, I guess I would have to do. Everyone needs to have some sort of enjoyment every now and again."

Nodding, Ithu slowed his pace and stood next to the lioness as he looked out on to the unfamiliar grounds.

"I'm not really used to teamwork, but it would be best seeing as I'm not exactly the best at this. I might actually end up embarrassing myself, but I trust I can be of some use. Better get started then"

Today, while he woke up angry and annoyed at the world, he got to a point of actually being relaxed and happy with himself for once. Everyday he was learning something new and getting one step closer to actually maturing, for once...
