For reasons know only to her, Parvaneh had left the dens of her father and mothers. She had gone wandering off, watching everyone, and peeking into other dens. Her little paws had carried her quite a distance before she stopped and plopped her butt down out of the way.

It was almost too bright, but still bearable. She was slowly getting use to the effects of the sun upon her dark coat. Still, she panted and watched the bigger lions pass her by. Everyone seemed so busy with somewhere to go. Parvaneh wandered where they went when she saw several leaving the general area to head far out. Before they were specks on the horizon she'd forgotten about them.

Nav'hian was anxious. His beybanu was pregnant and he was going to be a father? It was a crazy, scary and almost horrifying thought. He was not suited to be a dad! He was aggressive and he had hurt Fura at first, and now she was having his cubs? He had two other banu to help with the cubs, yes, but Nav'hian still felt like he was drowning - in future cubs and the possibility of being a dad.

He had left the den quickly earlier, before any of his banu could protest, simply to get away from the view of his plump beybanu. She was still beautiful - not that he would admit that to her - but the sight was making him even more nervous.

He was walking when he caught sight of a cub watching other lions walk passed. She was darkly coloured, with some lighter patterns. He peered at her, curious. He might have daughters, he realised, before blanching. He didn't know how to handle girls! He had tackled them when he was younger! He was in so much trouble, he bemoaned inwardly.

Parvaneh was looking a little forlornly at everyone going by. She didn't want to bother anyone and she was just a girl cub anyhow. Her big green eyes looked around and spotted a large yellow male. He was looking at her!

The young cub ducked her head shyly. She couldn't remember the greetings she was suppose to use! Parvaneh risked another peek at him. She thought he seemed slightly upset about something. Her first thought was he didn't like where she was sitting.

No, she thought. That can't be it. He would have come over and told me to move. Her green eyes looked at him again and blinked. What was she to do? She could try going over to him first, or simply sit here and wait for him to make the first move. Front paws shifted nervously with her indecision.

Nav'hian was screaming inwardly that he was just not good with cubs, and his mate was having some? Cruel fate! He huffed, but his eyes remained curious on the girl who was sitting nearby. What was she doing out? She was so young. He'd never let his daughters out on their own that young! Ohg- he was already thinking in terms of his cubs. Nav'hian wanted to curl up somewhere and hide. Nononononono. No cubs.

He firmed his shoulders.

He'd have to get used to cubs eventually!

He moved over to the young female who was watching him, though she appeared more nervous then curious.

"Good day, Young Banu," he said to her politely, inclining his head. His voice was a deep rumble, and though he tried to gentle it, it was still quite loud. "What are you doing out on your own?" There! He could talk to cubs...admittedly, he was planning his escape route if he felt the first stirrings of anger or resentment or anything dangerous.

He was coming over! She almost squeaked in excitement. His voice a deep rumble made her happy. Parvaneh gave the adult male a heart-melting, cubby smile. She was glad he hadn't told her to move.

"Hello Sir," she improvised quickly. Hopefully she could get away with that greeting. "I was looking for something to do, or someone to play with. My parents are busy and I didn't want to be in their way."

Her green eyes gazed up at him full of hope. They asked, "Would you play with me?" Even though play might be below an adult male like him. No one else had noticed her except him. Parvaneh would be happy even to just listen if he wanted to talk.

Nav'hian stared at the smile the cub shot him, utterly confused as to what he was doing and what she was doing and just...everything. He nodded as she explained though. His father had always been busy when he was younger, so he used to sneak away so as not to bother the grumpy elder male.

However, his understanding of what she was doing was brought to an abrupt end when she asked him to play. Him? Play? With a cub? He'd squish her! He only knew about tackling and rough-housing, being a boy. He stared at her with wide eyes, screaming inwardly and prepared to turn tail and run away, but something left him glued to the spot.

He would be a dad soon. He had to know how to handle this! He was hyperventilating inwardly, but outwardly he asked, "What game were you thinking of?" That sounded coherent, right? He hoped so.

The little cub ducked her head, too pleased that he'd agreed to play with her to answer right away. She had to come up with something dignified for him! Parvaneh thought hard. Sudden she had it.

"We can pretend I'm your Banu, and we have a long way to travel. You're my guard and protecting me." Her eyes gleamed bright and she grinned. A guard was suitable for an adult male. She hoped he liked the idea.

There was lots of things she could come up with that he had to protect her from. Rogue lions, and hyenas were just a start. There was a small stream not far from here that they could pretend was a raging river they had to cross.

That...was possibly the most adorable game Nav'hian had ever heard. He felt his worry melt away a little bit. If he had daughters, would they be this adorable too? He wondered. Would he be able to play fun, cutesy games like this with them? He hoped so. That would make things easier. He didn't want to be his father - he didn't want to ignore his cubs or push them away.

This was good practice, he decided, and nodded at the young cub. "I would be honoured to be your pretend Pad," he said, bowing to her with a small grin, trying to look non-threatening despite his bulk, which was, admittedly, most fluff.

"But first, tell me young banu, what is your name?" He asked, realising he didn't even ask her that before. "I am Nav'hian."

The dark cub wiggled in her delight when he agreed. She felt so happy to have someone to play with. It certainly had been lucky for her to sit here. Parvaneh purred and rubbed her little body up against his leg. He was a nice Pad; she hoped her Pad would be as nice.

Green eyes tilted up to look at him. "Oh! It's nice to meet you Pad Nav'hian. I'm Parvaneh." A soft giggle escaped her then she turned serious. "Playing with me wont get you into any trouble will it?" She would hate if he got into trouble for being nice to her. It was best to check before they started.

Nav'hian's eyes went wide as she rubbed up against him, panic flowing through his mind again and the desire to flee increasing, but he couldn't flee! That was rude and it might hurt the little cub's feelings and he wasn't going to be like his father! He steeled himself, though he wanted to inch away from the young cub.

"A pleasure to meet you, Banu Parvaneh," he returned, bowing his head to her politely. He hesitated at her question, and glanced around. Some father's might not agree with him playing games with their daughters, but Nav'hian saw her as practice for his own cubs, so he could explain himself if questioned.

"No," he told her, giving her a small smile. "It shouldn't, but if it does, then I can handle it."

She stepped away and put on an air of dignity. Parvaneh had a general idea of how a 'proper' banu acted from watching her mothers. She thought it would be good practice even though she wanted to bounce around. When she tried to imitate his bow she nearly unbalanced herself.

"I'm very glad to hear that my pad." The little cub gave a wink to her playmate to let him know she was starting the pretend. "After you Pad Nav'hian." She gave a little wave of her paw in respect that he go first and which direction she wanted him to go. It didn't occur to her that he would normally choose that.

Nav'hian hid a smile at the behaviour of the young banu, pretending to be older and more dignified, even though she was still a cub. It was a cute act, though it was quite clearly an act as she was still far too young for such behaviour.

A faint grin formed on his face when the cub winked at him - winked - and began the pretence. He continued to smile as he played along with the game, moving in the direction she wanted him to and acting as her Pad, though to be honest he was a little worried he'd step on her. She was so small! Were all cubs so small? He hoped not. He might crush his in the night if he moved around too much.

Though, he looked at her with a grin. Maybe he wouldn't be a bad dad. She didn't seem to hate spending time with him. Maybe he'd be okay, when the cubs came...maybe.
