Here recently I have been feeling deep anger towards my old belief system, its practitioners, and the many contradictions I have found with in it. I have tried to meditate on the matter but the more I think about it, the angrier I become. Has any one else felt such anger towards their previous religion and if so how did you deal with it?

I don't hold anger towards any of my previous religions, but at times I hold anger towards my mother (who was incredibly verbally abusive to me).
I try to read some Buddhist quotes/suttas to ease my anger. A quote I love is:
"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned." (I wish I knew exactly what Sutta this quote is from, but unfortunately I only know the quote.)

I like that quote. I think the reason I get so angry is because I come across so many people (some of which are in my family) with the "holier than thou are" attitude and they have the "Well, if your aren't with us, then, you are against us." mind set.
I'm also angered by the way they pick and choose which rules they want to follow and by the fact that I use to have the same views.

I know completely what you are talking about... I have a mother very much like that... I would say try to do something that you enjoy doing to let the emotions out. And I really do like that quote. XP
