Charlotte watched her reflection ripple in the clear water for a moment before completely dipping her muzzle into the water for a cool, refreshing drink. Today it was surprisingly warm in the approaching noon, compared to other days that still held a slight chill, this day seemed to be perfect. The mares ears perked and her head rose away from the stream.
The object of her sudden attentiveness was the very vibrant stallion who was her new companion, friend, and then some. She blushed to herself, not quite used to being "more than friends" and, though she was sure he was more practiced with the ropes than she was, she wondered if any of this felt new to him. Every time she looked at him a smile spread across her face along with a soft blush and a swarm of butterflies tickling the inside of her stomach. This time was no different as she slowly made her way back beside him.
Charlotte gently nuzzled a section of his neck she could get to and looked up at him, smiling brightly. "Do you have something you would like to do today? Its so nice, we can do many things."

Devicius had been standing off to one side, quietly contemplating his beloved friend and companion's graceful form against the backdrop of the stream bed. When he had first come to her, or rather, they had come to each other, he had been wary of females. Afraid of them, even. But they had spent much time together, and now he felt those barriers dropping away one by one, like leaves from a tree. He had been afraid that his old habits would resurface, that he would not be able to contain himself--but something in this mare had kept them at bay, and now all he felt was complete adoration for her lively spirit.
He walked over to her as she bent to drink, and then sighed happily as she nuzzled against him. Her touch was like the touch of butterflies; not too tough, not too gentle. It was exactly as he needed it.
He playfully nipped at a piece of her hair, then turned his head to one side to think. His eyes fell on the sparkling water of the river, and he grinned.
"Perhaps a swim? I feel as if I have years worth of dust in my coat, and a bit of water will do me good." He chuckled and rubbed his cheek against hers in a loving manner. "Who knows, we may have quite a bit of fun."

Charlotte smiled when Devicius nipped her hair and proceeded to watch him ponder whow he would like to spend the day. Giggling when he said he was dust she wrinkled her nose like she was about to sneeze but just nuzzled him again and smiled up at him. "I'm only teasing, I don't think you are dusty." Looking at the river she nodded in agreement. "Washing off winters staleness would be refreshing." Blinking though when a thought crossed her mind she looked at him curiously. "You're not going to go swimming with all of your trinkets on, are you? I mean...wouldn't they get ruined?" She gently nudged the bow he wore around his neck for emphasis.

Devicius glanced around at the bow that sat on his hindquarters, scrunching his nose. He had swam with them on before, and they had seemed fine afterward... but the sodden feeling of the fabric had been uncomfortable, and they did seem to have lost a bit of their vibrancy. Perhaps he should start taking better care of his things.
"Yes, perhaps I should take them off." He reached around and pulled on the end of the large bow, letting the fabric and beads slide from his hips. He then twisted his neck down and undid the clasp of his back leg anklet, shaking his hoof to dislodge the beads. Lastly, he used his nose to slide both of his stockings down, laying them neatly on the ground. His hat was shaken off, and landed haphazardly on the pile.
Then he looked up at Charlotte, feeling strangely naked without his adornments. A blush spread upon his cheeks, but he did his best to hide it. "Charlotte, dear... would you mind undoing the clasp on my necklaces and bow? I'm not the best at reaching them." He stretched his neck out, shaking his thick mane out of the way.

Charlotte was momentarily distracted as a new part of Devicius was revealed to her. She subconciously slid her gaze down along with each adornment that was taken off. When he spoke to her her eyes snapped to his own, a blush flaming on her cheeks. She nodded as he shook out his mane and stepped closer. Carefully she worked the clasp of his necklace until one end slid away from the other and she was left holding the swinging necklace before she set it carefully in Devicius' trinket pile. She smiled bashfully when she looked back to him the blush still on her face. "Devicius..." Her voice was soft and shy as she spoke. In her head she finished her sentence with "you're naked" but in words so he could here she said; "you're beautiful." Before she could stop herselfn and her blush burned anew.

Devicius pulled back as the necklace was dropped onto the pile, beads rattling. He shook his wings, letting the new found feeling sink in. He hadn't been without his adornments for ages, if ever--it just felt so strange. Had he really been hiding behind him for so long? Was this what others felt like, the ones who had nothing but their own skin to shield them? He felt almost vulnerable, but at the same time... invigorated.
He chuckled at Charlotte's reaction, gaining courage from her bashfulness. "Thank you, Charlotte. But I have to say, you look very beautiful yourself!" He touched her on the nose, then motioned to the river, his wings spreading as he prepared to jump.
"I feel like a young stallion again! Come in with me!" he exclaimed, leaping into the air. He seemed to float for a moment, held there by the four wings, then he let himself drop into the water, spray splashing in all directions. He came up spluttering, his bangs plastered to his face.
"I hadn't expected the water to be so cold!" he gasped, but decided to stay put, knowing his body would adjust. Besides, the cold water felt good on his stiff wing joint.
"Come, my Charlotte! It feels great!" He winked, then swam a bit farther away, beckoning her to him.

Charlotte wanted to ask if he felt lighter now that he wasn't wearing so much but he was already jumping to go swimming. She laughed, seeing him so openly excited was like seening a new stallion and she enjoyed it. -t was refreshing and he seemed full of surprises, she couldn't wait to see.
Caught up in her thoughts she jerked out of them just intime to see him drop out if the air and fall into the water. She yelled in surprise as she was splashed witht the chilled water. If there had been fish swimming in that spot there certainly weren't any now. The thought made her laugh as she made her way to the river. She took her time geting in the water, stopping when it came up to her knees. "Its so cold!" She shivered and continued to shuffle into the deeper water, gasping and jumping when the water reached her chest and stomach. It was such a shock that she stePped back too quickly and caused her back hooves to slide out from under her. She whinnied in shock and tried to stand up, her eyes closed. When she didn't feel her head go under water she opened her eyes and realized she was sitting, the water gently lapping at her shoulders. Laughing nervously she looked at Devicius, "I'm okay."[

Devicius chuckled as she shivered from the cold, yet moved forward to warm her if need be. However, before he could reach her, she slipped and made a small splash as her feet went out from under her. He dashed forward, ready to help her if she was in trouble. But she hadn't fallen in deep water, and she sat safely in the shallows, once again looking embarrassed. He willed himself to relax as he reached her side, reassured that she was not hurt.
"My goodness, Charlotte. You always seem to find the slick spots." He laughed softly, nipping at her ear. "As long as you're alright, there's no worries." He leaned his shoulder against hers and put his neck beneath her neck, helping her back to a standing position. Then he started to back up, drifting towards deeper water and less slippery gravel.
"You start to warm after a while! It's only the initial dip that's cold." He stuck his head under, shaking it to loosen his hair, then brought it back up, shaking out his mane. Weeks of dirt, finally gone! It was true, he hadn't been taking as good of care of himself since... since leaving Jessamine.
He shook the thought from his mind and beckoned Charlotte to follow him. "Come, Charlotte! Swim with me!"

Charlotte giggled and allowed Devicius to help her up and walked with him into the deeper water until her hooves were just barely gracing the rocky bottom. It made her smile to be swimming, she looked at Devicius. "You know, I don't think I've been in water this deep, and swimming like this since..." She trailed off, trying to think of the last time she'd been swimming but nothing was coming up. "Well..it was a long time ago, I think I was a foal then." She looked down and realized she wasn't cold any more, sso she bravely dunked her head under the water to wet down her mane. She felt it fan out and for a moment she felt weightless, but then she came back up, laughing with her mane plastered wetly to her neck and in her eyes. She turned her head in Devs direction, grinned impishly and shook out her mane, spraying and splashing water as she did. She laughed, then nudged his cheek gently. "You're right. I'm not cold any more."

Devicius sputtered as the water from her mane splashed over his face. He laughed , shaking his own mane, then returned the mischievous grin to Charlotte. "Why, you little trickster!" He winked, then scooped his nose under the water and splashed a few drops on her fur, grinning like some silly little foal.
"Ha! I've got you!" he exclaimed, then drifted a few feet away on the current. He looked back at her, never feeling so in love. This was what he adored about her--her carefree attitude, her lovely laugh, her ability to let serious matters go and simply be a kid with him. Though he was older now, he felt younger than he ever have. And it was all thanks to her, his Charlotte, his love, his little star.
"Can you catch me?" he called, his wings spreading out invitingly. He pushed himself backward, but kept a slow pace. Truth was, he wanted her to catch him!

Charlotte laughed and grinned again. "A challenge!" She set her face to a determined look and playfully glared at him. "Don't think you can run so easily! Your wings will weigh you down!" She propelled her self in his direction, grinning and trying not to laugh and keep a mostly serious face, which she was sure she was failing at and was just ending up looking silly.
Here she was, Charlotte, playing catch me with the most wonderful stallion even she couldn't have dreamed up, and sometimes when she woke up she wondered if he had been that...a dream. But then she would look over and he would be there and it would make her grin and wonder what she did to have him in her life. It made her giddy now as she tried to leap through the water to get to him faster if possibly. She reached Devicius, grinning and touched her nose to his. "I got you."

Devicius laughed as she leapt through the water, though he didn't increase his speed. He tiptoed backwards, his hooves digging into the gravel as he braced himself against a heavier current.
"My wings? Nothing can weigh me down!" he chuckled, though she was right. His wings were very effective in soaking up water, and it was becoming harder to hold them up at his sides. The sore joint of his one wing was starting to ache, and he knew that he'd have to rest it after she reached him. He wandered how hard it would be to fly--he hadn't tried since he had met Charlotte.
He paused as she touched his nose, giving her a bright smile. "Well, I suppose you win. This time," he murmured, nuzzling her cheek. Then he sided himself with her, pressing his body to hers under the water. Two of his wings draped over her back in a cozy fashion.
"I can't remember the last time I've had this much fun, Charlotte. You've really taught me how to let loose."

Charlotte grinned and allowed herself to cuddle next to Devicius. His wings over her back felt a little heavier but she didn't mind, they were warm, which made the rest of her feel slightly less so. "I'm glad you are having so much fun." Smiling up at him she continued, "I don't exactly know what its been like for you, but it must have been scary and tiring, I'm not trying to bring it up I'm just trying to say that, its good that you can relax now." She smiled contently up at him, nuzzling him lightly on his jaw line. Charlotte stayed along side him for a long while, very contented to be drifting lazily through the water with this stallion. How amazing he was to her, so completely special. Devicius had told her she was special, his star. She smiled at the thought and wondered how she could put how she felt about him into words. Where the suddenness to do so came from she had no idea, but it was there and pestering her.
Charlotte worried her bottom lip for a moment, distracted briefly from her surroundings, trying to form the words in her head. The only thing that bloomed in her head was the one thing neither of them could handle voicing at the moment so instead it came out; "You're special. My...my Angel." She blushed furiously after stammering out her words but looked up at him, smiling shyly. "I don't know how to put it in pretty words but you make butterflies fly in my belly and my heart race in my chest. I notice where I'm going and care what happens. You opened my eyes and for the first time I see me...I..." She blushed and had to stop herself. "You're my Angel." Charlotte ducked her head slightly, but continued to look into his green eyes.

Devicius settled against her as she spoke, and though she started to bring up his past, he felt as if it didn't hurt as much as it used to. He turned to her and smiled, an encouraging gesture. "You're right, Charlotte. My past may have been soiled, but I'm able to look past it now. You are what matters, and that's all that counts." There was a pause, and he noticed that she was fighting to say something, though he didn't want to rush her. She always became easily flustered, or perhaps embarrassed, but when she actually spoke, her words were as sweet as honey.
What she did say, however, surprised him greatly. It wasn't unwanted, nor unbelieved. Rather, it was like a sudden breath after thinking that you'll never reach the surface of the water. Like a sudden revelation, a shining light in the dark.
"Charlotte..." he murmured, keeping his gaze leveled with hers. His eyes were soft and caring, filled with love. "I... I'm honored. And I'm absolutely in love with you. There are no pretty words needed, no proof or actions. I can see the truth in your eyes, and for you to say that... it means the world to me. It really does." He leaned forward and entwined his neck with hers, hugging tightly. He never wanted to let go.
"My star."
