I noticed the thread for favorite game soundtracks, so I figured I would try and get a little more specific! What are your favorite boss songs? I'll post links to youtube for my picks, but you don't have to (though I am curious to hear your choices!) Also, if you're feeling wordy, add in a short description of why you like them! I'll start: The Oracle - Fighting Dark Lich from Secret of Mana. Head banging horror song while battling a giant skeleton demon. The best part, for me, is that it's sort of a shredding version of this guy's normal temple theme. Both are freaky in different ways. The temple theme is just...*shudder*...while the battle theme is more like: OH SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS - RUN!! The Fierce Battle - From Final Fantasy 6, while fighting the Atma (Ultima) Weapon. I know it's used elsewhere in the game, but it will always make me think of that giant Atma Weapon, with the blue flame emanating from his mouth. It's booming and large, like the boss, and puts the fear in you, though, it also has a touch of "heroic" in it to make it a real fight rather than a once sided beatdown. Festival Of Servants - This is very nostalgic, but I still love it for what it is. Classic rock 'n roll and a bit of metal to make a great boss song that's just PERFECT for an asskicking. Nothing else to it, really. They put some guitars together and said "Okay, lets make a boss song." They succeeded. DOUBLE - OH MAN. I love this song to my very core. Raw, LOUD, someone sounds like they're trying to rip a guitar in half, and the battle that goes with it is FAST! This is from Mega Man X 4, and you're fighting Double, a former goofy b*****d who turns into a psycho killer and starts the fight with the lovely words: "I'm so anxious to rip you apart!" I will never get tired of this song. And while we're on that subject... Sigma's Final Form in X4 is also a major favorite. It's another "OMG RUN!!" moment. The battle starts, and Sigma is just EVERYWHERE. The music is way fast and blasting out guitar and hammering drums. You know you wana finish this quick, 'cause Sigma just ain't gona stop. If you don't finish this NOW, then you just don't know how long you can last. Awesome, spectacular song. Full of energy. Awakening The Chaos - From Blazblue, and you're battling Nu-13 at the end. She's playable from the start, but I still consider this a boss song. This one is a standard "holy" sounding song, but it's a great one. Starts out slow, but give it time. Really. From start to finish you get a fantastic feeling of "Let's end this." The Strongest Knight in the Galaxy - From Kirby Super Star Ultra, on the DS. Extra game in KSS that they added for Ultra, where you take Meta Knight through the whole game. At the end, you fight this angelic version of Meta Knight called the Galacta Knight to this song. It's fitting, because this guy is friggin' ALL over the place! If you didn't have the healing ability in that game (which you don't in the arena) then this guy is a total b***h. The song, though....man that's good heart pumping stuff. Also from that game: Fighting Marx. He's the good old fashioned batshit crazy clown character, and he turns into a horrifying bat monster when you fight him. The song goes from crazy to a feeling of "I've got to DO this..." It's perfect for Marx, but also works well for poor Kirby who has to stop him. It also has this...regal feel, for me. Dunno why. Pokey, Armed and Dangerous - He he he...what a goofy song. Starts all classic nintento sounding, then RIPS into you with some metal guitar sound. It's perfect. Pokey is this fatass b*****d that you are looking forward to pounding into sausage, but then he ends up being a hard final boss! Not as bad as Giygas, but he gives you a run for your money....and gets away in the end. I'll get you Pokey. Someday. I hate you more than any one person should rationally hate a fictional construct. I'll get into Sonic now, two favorites: First, Doomsday Zone. Listen to it. You're outa time, the badguy is getting away, there's one chance left. GET HIM. NOW. I love this song. It's epic, it's fast, it's Hero VS Villain. Don't even think of the game when you're listening to it. It's just raw, classic battle of good and evil. The last battle, to be exact. Oh, and if you're already a fan of this song, then you absolutley must listen to this.Anyway, same vein: Sonic 3 Final Boss. Similar feeling to the last song, but with some added despair. Can the hero hold out? It's another with that "final" feeling, but it's much more tragic. Okay, I think I've already said too much! I wana hear what the rest of you covet as your top favorites in boss-fighting history. Let's hear it!

Oh boy. For me, music tends to have trends. I like a particular style for a while, then I move on to another for a while, then another, then another. Therefore I have quite a few tracks that I like or have liked and/or are likely to go back to liking more. I'll try to list them all, but I may think of more and come in here and throw them in.
The first track that comes to mind at the moment is The Extreme from Final Fantasy VIII. Ultimecia is one of my favorite baddies from the series, so naturally. I also enjoy the Black Mages version, though the original still wins out over the remix. My favorite part of this particular song is at about 2:19, when the beat suddenly picks up a bit. This, and all the retro/Mario Paint Composer/rock remixes that I've ever found, I usually like them.
On that same note, I also really like Premonition; it's very "double, double, toil and trouble", which is what they were going for, considering the story and all. I like how well it works. Likewise, I also really like the Black Mages version of this song as well.
Jumping away from Final Fantasy, I like the gothic and yet epic sound of the fight between Dante and the Devil Emperor Mundus in the original Devil May Cry. It's loud and in your face, though the fight itself is kind of not in some ways. Regardless, it makes for quite the fight.
I know the world will hate me for this too, but I really liked the metaphorical Ragnarök that played out in Devil May Cry 2. Yes, complain about the game, but the metaphor they were making here was definitely an interesting one, as well as the fact that I love the sound of organs.
If we kind of follow a mild train in this nonsense, there are a few in Bayonetta that I like. The first is Blood and Darkness, the final fight with Jeanne. I love that it's got vocals, organs and violins. The only song that could possibly be better than this would be... You May Call Me Father, of course. I'm not sure how to describe the way this song comes off to me, but it perfectly emphasizes the fact that you're fighting penultimate boss attached to a piece of flailing debris from the tower while falling a million miles an hour toward the ground.
Flying back in time and going somewhat retro, there is the classic theme of Ridley in Super Metroid, and naturally its subsequent remixes. No matter how many times the remix the same song, it never gets old for me.
A little less retro, I really like the super Asian "end of the world" type of ultimate battle between Ookami Amaterasu and the Emperor of Eternal Darkness, Yami. I think that Japanese mythology is amazing, and the way they emulated and orchestrated this final conflict between the celestial deities of the sun and the moon had quite a lot of grandeur in it.
This isn't really a complete list. This is just all that I can think of at the moment. I'm certain I will be back to add more random music.

Therefore I have quite a few tracks that I like or have liked and/or are likely to go back to liking more. I completely understand you! It's tough to say which ones are favorites because the mood changes so often. I put down the basics for myself; the ones that I'll listen to no matter the mood (usually). Quote: The first track that comes to mind at the moment is The Extreme from Final Fantasy VIII. Ultimecia is one of my favorite baddies from the series, so naturally. This, and all the retro/Mario Paint Composer/rock remixes that I've ever found, I usually like them. I didn't gain an appreciation for this one until my friend expressed his love for it. I hadn't actually beaten this game (my save was erased at one point, and I realized how much I disliked it, so I never went back to play it). My wife was on a mission to play all the FF games, though, so I watched her play through most of this one, including watching the final boss. WOO BOY. That was certainly one of the hardest FF bosses that I've ever seen. I mean, your only real power is the spells junctioned to your characters, and she can blow those spells away. It's all luck from then on out. Quote: I know the world will hate me for this too, but I really liked the metaphorical Ragnarök that played out in Devil May Cry 2. Yes, complain about the game, but the metaphor they were making here was definitely an interesting one, as well as the fact that I love the sound of organs. Never played those games, so this one is new to me; but I like it! I'm with you on the organs, they really make this one stand out. Quote: Flying back in time and going somewhat retro, there is the classic theme of Ridley in Super Metroid, and naturally its subsequent remixes. No matter how many times the remix the same song, it never gets old for me. Ah, classic! You're right; this one never gets old! I'm so glad they've kinda adopted this as Ridley's main song now, 'cause that means we get to hear it each time we fight him. I'm especiall fond of this version from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Quote: This isn't really a complete list. This is just all that I can think of at the moment. I'm certain I will be back to add more random music. Looking forward to it!

I liked all the pokemon gym/rival battle themes up until the 4th gen. Quote: I also like the boss music from KH2. I totally forgot how awesome this music was. Too bad it was wasted on such a boring game. Oh, and Ripto's Volcano from Spyro 2: Season of Flame was pretty damn catchy. ... sweatdrop Yeah, I really don't have a lot of music to contribute.

Fine choice, sir! The Chrono Cross soundtrack is near and dear to my heart; I bought the sucker before the game even came out in the states (mostly to get the opening theme, that they played in trailers. That grabbed my ears right away, and remains to this day as my all time favorite adventure song). I remember some songs with names that I gave them, since I didn't know what scenes they went with yet. I could tell this one was a battle of some sort, but it was so...sad, and epic. I named it "final", for some reason. I was close!

-Miniboss Theme from LoZ: TWW. I love how energetic the music is, and it does make me feel like the tiny Link is battling for his life. -Still More Fighting from FF:VII. It's not my favourite FF game, but I love the boss theme. -Necron Battle Theme from FF:IX. The creepy moaning at the beginning is awesome, and reminds me that the fate of everyone rests on the shoulders of my little party. -I also found all the Robotnik boss fight themes from the Sega Genesis Sonic games to be pretty awesome.

I finally took the time to listen to all of them, and I've heard some of them already, and some are new to me. The first one was certainly interesting, but it's one of those that would have to grow on me a little. I remember that one, certainly. I was never good enough at that game to beat the Atma Weapon, so I've tried and failed many times. I like how they used it in Dissidia as well. I've only ever played the original Castlevania, so I can't say I've ever heard that before. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a remix of one from the original; it's been a horrendously long time since I played the original. I'm not much of a fan of distorted guitar noise, so a couple of those I could only listen to for a few seconds. =p The only Kirby game I've played all the way through, I have to admit, is Kirby 64. The two you put were interesting, however. I have played both of those Sonic games, and yes, I like both of those. I think I've heard the Doomsday Zone theme elsewhere, but I can't remember where. Hm...

Shizuka Mizu I finally took the time to listen to all of them, and I've heard some of them already, and some are new to me. The first one was certainly interesting, but it's one of those that would have to grow on me a little. I think it's the same for many people! It's noisy and chaotic, which are some of my favorite things (in terms of music, anyway. Contrary to that fact, I don't like big groups of people or concerts). Quote: I remember that one, certainly. I was never good enough at that game to beat the Atma Weapon, so I've tried and failed many times. I like how they used it in Dissidia as well. Ah, I didn't know they used it in Dissidia! I bought the game, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. As for Atma...well, I knew a secret back in the day when I originally played the game. Cast vanish on the enemy, then cast doom, and it equals instant death! 'Course I can beat Atma weapon on my own nowadays, but back then the secret was too enticing. Quote: I've only ever played the original Castlevania, so I can't say I've ever heard that before. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a remix of one from the original; it's been a horrendously long time since I played the original. Oh my! You've never played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but you're a fan of Super Metroid? Find a copy! You'll love it. It's on PS1, there's a copy of it on the PSP Dracula X Chronicles, can be bought on the PS Channel on PS3...many ways to get it! It's simply a classic among the PS1 generation. Quote: I'm not much of a fan of distorted guitar noise, so a couple of those I could only listen to for a few seconds. =p Ha, fair enough! Like I said, I'm a fan of the chaotic sound, and distorted, loud, wailing guitar is one of my favorites. To each his own! Quote: The only Kirby game I've played all the way through, I have to admit, is Kirby 64. The two you put were interesting, however. You should certainly give Kirby Superstar Ultra on the DS a shot, then. Quite different from 64, but very fun (if not a little easy). I only played 64 recently on the Wii virtual console, and I ended up loving it! A real gem on the N64, honestly. Took me by surprise. Quote: I have played both of those Sonic games, and yes, I like both of those. I think I've heard the Doomsday Zone theme elsewhere, but I can't remember where. Hm... Yes, some of my absolute top favorites! The Sonic series (on the Sega, anyway) and the Kirby series create some of the most...out of place music for video games. What I mean is that the songs have a way of being bigger than the games themselves; Kirby especially, in some cases. Anyway, I can't think of where you might have heard Doomsday Zone elsewhere. To my knowledge, they haven't used it anywhere else (save for anyone adding it to a youtube video).

0:56 Obviously the person added this over the original theme, but that's where I heard it.
