The sun's rays, as they peeked over the low hills, found Leilani's eyes. It was early, very early. Dew was still heavy on the ground and the air chill as winter turned slowly towards spring. Some obnoxious birds were set up in a nearby tree and the whole world seemed to be trying to wake the mare.

Leilani groaned, her head aching. She was sore and felt a little ill. There was warmth on her right side, a solid body of warmth and she burred her head against it. Wait, not it . . . him.

Dark blue studded with white and . . . feathers. What was she doing next to this stallion? Blinking, the strong sunlight turning the world's colors harsh, Leilani tried to place him, but wasn't having much success. Was she suppose to know him? She must, he was awfully close for a stranger.

Then the world dipped and swam and her stomach protested loudly. She barely managed to stumble up and away before the contents came rushing out in a rather noisy retch. Feeling miserable, she stood there, head hanging for a moment before another spasm rippled through her belly and it continued to empty itself. That was funny, she didn't remember eating clovers, and she was sure she would have chewed them up better. . .

Eoghan awoke feeling suddenly cold, as if a blanket had just been yanked away from him. He looked around, beginning to panic as he realized he had no idea how he'd gotten here. Looking around made him dizzy, and Eoghan was about to give up and go back to sleep when he noticed the mare.

She was beautiful, with a shining white coat and lavender hair. Her eyes were a vibrant blue. Wait a minute. Eoghan couldn't see her eyes. How'd he know what color they were? More importantly, why was she now getting sick so close to where he had been sleeping?

Shaking himself awake and standing up, Eoghan edged slightly closer to the mysterious female. "Are you all right?" he asked. As his legs threatened to give way beneath him, he had to also wonder, "Am I all right?"

Leilani started at the voice suddenly behind her. The leap of surprise half turned her back towards the stallion. Eyes wide, she blinked once, taking him in. The lurch in her stomach seemed to coincide with the jump, but she swallowed hard and managed not to throw up again.

Another blink, "Am I . . . um, yeah, I . . ." But she wasn't, as though opening her mouth invited her stomach to rebel again, Leilani managed to turn her head at the last moment to keep from splashing his hooves with bile.

She managed to swallow the belch that tried to follow but, swayed on her feet for a moment before she could again turn to the stallion. Feeling fairly certain there was nothing left to come up, Leilani still waited a moment before speaking, trying to assure herself her stomach was going to behave.

"Oh, ah, oh I'm so sorry. I . . . that was rude, I, no I think I'm okay now. Must have had something I shouldn't have at that party. I was at I party, I'm pretty sure. I . . . oh . . . I think I'm just going to . . ."

Leilani folded her legs under her, slowly settling to the ground, hoping the world would stop tilting around her. The fact that she stopped speaking in the middle of a sentence wasn't really registering at the moment.

"A party?" Eoghan repeated. That sounded awfully familiar. But thinking too hard made his head hurt. Or was it just him breathing that made his head hurt? Eoghan swayed slightly himself. "I think you have the right idea," he said at he clumsily sank to the ground beside her.

After waiting a few moments for the drums in his head to quiet down, he said, "I am Eoghan. May I have the honor of your name?"

Leilani blinked, a bit surprised that he was still there and talking to her. "Oh, hi, sorry . . . " a long moment of silence stretched out before she remembered she hadn't finished speaking. "I'm Leilani. Nice to meet you . . . I think." Things were still spinning and closing her eyes seemed to make it worse.

"Were you at the party too? I don't really remember . . . I don't remember anything really. I guess I had fun."

Party? "Yes, I suppose a party does sound awfully familiar. II seem to be having trouble remembering myself." He looked at her. "It's very nice to meet you, Leilani. Even if the circumstances are a bit ... uhh ... yeah." Eoghan blinked. "Is it bright out today or what?"

Leilani starts to nod, then thinks better of the decision. "Yes, rather bright. And loud, I do wish that bird would stop singing." Her eyes closed, she tried mightily to remember what she must have eaten to induce this result, she surely didn't want to have it ever again.

"I wonder if there's a fresh spring near by, I could go for some cool water I think. If I can get there without falling over anyway." Leilani slowly got to her feet, a bit wobbly, but determined.

Eoghan got to his feet, perhaps a little too fast, and said, "Let me help you." He looked around, trying to remember where he was. "Maybe that way?" He asked, nodding towards the left.

"Oh," Leilani said as he stood, "Oh, thank you. Um . . . that way's as good as any other I suppose." She allowed him to lead her in the direction he indicated.

"This is very nice of you. I'm glad for your help, but you don't have to, you know, if you had something else to do. I just . . . " she stopped talking an walking for a moment as the world spun around her. Swaying slightly, Leilani leans against Eoghan. "Really, no more parties, not for me. This just . . . I think I can move again. Thank you," she smiles at him as she starts walking again.

Eoghan helped Leilani along, wishing there was more he could do to make her feel better. He didn't know why, but he felt responsible for the mare. "I think I will be staying away from parties from now on myself," Eoghan said. He smiled back at her. "And it's no trouble at all. It's always a privilege to aide a beautiful lady."

Leilani smiled and blushed slightly, "Oh, ah . . . thank you. I . . . I don't know that I'm beautiful, but thank you."

As they walked, the sound of a softly bubbling stream could be heard, "Oh, I hear it." Leilani picked up her pace a bit, though she was still unsteady on her feet and couldn't move too quickly. "Thank you again. I . . . you have such lovely wings, you could fly where ever you wanted, I don't want to keep you on the ground. I . . . if I could fly I'd hate to walk."

"Thank you." Eoghan folded his wings in tightly around him. "Flying has its good points. But it also has its bad points," he said after a few moments.

"Bad points? I can't imagine anything would be bad about flying." Leilani took the last steps past a couple bushes to the small stream of fresh, clean water. Taking a few sips of the cold water helped clear her head, though it still ached. As the water hit her sore and empty stomach, it seemed to settle the twisting. "Ah, that's good."

Eoghan also took a sip of water. "Yes, it is," he agreed.

"Well, when you fly, you're kind of above everyone, you're not really a part of them. Gets old," he said in answer to her question.

Leilani looked at him quizzically, "But you can see everything and everyone. See them as you can't on the ground. Doesn't that mean you can understand them, understand the world better?"

A bout of dizziness washed over Leilani and she swayed. Blinking, twice, she put her head between her front legs. "If I never see another party, it will be too soon."
