I'm gonna seriously snap...
there is a reason he didn't win. plenty of reasons actually
1. he won a best new artist award at one of those pointless award shows last year so he ain't exactly 'new' anymore, now is he?
2. its the GRAMMYS and 12 year old girls don't decide who wins, the "academy" does
3. Esperanza Spalding is a REAL musician. She plays bass, double bass, guitar, piano, and much more. plus, she is a professor of music at berklee for God sakes. WHO ELSE DESERVES IT MORE?!

Actually, I know very little about him, except that he is another young, manufactured star, with modest talent and the kind of rabid fanbase that propelled Stephanie Meyer to fame.

I totally agree, but I got an opposition for you.
why, why oh why oh WHY WHY WHY
does every youtube video comments GOTSSTA mention his name? Like, "oh 19(dislikes) people like bieber." and "oh, people just dont like it because its not like music of today, effin Justin bieber freaks" okay, hello, i will agreeeeeeeee that music of yesterday is mucho better - but why is it so easy to put the hate on this dude? hes nothing. XD
and actually, i hate justin bieber - hes a brat. but thats another topic. XD
