Esche had gotten to thinking a lot lately. Not about anything too terribly deep at the moment, but thinking nonetheless. It had all started with Manelesi and his want for Esche to satisfy his "itch". Now that hadn't worked out for Manelesi because Esche firstly had never heard of two males mating before, but secondly because frankly Esche just wasn't interested in other males. But it did give Esche cause to think.
First Esche had to wrap his brain around the concept of two males together. Once he thought it over he didn't really have a problem with it. Esche figured that if two males both wanted to do that then hey, more power to them. He just didn't want to be involved.
While Esche wasn't interested in males himself, this whole thing with Manelesi did give him a second thing to ponder. It had reminded him of just how long it had been since he's properly spent any time with a lioness. It made him realize that Manelesi was right, he was very tense, and he could use some "attention".
Sitting by a pool of water, Esche made an effort to make his mane more presentable. He batted his paw through it and rubbed up against a tree in an effort to get everything lying more smoothly. Once satisfied with his looks he began to prowl around looking for any attractive and available females.

Dark claws tore at the carcass beneath her as the lioness feasted on her midday hunt, a plump gazelle. It had been a long chase, but the prize was well worth the effort. And to make sure her meal didn't go in vain, the lioness had dragged the heavy weight to the base of a tree, so she could enjoy her food in peace and quiet, away from the heat of the day.
Pinning her ears back, Kusu licked at her paws with an expression of joy. It was always a nice change of pace to relax with a full meal, instead of prowling around hungry and fatigued. But that was the way of life here, and only the strongest were to survive. Or the most stubborn. Snirking to herself, Kusu peered around the landscape curiously as the scent of many hunters hit her nose. Oh they were around here somewhere, lurking in the pale grass. So long as they left her be, it should be a pleasant enough afternoon.

Lucky for Esche there was an attractive female around, though he had no idea if she was available. The almost solid blue of her body reminded him a bit of the night sky and her red eyes made a striking contrast. He also noted the lighter tail tuft which matched the markings around her eyes and on her shoulders. Those markings were not ones he'd ever come across before and he liked them, at least what he could see of them at this distance.
Currently Esche was keeping his distance because the female was eating a gazelle that he presumed she had hunted and killed herself. He knew others could be touchy about being approached while eating out here as food thieves weren't uncommon. Though he didn't want to make her angry, sitting around and watching was not accomplishing anything towards him getting to enjoy her company.
Esche slowly made his way closer before stopping at a good enough distance away. Close enough to be heard as he talked to her, but far enough to hopefully show he had no interest in her catch.
"Greetings. My name is Esche. I was wondering if I might know yours?"

The lioness lifted her eyes and neck to the scent of another nearby. A lion, no doubt to that. Turning with a bloody muzzle, Kusu spotted the pale male just some feet away from her and staring straight in her direction. Her fur bristling in a warning and her tail swung next to her ankles. Despite his distance, the lioness placed a possessive paw over her meal.
"And just what do you want, Esche."
What did she care what his name was? Unless he was someone from his past coming to visit her again? Lifting her brow, she analyzed the individual. But his speckled fur and ghostly eyes were of no familiarity to her. So, he'd come all this way just to ask her name? Pft, not likely. Probably, like most lazy males, he'd come just to scuffle away from her hard work just to feed himself.
Huffing to herself, she decided to play along for now. "The name is Kusu."

Esche was not surprised to see Kusu get possessive of her meal. He'd seen it happen many times before, and he'd had to be possessive of his more then once. Her tone was not entirely a welcome one, but hopefully she'd change her tune if she realized Esche wasn't interested in her food, and just interested in her.
"It is good to meet you Kusu. Don't worry, I'm not interested in your kill, I've had my fill of food today. Really I just wanted the chance to spend some time with you." Esche's tone came out even and calm, but also earnest. He truly meant what he said and it showed. His focus was solely on her, his gaze only looking to the kill when she bent her head to feed. He kept his distance still for now. The last thing he wanted was to start a fight with Kusu.

The lioness lifted a brow to his straight-forward talk. So, he didn't care for her food at all. That was one less thing to worry about. But still, he was a rogue male and he must have been interested for some greedy reason. That's what her logic was telling her, anyways.
"Some time, eh?" Kusu pricked her ears forward as she debated that detail. Then she glanced him over with sharp red eyes. Hm, he was a decent enough fellow in stature and colors. But she was a stubborn lioness who loved to play teasing mind games. "And do tell, what makes you think I'd care to share my time?" She gave a short grin at the other, wondering how this lion would answer. He'd have to be careful, because Kusu was known for her temper. Pretty but fatal like a flame, lashing out at even the slightest bother of wind or words.

Esche looked thoughtful as he considered her question. It was a tricky one to answer to be sure. Anything he said could be taken the wrong way depending on who it was said to. After a brief moment of consideration he spoke.
"Well that is what I am trying to discover still. You've given me no reason to think that you want my company at all, but you've yet to turn me away either. I suppose it's just a matter of me hoping that you do want some company, mine in particular. I happened to think you were a very lovely lioness so I figured it was worth attempting to spend some time with you."
The last part came out almost by a mistake. Esche knew many females enjoyed flattery, but then there were those that didn't. Not that the flattery he'd just spoken was untrue, but sometimes being so forthright with it was a mistake. He often found himself wondering why this had to be so difficult, and why he was so bad at wooing females. It was probably due to his distinct lack of female interaction for the most part. He was beginning to think maybe it was something he should remedy if only to get in better practice.

The lioness lounged quietly while flicking her tail, simply looking on at the other. Seemed the cat got his tongue, and he was momentarily speechless. It was soo amusing to watch, with Kusu only giving a grin to his thoughtful pause.
Then she gave a sharp laugh as the other tried to point out the logic to their meeting. It was true, she'd yet to chase him away when she had good enough reason too. But then again her meal was already down to scraps and bones, so it was hardly anything for her to defend or fight over. Resting her chin on her paws, the lioness looked at the other coyly. Or maybe it was her own body language of submission? Who knew, as it would be a risky guess.
"Is that so? I can't deny I do enjoy the luxuries of a pretty coat. And I'm sure you feel the same pride as that. However, I'm not one that likes to...share." Hm, indeed he was a good looking lion. As far as survival preferences went, he had both size and physique to be appealing. Now all he had to do was prove his attitude. That alone could kill or seal a deal.

Esche wasn't really sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing that the lioness found his answer so amusing. Females liked when you amused them. At least Esche thought that was true, but lack of practice made him unsure of that. Besides for all he knew Kusu was laughing at him rather then just being amused by his words.
Esche was definitely on unsteady ground now. He was unused to complements so wasn't really sure what to say. In all honesty he wasn't really sure what to say about Kusu not being one to share. He decided the best route to go though was that of a gentlemen. As far as he knew, that was another thing ladies liked. At her expression, Esche decided he'd step closer, closing the distance between them a bit more. He stopped before getting too close though. There hadn't been a green light yet after all.
"I truly never thought of my coat as anything special, but I'm glad that it pleases you. As for the sharing? Well... a gentleman never would expect a lady to share if she didn't want to. Though he can hope she does."

Kusu's muzzle lifted in a small and bemused smile as the male lion seemed to take in the situation slowly. Almost as if now he was spooked, even though he had initiated the encounter. Flitting her tail like a house cat, the lioness lifted a slight brow as she watched him. Normally she wasn't one to tolerate the presence of others, but this fellow was soo entertaining with how he seemed to stumble over every little detail. And at least he wasn't a snarky individual, or else it would have sparked her own unbalanced temper.
And yet her paw still curled defensively around her meal.
"Oh, but the skin of every individual is sooo important. It matters in all aspects of life, between survival or stealth, disgusting or attracting, everything. And yours does please me, at least upon first glance." Hm, she wondered if he was a strong or muscular as his shaggy fur led others to believe. Humming to herself as she debated his response, Kusu tilted her head as she stood to slowly approach the other, herself testing the waters. "So then, does that make you a hypocrite, since you don't mind to share?"

Esche gave an agreeing sound as Kusu spoke about the coat thing. "Well thank you. I have managed to survive, amazingly enough." He didn't intend to elaborate on the amazingly enough bit unless she pressed him though. He'd come in search of pleasant distraction, not dwelling on his past. He'd seemed to be doing much of that lately.
However at the hypocrite statement Esche found himself feeling a little confused. He wasn't sure why she was calling him a hypocrite. A puzzled expression played onto his face. "A hypocrite? Why would you call me that?" It dawned on him that maybe she thought he meant he hoped she'd share her food rather then her company as he thought she meant. "Perhaps we're talking about sharing two different things..." He gave a sheepish chuckle and watched her as she approached. He stayed where he was, and was relaxed, except for his slight embarrassment at misinterpreting her words.

"Hn, that's all the better to know." The lioness gave a dark smirk against her dark fur. Always nice to know that male company was....well, manly. And not just some weak creature with luck keeping them alive. But no need for details, as Kusu had a short and sometimes moody attention span.
Clicking her tongue as she stepped nearer, Kusu tested her boundaries with this stranger slowly. But not so slowly as to make the encounter boring, oh no. Tilting an ear back, she debated his question. "Well lets see, a lady doesn't have to share, but the gentleman hopes that she will?" Then she gave a laugh, surprisingly a pleasant sound despite her sometimes cruel tongue. "Oh no, I believe we are talking about the same thing. However, I'm a rogue lioness. And once I since my claws into something, well I like to think that it is mine." >3

Esche was beginning to wonder if he had bitten off more then he could chew with this lioness. Still he wasn't one to retreat and he stayed where he was, watching her come closer. He hoped that didn't mean she was expecting him to stay with her for a long time if she did get her claws in him. He wasn't really interested in starting anything long term or getting too close to anyone after all.
"That would make you wise then, for that's often the only way to keep anything out here." Esche's voice continued to come out calm and even despite his inner worrying. That was one skill that usually did not fail him, unless of course he was caught completely off guard. His eyes watched Kusu's movements carefully and curiously, awaiting her next move.

Oh there would be no worry of Kusu hanging around for long afterward. Like other rogues, she also deeply enjoyed her freedom and would bristle at the hassle of being tied down to another feline. For her it was all more or less the game of messing with another emotions, and she seemed to be doing it well against the poor male. But that was too bad, he was the one bold enough to start such a scenario.
Calmly and with a tease to her step, the blue lioness stepped passed the male an used her tail fluff to swat at him. Then she glanced back with a crooked grin. "Well then, lets see if my claws are as good as my wisdom then, eh?" And with that she lopped off, leaving the male to decide between her or the small, forgotten meal.

As Kusu left, Esche glanced at the meal she forgot, and then the direction she went. He was surprised at how things had gone. It surprised him too that this lioness was abandoning her meal in favor of him. He sat and debated of just a moment. His instincts urged him to follow her, though emotionally he couldn't help but feel he was being toyed with a little.
Ultimately his mind ruled in favor of his instincts. This had been why he'd approached her in the first place hadn't it? Esche stood to all four paws and trotted off after her, curious and unknowing still where the evening would lead him.
