Chailai clung tightly to her mother's hand, wide green eyes taking in the whole of this large place. She'd never been somewhere this... dark. Or with this many people in it. Her tail flicked from side to side nervously and she stepped even closer to her mother, one hand lifting up to gently adjust the thin tiara that was sitting atop her waves of chocolate brown hair. Her ears flicked around to take in the noises of people talking at various volumes all around her before flicking back against her head, blocking out the large amount of noise unhappily.
"Mamaaa!" she whined softly, voice barely louder than a whisper as she tugged gently at the bottom of her mother's dress, eyes watery. "It is so loud! Home, s'il vou plait, Mama!"
One of the male's hands came down to pet her hair softly before Trois ducked down to look the girl in the eye, smiling gently and brushing her hair back. "Now, now, mon petit. It will be alright, I assure you. Zhere are very beautiful and exotique, jou will love zhem, I am sure. Alright?"
"If jou says so, Mama..." Chailai whispered quietly, getting off her tiptoes and scuffing her feet nervously on the floor as they started walking -and slithering- into the first and most docile part of the aquarium.

Devan was much less scared and a lot more amazed. He held onto his Uncle and glanced around eagerly. "Uncle Greg! Look!" The boy squealed excitedly as he pointed toward a girl. "A um... kid! Like me!"
"How do you keep spotting them?" The man asked searching the crowd in front of him. Sure enough there were a pair of long ears sticking up. "Must be the vantage point. Well, you know how I feel about it. Let's go say hi."
Devan smiled warmly. His Uncle was much more friendly then his mother. He pulled him over and quietly edged closer to the girl. He was so excited to see them but when he got close he got shy. "Hello." He said when his uncle encouraged him.

The section that the pair had just entered only contained simple, local creatures. There were toads and frogs and various kinds of fish that were native to the waters, probably the kind that fisherman caught. For once, Trois was actually getting into what the two of them were doing, reading some of the signs aloud to his daughter. She would bounce happily, ears perked up eagerly as they moved from one little cage to another. Neither of them were expecting... well, to be noticed directly at all.
Chailai squeaked in surprise, jumping to hide behind her mother, ears tipping back against her hair as she stared at the little pink-winged boy with wide eyes. Her tail flicked around a few times and she glanced around the hall, as though making sure it was safe to cross, and stepped out from her hiding place with a bit of a nudge from the tip of her mother's tail.
"Bonjour," she greeted quietly, tail waving behind her as her ears twitched, but didn't rise up from where they were. Slowly, her bushy tail raised up until she could wrap her small arms around it and hide her face in the tuft at the end of it, blushing softly beneath her speck-frecks as she gave a shy smile toward the other. "Je suis--" Trois nudged her again and she squeaked softly, blushing a bit brighter before she corrected herself with a small curtsy. "I am Chailai. What are jou called...?"

Devan hadn't meant to startle her and in turn jumped and held onto Gregory. He peered out from behind the short Spanish man's back. When she came forward he did the same when a gentle arm guided him forward. "Um....what's's.... bon-joure mean?" He asked sounding out the word in confusion.
Gregory who was focused on the weird sight of a half snake spotted his nephew was in trouble and leaned down. "It means hola." He responded with a chuckle.
"Oh, hello..." He murmered to himself. "OH! Hello! I'm um called Devan... um Chailai is a pretty name..." He offers, unsure.
"Speaking of pretty." Greg moves closer to the naga. Now that he's gotten over the fact she has a snake body, he finds the 'woman' rather attractive. At least enough to play around with. "Hola, una qué señora encantadora usted es." Its obviously something rather flattering if his expression is any clue.

Chailai watched the interaction between the two of them curiously, flicking one of her ears softly. When her name was complimented, she smiled a bit more and hid her face a bit further in the brown fluff at the end of her tail, blending in rather well with the brown flecks that covered her otherwise pale face.
Green eyes glanced away sheepishly and she gave a slight curtsy again. "Merci-- er, zhank you, Devan," she replied, her voice soft and quiet as it always was, eyes flicking back toward the older boy. "Ahm, so, jou are here to see... zhe, um... 'exotique' fish as well?" she asked, quoting her mother simply for lack of a better word to use. At least, a better word that was in her own young vocabulary.
Trois blushed almost immediately, pressing a hand gently to his very flat chest ( though that fact was hidden by the ruffles and other details of the dress that he'd picked out that day ). The tip of his tail flicked gently on the floor, hazel eyes flicking up to the other. He had to remind himself that he was already in a relationship but... his past infidelities added to the fact that his relationship was going downhill... it made it hard to pass up an opportunity at least to flirt. Though the male didn't know much Spanish, he'd been taught well enough to at least know some of it, and giggled coyly. "Merci, monsieur. Now tell me, what business to jou 'ave sweet-talking zhis young woman, hmm?"

Devan understood the concept of foreign language. His two uncles were both from Spain. But this one was new to him and he didn't know that much Spanish passed the 'hello' and 'bathroom'. He nodded slightly not sure what 'exotque' meant. He assumed 'exotic' but he couldn't be sure. "Um yah.... I'm here to see the fish!"
Gregory grinned slightly and took the 'woman's hand and gave it a kiss. "I don't know. It depends on what sweet talking gets me. Hopefully a few more words with a beautiful woman. Where you on the way to the deeper aquariums? Perhaps we could show our charges that way. I'll admit to never seeing someone of your particular..." His eyes flickered to the snake like body, "...nature."

Chailai giggled cutely, finally letting go of her tail, letting it flip behind her, where it stayed upright, swaying gently from side-to-side. Finally, she was starting to get comfortable around the other. Her ears slowly perked up as well, though they still didn't like the noise in the aquarium, and only lifted a bit.
"Oui! I am 'ere to see zhe fish, too," she replied sweetly, wiggling just a bit, looking up to where the man was getting close to her mother in a way that she wasn't very fond of. Pouting softly at the attention that she wanted being diverted by some stranger, she stretched her arms up. "Mama? Can we go into zhe rest of zhe place? Where zhe ozher fishes are?"
Trois flushed at the polite kiss to his hand, but was quick to avert his attention to his daughter, lest she end up upset at him again. She nodded a few times, pressing a soft kiss to the girl's speckled forehead. "Jes, my dear, we are going to go into zhe deeper parts of zhe aquarium soon.
"Sorry, Monsieur. Greed and abstinence; she seems to 'ave a taste for attention. At least, as far as we 'ave noticed," the corn snake explained, gesturing deeper into the aquarium and smiling softly. "A few more words are nozhing to spare, of course," he added simply as he headed toward the deeper parts of the place, wondering where this would lead. "My 'nature'? Oh, a naga? Or snake Eilian, more specific to myself, zhat is. We are few and far between, it would seem. My name is Trois, by-the-by. And jourself?"

The male spawn was having trouble understanding her accent. He managed to understand that she was here for the fish but otherwise he seemed lost. His tail wrapped around his Uncle's tail while he took the adult's hand. "I don't understand what they're saying." He complained with a frown. "Its like when you and Uncle Reggie speak in Spanish."
"Don't be rude, Devan." He gave a sheepish smile. "He's Envy and Patience. A naga? I can't say I've heard of such a thing. I've seen a lot of new things since I moved to this area. So, is there a Mr. Naga?" He asked with a boyish grin on his features.
He wasn't being rude! He really couldn't understand! He looked up at the female spawn. "Um... what kind of fish do you like?"

Chailai's face immediately went up in flames when the boy said that he couldn't understand what she was saying, green eyes filling with tears as she immediately hid against her mother once again, trembling softly. Stupid girl, not being able to talk normally...! Trying to make friends was a dumb idea!!
"Shh, shh, mon chere..." Trois murmured, lowering himself to the girl's level and wrapping his arms around the girl, petting her hair softly. He righted the little tiara that sat upon her head and tipped her tear-streaked face to look up at him, kissing both of her eyelids softly. "Do not fret so much, my dear. It is because jou are my dear and my princess, remember? And zhis way we 'ave a secret language, oui?"
"Oui, Mama..." Chailai murmured quietly, rubbing her balled up fists against her eyes and toddling back over to where Devan was standing, smiling a little bit, though now she was even more embarrassed about showing her face. When she spoke again, it was just as quietly as she always spoke, though she made sure to speak a bit slower, hoping that maybe she would be more understandable. "Sorry... zhat I am... 'ard to understand. It is because my Mama and I can speak French, so I am 'aving trouble speaking English as good as ozher kids. Sorry zhat I started crying..."
The question of fish made her perk up a little bit more, the tips of her ears rising up from her hair. "I dun'no. I don't know a lot of fish. What about jou?"
Trois scratched awkwardly at the back of his neck, feeling like a bit of a bother with the way that Chailai took his attention immediately, without even a second thought. Felt just like being at home. "Oui, a naga. At least, zhat is what I 'ave 'eard zhem being called around 'ere," he replied, blushing at the question and waving his hand dismissively. "No, zhere is not a 'Mister Naga'. Jou certainly seem more than a little interested in filling zhat position, zhough, jou flirt."
Well, what could he say...? Technically, Deux wasn't a naga, after all?

Devan never meant to make her cry! He looked absolutely horrified when she began to do so. He looked almost near tears himself. What had he done! "I didn't mean to make you cry!" He ignored her question about the fish to wrap his arms around her. "I'm sorry! I'll listen more carefully, OK? Just don't cry like that!"
Greg seemed oddly amused. Devan hardly ever shed a tear and clearly the idea of anyone else doing so was devastating to him. He chuckled and watched as he tried desperately to make amends. "Hm?" He glanced back at the naga next to him. "Well, I suppose I'd have to ask if you're taking applications." He said slyly.

Chailai squeaked when the boy's arms were suddenly around her, ears standing straight up and tail straightening out. She stiffened up from her head to her toes, not sure what the right way to react was, before relaxing slowly. Hesitantly, she stood on her tiptoes to wrap her arms around Devan's shoulders, the way that she gave hugs to her Mama, before letting go and standing again, a blush coming to her face once more, just beneath the purple gems on her cheeks.
"It is alright. Papa says zhat I cry all zhe time anyways," she replied quietly, tail wrapping around her so she could hug the tuft on the end of it like a stuffed animal once again. Yet she nodded in response to Devan's pleading. "Oui -um, zhat means 'yes' in French- I will try not to cry anymore, I promise! We should go see zhe ozher fish, oui?"
Trois smiled at the heartwarming scene between the children, chuckling softly and smiling at the other man. A slight smirk tugged at his lips, and he stuck his tongue out at the other tauntingly; a long, thin, slitted, snake's tongue. "Zhe position is only temporary. Jou are welcome to apply if jou are still interested, of course~"

Devan smiled down at her in a friendly manner. "Oh? You have a papa and a momma?" He asked pleasantly. "Oh.. Oui then." He responded holding out his hand for her to take.
Gregory seemed pleasantly surprised by the tongue. This was certainly a strange thing indeed. "Temporary? I could deal with that. What need to do to apply."

"Oui!" Chailai replied happily with a nod. When the hand was offered to her, she giggled and blushed slightly, hugging onto her tail a bit tighter. Slowly, she let go with one hand, placing it delicately in the palm of Devan's, holding onto it lightly, though she still clutched the tip of her tail in the other hand. Tugging gently, she started walking with him deeper into the aquarium, the guardians assumed to be following behind. "Papa does not like me, zhough. 'E tells Mama 'take 'er back, I dun want her 'ere, rawr!' and zhey fight a lot. But 'e is still my Papa... I zhink. Do jou 'ave a Mama and Papa?"
"Well zhat's good," Trois said, gesturing the other to follow as he started slithering behind the adventurous children, chuckling softly. "Oh, nozhing specific springs to mind. Just hit me wizh jour best shot, oui?"

Devan took hold of it like an older brother might and began to lead her. "That's terrible... I only have a mom... that's my Uncle. My dad is Hyacinth. He's Patience...but I never got to meet him."
"My best shot? I'm afraid I can't do that in front of the children." The man said with a boyish grin.

"Oooh. I do not 'ave an uncle. I 'ave a brozher and sister, zhough," Chailai replied with a nod, though she seemed entranced by the idea that one of Devan's parents was one of the virtues. After all, her Mama worked there, so she did know at least a little bit about the genetics that made up all of the kids. Her ears twitched slightly and she smiled a bit, finally getting rid of the awed stare. "Zhat is so cool... jou are so lucky!!"
Blushing brightly, Trois gently elbowed the man in the ribs, shaking his head. "Zhen jou will 'ave to try jour darndest anyway, won't jou?" the serpent taunted, giggling a bit and shaking his head. This was going to be an interesting afternoon, that was for sure.
