Pippin was thrilled, after a terrible week's wait his mother had finally brought him back to his most favored place in the entire town; the library. He had finished the books he had previously checked out fairly early, causing a long week of rereading things since Celi was always so busy.
"Do you need me for anything dear? Or do you want to look for books yourself? I can come with if you want!" his mother questioned him. She was always supportive, but never wanted to seem like she was crowding him or smothering her only son with too much attention. After all, he was a quiet boy who normally kept to himself, with a certain amount of independence, so she figured it was time to start offering him some freedoms (especially since she could still be close by).
After a few seconds of thought Pippin looked up at his mother, "I'll be okay mother, you can go sit down. I know ya don't like the library that much." The boy's mother was more of a social person than a reading one, and he knew that quite well.
With a blush the woman nodded, taking a few steps back to a table where she could still keep an eye on her young boy.
In the meantime, Pippin began to immerse himself in the books, looking over the shelves with a surprising amount of interest for someone of his age. He smiled softly, his headwings fluttering with joy as he browsed the shelves filled with his favorite hobby.

Devan was being carefully chaperoned by his uncle. The taller brownish-blond haired man steered him through books shevles pointing out all the different types. His mother might hate reading but he wasn't going to let the boy go uneducated. The boy stopped paying attention when he spotted something rather odd...and rather cute for that matter.
He looked up at his uncle who sighed and gave him the go ahead. With a smile the boy fluttered his wings and moved over to the other. He started off slowly, pretending to study the books next to him. Devan gave a smile as he fluttered his wings, eying the boy's headwings with interest. "Hi..." He said after a moment, "I'm Devan."

Being so engrossed in the books surrounding him Pippin hadn't been expecting anyone to approach him, so when the other spoke to him he was rather surprised and turned towards him quickly, "Oh, hello!" he said, the surprise showing through in his voice. It took him a minute to realize he should probably say his own name as well, and after a short pause he finally added, M-my name is Pippin." he said with a light flush on his cheeks.
His headwings pulled towards him, going for their natural reaction of covering the boy's eyes but he resisted it, "Um... are you lookin' for a book too?" he asked, curious if the other needed help. Pippin wasn't that old, but he could sure try to help the other to find a book if he needed it.

Devan smiled at him and found himself giving a small smile. He liked the boy's glasses and his wings. "Pippin...I like that name." The boy responded giving a small giggle.
He watched the boy's wings and lifted his own. He gave them a few flaps to draw attention to them. "Um... No... kinda. I"m new to reading. So my Uncle is teaching me about all the different kinds. I'm learning how to read. You're like me. So I thought I'd say hi..."

Pippin's cheeks flushed harder at the compliment, he wasn't use to such nice words from another kid like him. "Thanks, I like yours too." he said softly, drawing circles with the tip of his toes in the library floor.
Seeing the other flap his wings he gave a slight grin, "You are like me, we've both got wings and stuff. 'Cept yours aren't on your head." he said, laughing nervously when he realized that he just stated the obvious. In an attempt to change the subject he spoke again, "So, you're learning to read? I can try and help, I mean, I read books a lot, I like it, so if you want help, but if you don't that's fine too..." he was stumbling over his own words, and he blushed once more feeling foolish of himself, as he stayed quiet in hopes that the other would even talk to him after he was making such a fool of himself.

"Yah. I see a lot of people with head wings! Its neat. Can you fly?" He flushed slightly feeling a bit put out he couldn't read. Apparently lots of kids liked it. He edged closer to peer at the book Pippin had. "That'd be nice. My mom doesn't like to read. I'd really like your help. Readin's kinda hard for me."
Much to his embarrassment his tail wrapped around the other boy's leg. "S-sorry. It likes to do that to people." He said trying to pull it off. Usually he didn't mind but this boy was much more timid then any other he'd met.

The boy looked down at the ground, slightly ashamed, "Well, not yet, but someday I'll be able to I hope..." He always felt slightly ashamed the he couldn't fly yet, he felt like he should be able to but was just too scared. Though trying not to think about it he switched to the other topic the boy had spoken about. "Okay, after we look for books 'nd stuff I can get my phone number from mother and give it to you." he proposed before jumping slightly.
It seemed the other boy's tail had taken a liking to Pippin's leg, it startled him at first, but then the young boy began to giggle, "Hey! That's my leg!" he said with a smile, petting the other's tail lightly. "It's fine, I don't mind." he said timidly, still giggling slightly.

"Don't worry I can't fly either." He said patting the boy on the back gently. He did grin and nodded. "Yah! My uncle can give you ours! Then we can play again whenever we want!" This seemed like a great idea.
The tail squeezed when pet and Devan flushed slightly. "Really? Thanks... I can't really control it. Uhm so... what are your favorite books?" He asked curiously.

"R... Really?" It was comforting to know that he wasn't the only one his age that couldn't fly. Not that he had met many others his age that could fly, but he still felt like he should be able to do such a thing since his wings were so large and everything. At the idea of the number exchange the boy nodded, smiling with his whole face rather than just his mouth.
Still giggling at the tail, Pippin pet it once more. It was strange, how some spawn had appendages that they couldn't control. He could control his headwings, so the idea was so foreign to him. "Is it weird? Not being able to control it?" he asked quietly, hoping not to offend Devan.
"Oh, my favorite books? I don't have favorites, I like all kinds of books." he admitted shyly, twiddling his fingers together. "We can look for one we'll both like together though if ya want."

"Yah... I never tried before though." He looked back at the wings and gave them an odd look. "I don't know that I can. I can disappear if I stay still too long though!" He said proudly.
Devan shrugged slightly as the tail flinched again. It made him giggle. He didn't know his tail was ticklish. "Kind of... It does things I don't want it to sometimes. But one of my friends he had these um tentacles and they would do all sorts of bad stuff. Sometimes they were even mean! My tail is just friendly!"
The boy smiled, "Yah! We'll find a fun book to read! My Uncle says you can escape to far away places in books!"

Pippin thought for a moment, he hadn't ever really tried either, so maybe he would be able to (semi) easily master flight some day. However, his attention shifted completely at the spawn's other comment, "Wait... you can be invisible??" he said, the amazement in his voice showing through as his mouth was left open a bit. That was crazy, he had never met anyone who could do that!
After hearing about the tail Pippin nodded, "My headwings don't do stuff like that, they just do what I tell 'em too." he said, shielding his face with one as he poked an eye between the feathers to look at the other with a smile and giggle.
He nodded once more, fully agreeing with the other boy's uncle, you really could get lost in books, they could teach you so much without even having to leave your home! "Well, what kinda stuff d'you like?" he asked, trying to get an idea of what a good book for Devan might be.

"Yah it... kinda happens if I sit still too long in the shadows." He responded looking kind of ashamed at it. "It drives my mom crazy."
The boy giggled and reached out to pet one before his fingers touched the glasses. He squinted at them. "How come you got glass on your face?" He asked tilting his head.
He blinked at the last question. "Um all kind of stuff, I guess. I like cooking cause you can wait for it to cook and I saw a pirate on TV once in a movie an that was cool. Um... I like to learn!"

"That's so cool! I can't do anything like that!" Pippin said with a slight laugh. On one hand, he did wish he could perform such acts but on the other he was at least happy that the other boy could do such a cool thing.
At the next topic Pippin's cheeks lit up a fiery red, "Oh, well, ya see. those are my glasses." he said, pressing them up with one finger. He had always been ashamed of his glasses, feeling "nerdy" in them. "I can't see so well, so they make sure I don't bump into stuff and I can see clearly." he explained. "I'm blind as a bat without 'em."
"Well, I don't think we'll find a book on cooking unless ya wanna make stuff, cause they do have cookbooks an' all. But I know there's lots of books about pirates if you wanna look at those!" Pip's headwings shuddered with joy at the mere idea of learning. He had always been an intellectual individual, so finding someone the same way was beyond exciting. "Really!? Me too! I love learning!" he exclaimed, ecstatic.

"Really? It bugs momma cause sometimes she can't find me." He touched the glasses again with his finger. "Wow! That must be neat! " He stared. He didn't know what a bat was but being blind must be horrible! "I like them! They make your eyes bigger an prettier!"
"Sure! Pirates are lots of fun! I bet the stories are even more funner then TV!" He giggled at the boy's sudden enthusiasm. "Hey! We like a lotta the same stuff! We can be best friends! OK? Maybe we can do a lotta reading together!"

"Yeah, I think it's neat. I mean, I bet it'll be a little fwustrating the first time I lose you, but it's still neat." he said with a light laugh as he looked at the other boy with a smile. He was rather shocked at the glasses comment though, "R... Really? Lots of people think they're dorky. Thanks!" he said, rather excited by the fact that he wasn't just some nerd to Devan.
"Here, here's a book with pirates in it." he said, pulling out a small, Disney version of Peter Pan as he saw there were two copies. "Yeah, sure we can! We do have lots in common, so yeah!" he added excitedly, "Here, wanna start with this?"
