Lucas never drank with the intent to be drunk, primarily because, with his tolerance, it took such a massive amount of effort to achieve such a state. For once, however, he was willing to make that effort. Having located the strongest spirits available - and, as was to be expected, the criminal organization was quite well-stocked - he had seated himself on a stool in one of the further back areas of the recreational facilities, near the small kitchen area. He leaned backwards against one of the island counters, resting an elbow against it, and supported a glass in his opposite hand. Its contents looked, smelled, and tasted every bit like harmless apple juice, but the subtle burning sensation it evoked betrayed a more sinister element.

Unfortunately for Lucas (or perhaps it was fortunately?) he wasn't to be the only one in the rec room that evening. The handle suddenly wiggled a bit and was still. Then it jiggled down a bit and a light thud sounded outside the door. Finally it clicked all the way down and the door opened a crack, and a slightly louder thump was heard. Zeus, having accomplished the nigh-impossible feat of jumping high enough to open the door for himself, immediately darted through the crack in the door and into the room. Except it wasn't open only slightly anymore - his wide berth had bumped it and it was now halfway open.

His trainer followed him in with a slight sigh and closed the door behind her. She frowned as he bounced up and down in front of the tv, frustrated with how impatient he was. "Alright, alright, let me just find... huh?" Her impatient Pikachu had suddenly stopped, ears perking up as he sensed someone else in the room. There was the smell of something... something, and it smelled intriguing - something that might possibly be edible but since it wasn't chocolate, he wasn't sure.

Intent on finding the source of this smell that completely escaped his human at such a distance, he bounded off towards the back of the facilities. Suddenly it opened off to a small kitchen area that he'd never seen before - apparently it was blocked from view or something when he was by the door or tv - and there was that guy his human always talked to. Zeus plopped down on the floor and turned to look at Claire, who had stopped right behind him and completely forgot about him upon seeing the scar-faced man. "Hello Lucas," she said with a smile - a curious smile that was slowly getting slightly concerned. What was he drinking, and why was he hiding in the back by himself? For some reason, he didn't look like the normally happy, goofy Lucas he usually was.

He had a partially unimpeded view of the door from his seat, and he watched the door with a mild intrigue when the handle wiggled and depressed, the tall barrier swinging open. He couldn't make out the Pikachu that scurried in, but he caught enough of a glance of Claire to bring a momentary frown to his face. Company wasn't high on his list of priorities at the time. In fact, it was damn near the bottom. Perhaps if he just sat quietly he would go unnoticed--

"Damn it, Zeus." His words were a quiet mutter but were no less sincere for it. As expected, the Pikachu's approach was followed shortly by that of his human, and Lucas was obligated to greet her with at least some degree of civility. "Evening, Claire," he responded with a slight nod, an uncharacteristically languid smile replacing his usual bright grin.

Zeus' ears twitched at the mutter, but other than that he didn't do anything in particular in response.

Her expression depressed into a concerned frown as she pulled out a stool to sit next to him. His attitude wasn't at all normal and, frankly, it was quite disconcerting. "What are you doing over here all alone?" She said cautiously, not sure about what was going on. Maybe something was bothering him? The only other time she'd seen him without his usually good mood was when they exchanged stories, and she'd cried - and he freaked out when she gave him a hug. She'd never employ that comfort tactic again.

"Why do you say it like that?" he said with a laugh. "You know, I spend most of my time by myself. It's not really that unusual." His tone remained friendly and nonchalant, though his expression failed to match it. It wasn't as though he was lying, though - Lucas had been making a conscious effort for nearly ten years to maintain a comfortable distance from every individual he encountered. The ice in his momentarily forgotten beverage shifted as it slowly melted from the heat of his hand.

That was true, she supposed... But she was still concerned. Even if his tone was normal, his face wasn't, and she had every intention of finding out why. With this thought in mind she shrugged and replied, "I suppose not." She turned in her stool to face the small kitchen, studying it with little interest. "I never noticed this was here before.. but then again I don't really come in here too often," she remarked. No, she was usually far too busy with work or training herself or her pokemon, and what leisure time she did have she usually spent in her bedroom with a certain musical instrument that was currently hidden in her closet. As long as Len wasn't around, that is.

"Anything interesting happen today?" The young woman asked casually, violet eyes snapping to the base of her stool as she felt a bump at it - caused by Zeus, who had decided he didn't want to sit by himself several feet away, so he'd gotten up and plopped down on the floor next to her stool. He looked up, blinking bright green eyes at her and announced a firm "chu" to remind her he was still there and still wanted to play his game, but he realized something was quite off so he refrained from throwing a fit.

"No? I came back here the last time to fix those drinks you kept insisting you wanted," he said with something of a sarcastic bite of humor to his words. "I guess it's pretty well shoved into a corner, though, so it's understandable that you overlooked it." It was exactly that quality that Lucas liked about the little island of counters and exactly the reason he had chosen them for his temporary retreat.

"Anything interesting?" He gave a long, thoughtful hum as he ran through the day's events. "...Nothing in particular, I don't think. Started doing some work on designs for the weapons division, but that's not really anything exciting." He raised the glass to his lips and sipped at his drink casually.

Her gaze had lifted to focus on the cabinets across from them, her chin in the palm of her hand, and her elbow as well as her other arm resting on the smooth surface of the counter in front of her. Her expression faltered at the mention of the drinks from before, and the way he had said it - no, something was definitely wrong. That comment alone made her almost question herself on if she should stay or not, but she would stay regardless until she figured out what the hell was going on. "What are you drinking?" She asked the handle on the fridge, her tone curious to hide the suspicions. Alcohol, probably...

"Nothing you want a taste of, that's for sure." In other words, very much alcohol. "Only barely want to drink it myself, to tell the truth. It's kind of gross. But oh well." He drew another sip from the glass, features remaining unchangingly dim. He sat in a momentary silence until a thought - a recollection of a statement Isadora had made earlier - returned to him.

"You'd get over it if I died, right?" Rather than seeking an opinion, his tone implied that he was expecting assertion to a fact. Inhibitions were slowly slipping out through the window, dragging tact kicking and screaming along after them.

If Claire was the type of person to mutter under their breath, she would have muttered "I knew it" in typical muttering fashion - but she wasn't, so she didn't. She thought it though, and she pursed her lips at his tone of voice. He was probably drunk - and while she apparently was ridiculously giggly and just.. ridiculous, Lucas didn't seem to be anywhere near as pleasant as he normally was.

His question completely and utterly derailed her train of thought, slid it off a 200ft cliff to the bottom of a canyon in her mind where it exploded and every inch of it burst into flame. She stared at him, lips parted slightly in disbelief before her expression immediately changed into a very disapproving frown, almost angry or at the very least, upset. "What the hell kind of question is that?" And more importantly, why had he even asked? Why was he here getting himself drunk? An answer to those questions - the only plausible answer - slowly formed in her mind, and she lowered her other arm to the counter to pose the suggested answer with a question of her own, her tone a little quieter. "What did you remember?"

"What the hell kind of answer is that?" he quipped, scarcely missing a beat. "How about answering my question before asking your own?" A slight irritation emerged in his words, his eyes locked on the glass in his hand.

No, Lucas wasn't a very pleasant drunk at all. At least not at the moment - but the current moment was the only one that mattered for the time being. "How the hell do you expect me to answer a question like that, Lucas?" She replied through partially gritted teeth - she was making a conscious effort to avoid it but the irritated tone, so subtle in his own, was quite apparent in hers. "And why would you even ask that? What the hell happened to make you even start thinking about this?" Before she wasn't sure if she wanted to look at him or not, but now her violet eyes were locked on his face, her expression clearly indignant but traces of concern and possibly even a dash of fear were also present.

With a sigh, he set his glass on the counter and turned to face her fully. "Let's try and visualize this more clearly, shall we?" Two fingers and a thumb extended in the traditional gesture of an imaginary gun, Lucas raised his still-bruised hand to his head and pressed the impromptu 'barrel' against his temple. "Bang. I'm dead. How do you react?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 3:59 pm

During his short demonstration and blunt words, she watched with narrowed eyes. Had his 'gun' been real, she would have reacted differently - but as it was, it was simply his hand and therefore unable to really go 'bang,' so she remained calm. For now. She quickly took note of the bruising on his hand and, judging from the placement of said bruising, it seemed most likely he'd punched something. Probably a wall. Why were men so ridiculous sometimes?

However, unfortunately for Lucas, she would not give him the satisfaction of an answer to his question. "You're drunk," she stated bluntly, folding her arms across her chest as she turned in her stool to face him more fully. "And I want to know why. What the hell did you remember?" Obviously it was nothing good - but nothing absolutely horribly bad, considering he was still here, which therefore meant it couldn't be Morrison and that was a small comfort. A little chill ran down her spine as a small thought defiantly traipsed through her mind and reminded her that he very well could remember that bit of information at any time. She really hoped he wouldn't.

"I just want to know your answer, Claire," he entreated, spreading his hands earnestly. "It's not that hard a question, right? You wanna try visualizing with a real gun? I could go get one." He continued to ignore any words that weren't the ones he sought. He knew he was drunk, though only barely so. Just enough to take the innate kindness from his disposition, though not nearly enough to lull him into compliance.
