A flock of Pidgey alighted from a nearby tree, spiraling into the air after being disturbed by the lumbering approach of a Metagross. Its metallic footfalls, though muted by the earthen floor, were enough to turn the heads of those more closely attuned to the sounds of the Cypress Forest, and many of the wild pokemon shied away from the path.

The Metagross, however, was no threat. At the moment, Pitre was little more than transportation for the girl perched on the flat surface of its body. She dressed the part of the trainer rather than that of the Rocket, a teal blouse and dark skirt comprising her outfit and a ribbon fluttering from her bound hair.

Aila enjoyed the forest scenery, noting the various trees and flowers. Her goal for the time being was Lake Elemi; she had a particular want to see how the night sky reflected in its calm waters. The Cypress Forest proper, though, was nothing less of a marvel - she only wished that Pitre's steps weren't so intrusively heavy...

Not too far from the pair was a lone Meganium. Well, she looked alone, but her trainer was, in fact, very close by. She had been laying in the grass, partially upside-down, when heavy footfalls floated over to her. Perking up at the sound of impending strangers, her legs flailed a bit before she managed to roll onto her side, and from there hoisted herself onto all fours. Gold eyes scanned the forest but it didn't take long for them to lock onto their target - a cute girl human and a.. a thing!! She had no idea what type of thing it was, but it was big and it was a thing. A Big Thing. With a cute girl on top!

With those thoughts in mind she craned her neck up to look into the tree she'd been lying under, catching sight of her human's leg dangling from a thick branch. He'd been up there for an awfully long time - perhaps he'd fallen asleep? Oh dear. "Niuuu," she cooed, trying to get his attention, but when he didn't respond she repeated herself, louder and more emphatically. "Niuuu!"

Still nothing.

With a huff, antennae twitching in mild annoyance, she considered her options. She didn't have many - she absolutely had to get him to wake up to meet this girl and her pokemon. Maybe he'd wake up in a minute, all on his own? Perhaps. So, with this thought in mind, her mood changed to gleeful excitement as she bounded over towards the cute girl and the Big Thing, greeting them with a happy "niuurrr!" when she was close enough.

She caught sight of what appeared to be a Meganium rolling to its feet a short ways into the distance, turning her head slightly at its increasingly urgent exclamation. Pitre regarded the fleshy thing with a mild interest as well. It looked like it was a horribly inconvenient shape and consistency for, say, throwing itself through windows or other equally precarious stunts. But then Pitre watched too many action flicks, so its standards were quite skewed.

And then the creature - now quite obviously a Meganium, though its coloration was slightly different - was approaching her. She looked down from her perch, slightly elevated as she was by the Metagross's own height, and inclined her head slightly. She offered a greeting hand for the grass-type to inspect at its leisure, passingly wondering if the thing had a trainer.

Leilani came to a screeching halt (nearly stumbling over in the process) in front of Big Thing and Cute Girl, and felt the need to unabashedly inspect both. Shoving her face quite close to the Big Thing's face, she began to sniff at it and its front legs - she would have done the same to the Cute Girl had she been on the ground, but as she wasn't Leilani settled for just her hand. It seemed this Meganium had never heard the phrase "personal space" before in her life. The aforementioned offered appendage was sniffed as well before she cooed another "niuuu!" and proceeded to nuzzle her head into the hand quite happily. Inigo had all but disappeared from her thoughts for the moment, her one-track mind only able to focus on Big Thing and Cute Girl - which were, respectively, much bigger and much cuter close up, or so she'd decided.

"Ta," Pitre grunted dismissively at the plant thing in its face. It reminded the Metagross somewhat of a game it had once played. Not a very good game, retrospectively.

A faint smile pulled at her lips as the Meganium moved its head into her palm. As affectionate and charismatic as it was, she couldn't imagine the thing being wild. "Where's your trainer?" she asked, her voice quiet. The grass-type reminded her of her own Fleur, and her expression warmed accordingly.

Leilani ignored Big Thing for now, as he wasn't paying her attention like Cute Girl was. At the word trainer, her antennae twitched and her expression changed, her mouth forming a surprised 'o' as she realized that Inigo wasn't there yet. She craned her neck around to look - nope, definitely not awake, so she turned back to Cute Girl and uttered an encouraging "ganiuurr" before turning and loping back towards the tree, hoping she would follow.

Upon arriving beneath Inigo's perch, golden eyes peered up through the branches at him. His leg was too high up for her to reach, so she had no other options but to try and wake him up without being able to yank him down. "Niuuu!" She called, but again that yielded no results besides a light snore floating down from the tree. Another indignant huff escaped her before she suddenly realized something, something she could do. Suddenly the Meganium grinned and pranced closer to the tree, placing her front feet on either side of the trunk and slightly in front of it, then she reared back onto her hind legs. Her front legs flailed a bit before they came crashing down into the earth, and a mild Earthquake erupted around the base of the tree. It was mostly harmless and wouldn't affect much else besides that specific tree and her intended victim.

Said intended victim awoke to everything shaking, managing to process the fact that he was falling off the branch - no, falling through the ai--thud. A muffled "ow..." floated up from amidst the thick bush that had more or less broke his fall, before a myriad of Spanish expletives also floated up from the densely-packed foliage. He had yet to notice what Leilani had internally dubbed Big Thing or Cute Girl, as he flailed around in the bush in an attempt to free himself from its prickly clutches. "Hijo de puta! Leilani! Qué estabas pensando? Que era más... oh." The flow of Spanish stopped as he stood up, still half-stuck in the bush, his green eyes locked on the girl atop a.. What was that? Some sort of ...thing. That paled in comparison to the fact he already looked like an idiot in front of a cute girl and whatever she was riding, so he offered a sheepish, lop-sided grin as he freed his other leg from the bush. "Uh, hello.. Sorry about that, I was.. uh.. sleeping.. in the tree..." Way to go - make yourself look even more dumb. Tonto.

Leilani seemed completely unfazed by her trainer's fall and also by his string of Spanish curses, and she nuzzled his chest affectionately before bounding back to Aila. There, that was where her trainer was! The Meganium looked thoroughly pleased with herself.

At Aila's encouragement, Pitre followed behind the departing Meganium, slowing to a halt as the grass-type did. She gazed up into the branches and found what she assumed was the trainer she had asked about, cradled in the crook of the branches. He wasn't there for much longer, though, as a small Earthquake rocked him loose and sent the poor man plummeting into the bushes below. Aila watched the display with an expression of mild surprise. Well, that was one way to make an entrance. The surprise on her features became much more obvious when he began to speak words that were wholly alien. It had been ages since she had last been faced with such completely unfamiliar language. She found soon enough that she could suddenly understand his words, though, and so she pushed the thoughts from her mind.

"Down," she murmured, and the Metagross responded in kind, lighting on the earth to decrease the distance Aila needed to close to move her feet from the air to the ground. "Need a hand?" she offered, extending said hand with something of an amused smile.

He passed a hand over his head, running his fingers through thick black hair before pushing himself up onto his knees, acutely aware of how utterly ridiculous he'd looked just then. Not that it should have been any surprise to him - looking ridiculous in front of people had become something of a usual happenstance by now. "Aha, I was.. thanks," he finished, hesitantly taking the offered hand. He didn't want to rely on her to pull him up - mostly because he figured he would inadvertently yank her down to the ground instead of managing to stand - so he politely held her hand and allowed her to help him up, even if he didn't exactly need it. It would be rude to brush off the offers of help from such a pretty girl. And she didn't look incredibly young, like the last one he'd run into. Her naive demeanor and obsession with pink severely downplayed her age, to the point where he thought she was probably 12 or 13. Whoops.

He caught himself thinking too much so he cleared his throat abruptly, running his hand through his hair again before the lop-sided grin again found its way onto his face. "Anyway, I guess you met Leilani --" a gleeful 'niuuu!' interrupted his introductions, "-- anyway," he said, giving the Meganium a look to show his displeasure at her decision to knock him out of the tree, a look which she wholly ignored. "My name," he began, with a half-bow and dramatic, ridiculous flourish of his arms, "is Ignacio Reyes Vizzini. But you can call me Inigo," he added as he straightened himself, shoving one hand in his pocket and the other to rub the back of his neck. Man, why did he insist on looking utterly ridiculous? Tonto. "What's your name?"

Though her injuries hadn't been irritated in some time, it was probably a good thing that Inigo didn't rely too heavily on her assistance. She was, after all, still on medical leave, and unfit to work generally meant unfit to traipse about in a forest. Pitre made traveling easy, though, and she had thus far been able to get by without any significant strain.

She acknowledged the Meganium when it was properly introduced - Leilani, it was a pretty name - and maintained the slight amusement on her features in response to his bravado. "Well, a pleasure to meet you, Inigo," she said. Matching him, she introduced herself with the posturing of a full curtsy, "My name is Aila Christelle de Valois," Arceus, what was she doing giving her full name to a stranger? Perhaps she was a little to quick to fill a role, "but Aila is enough, of course." She gestured towards the Metagross. "This is Pitre. He's not as personable as Leilani, I'm afraid."

"Meta." The forest wasn't exactly a WiFi hotspot, and Pitre was quite grumpy as a result.

He couldn't help but chuckle at her own introduction, mentally acknowledging the fact he'd been thoroughly shown up by a display of grace and a name fancy enough to pull off such grandeur. No surprise there. "Una nombre bonita." He couldn't help the comment, and Leilani cooed at the last word - one of the ones she recognized - and pranced over to nuzzle at Aila's shoulder. "But, Aila it is - I'd butcher the rest for sure if I tried to say it." And he had no intentions of butchering such a pretty name. Maybe if it was some ridiculous name, he'd have no qualms butchering it, accidentally or otherwise, but Aila's name sounded... sounded.. "Is it French?" It wasn't Spanish or English, that was for sure, and he'd heard enough of the major languages to know the differences in sounds.

"Ah - Pitre," he repeated, glad that it was much easier than her name. The lop-sided grin returned as he chuckled. "Yeah, I don't know many that are like Leilani. She gets excited a lot, especially with girls. I don't know why she does, but she just... does." The tone he ended with sounded a bit confused and mildly exasperated, as if explaining that children acted the way they did because they were children. They were what they were, and that was that - there was no other explanation.

Una nomb-- What was that? At least one of the words sounded vaguely familiar, nomb-whatsit resembling her nom - name. She recoiled instinctively at Leilani's approach, protecting her still tender shoulder and upper arm. She stopped herself, though, worrying that too full a withdrawal would offend the Meganium. "Yes," she said, nodding approvingly. "French. Speaking of that, actually, that language you've been using, what exactly..." A faint redness colored her face. It seemed uncouth that he should be able to identify the etymology based only on the sound of the name when she couldn't do as much even though he had spoken so much more of it.

"I know a certain Venusaur that behaves quite similarly," she supplied, reaching a calming hand to stroke the excited grass-type's head. "The friendly type is quite preferable to the mischievous type or the antisocial type, I must say." It was a wonder half her team cooperated with her at all.

Leilani didn't seem to notice Cute Girl's recoil and instead gleefully nuzzled into the offered hand again. Inigo didn't seem to notice either - or if he did, he chose not to comment on it. Either was entirely possible. "Ah, do you? Yeah, I'd have to agree - my sister's Espeon is mostly antisocial. Until he wants attention, that is. Irritante.."

Ah, but she didn't know Spanish - odd, since the high school and even the University all taught the major languages, Spanish and French included as well as German and a few others, which made identifying hers relatively easy. Aww, she was blushing a little bit.. cute. "Ah, just Spanish," he said with his trademark grin, waving a hand in a mildly dismissive manner, as if to just brush it off. "I'm Spanish by birth, but I was adopted when I was younger and my parents-" by which he meant his adoptive parents "- don't speak Spanish, so I've been trying to resolve this blasphemous and egregious error by taking Spanish classes in high school and at the PokeUniversity," he explained, not sure if he should continue with his random bits of Spanish or not - though habits were always hard to break, so he wasn't sure how effectively he could quell the bilingual outburts.

Spanish, was it? She'd heard of it, of course, but she couldn't recall ever having heard the spoken language before, especially not in the same breath as the language's name. "Spanish... I see. I've never heard anyone speak it before." It had an interesting sound, as well. She toyed with the idea of adding it to her studies; there was always the chance that it might prove useful to disguised infiltration. "Is it very difficult? The last time I learned a language, I was still very young and was able to pick it up easily." The prospect of learning a whole language had always struck as quite the harrowing task. She was still amazed, from time to time, that she was able to speak English in its entirety. She had been speaking it for most of her life, though, so there was little place for any real amazement.

Never - not once? What school did this girl go to? He'd heard enough bits and pieces of the other major languages taught at the schools to be able to vaguely differentiate between them and therefore could usually tell which one was which. "Really? Where did you go to school? I thought they taught languages in all the high schools.." Why wouldn't they? Huh.

"Was it hard to learn? Ah, well.." His hand instinctively reached up to run it through his hair again, trying to think. "Well, it was all I spoke until I was four or five, and then all I heard was just English, so I guess it was easier for me to pick it up again in high school," he explained with a shrug, trying to remember. "So it really wasn't too hard for me, but then again I tried to study hard and really learn it instead of just take it to get the grade. Overall I don't think it's too bad to learn, no. I heard lots of other kids in high school say it was the easiest to learn - not sure if that's true or not, but it wasn't too hard." How helpful that was..

She tucked her chin down, raising her gaze to keep eye contact, as embarrassing an admission as it was, "I didn't. I learned from my mother and from studying on my own." As a result, she was knowledgeable in a number of specialized areas and knew enough of the basics to get by, but the feeling that she had missed out on something essential persisted, especially since it seemed Spanish was a thing she definitely should have recognized.

"That's how old I was when I learned English too," she said with something of a nostalgic smile. "Mother refused to learn, though, so we always spoke in French." There was a long period after her mother's death where she had stopped practicing French conversationally, but the instinct of the language remained. As he spoke of his experience with Spanish, she came upon a resolve to learn it for herself. Classes were essentially out of the question, but she was confident in her study skills. "I think I'll try and pick it up," she said, nodding. If it was a thing that she should have learned from school, that was all the more reason to carry through on that thought.
