The mid-afternoon sun blazed above the valley. The animals were enjoying the rare warm day in the winter and everything was going about normally. In the forest to the east, a star furred fox was running. There was a pool of water in the valley and he was heading towards it.
For once, Bruiser was light on his feet. His ears back as he raced his shadow to the water. To him it was summer, especially with the nights being so clear and the water called to him this day. His coloring let him race by mostly unnoticed by those he would normally hunt, in the shadowy parts of the forest.

Kenna lounged by the water, studying the ripples and the occasional fish that appeared to look for food and enjoy the warmth before predators showed up, predators such as the hawk that circled overhead. She had been there for hours appreciating life and what the day had to offer her already before she, by chance, caught a sign of some unnatural movement from her peripheral vision.
She sat up and followed the motion closely, only to see a beautiful creature colored like the night sky on a new moon. She watched him running, how the motion affected his flawlessly wondrous fur, fully captivated. He seemed to be headed toward the water, though a ways from her, and he hadn't seemed to notice he had company. Once he was within ear shot she spoke, not one to yell, it was barely more than her normal tone.
"Hello there." A small smile seemed to be a permanent feature and certainly assisted in appearing friendly.

Bruiser skidded to a stop, front legs splayed to keep him upright. His ear twitched in the direction of the voice. "Hello," his tail waved in the air. "Beautiful day today, isn't it?"
He looked closer towards where he heard the voice. The fur he saw blended well together and he thought she looked like a female deer, at first.

Kenna's didn't flinch as he skidded to a half and her half-lidded green eyes followed his tail as it wagged in the air before she settled on eye contact. "It's positively euphoric." She agreed with his assessment.
"You seemed like you were in quite a hurry, what could possibly be so important as to miss the world as it goes by." She cocked her head to the side, eyes wandering across the stars in his pelt, but not in an immodest manner. It was more curiosity and acknowledgment of beauty.

His eyes turned to the water that was so close at paw. "Water! Swimming." Bruiser turned back to the vixen. "Do I have something on my fur? I thought I cleaned it all from the last time."
He turned to look at his fur on his back leg, it seems to be the dirtiest no matter how hard he tries to stay clean. Nothing seemed to be there that would be dirt. The starry fox saw how close he was to the water and stuck a paw into it. "Ahhhh! That is so refreshing." His body started to relax as that little bit of water cooled him down. A smile crossed his face as he remembered his manners, "Bruiser. What's your name?"

Kenna watched the uniquely colored fox twitch about with energy - it only served to make his coat gleam in the most interesting way. Despite her lack of eye contact she heard and responded, "I am called Kenna, though I'm not too picky in regards to what others choose to call me."
She glanced at the water, "Swimming! What a wonderful idea!" Without another word she took a leap into the water as though she were pouncing invisible prey. Despite her lithe form she managed to create quite a splash, soaking the other fox. The water was shallow where she had landed, head and shoulders above water she shook droplets from her ears and peered at Bruiser.
"We might find sparklies!"

Bruiser nodded in greeting. "Pleasure to meet you Kenna." His eyes moved back to the water and his tail twitched in anticipation.
His eyes widen as the vixen play pounced into the water. The water dripped off his fur. A smile spread along his face, teeth showing. "I don't know about sparklies, but I am gonna get you now." The male charged into the water, sending water out along his body as he raced next to her. His laughter bubbled out of him as he ran.

Kenna's dreamy laugh matched his as she dove away from him, eyes slightly more open than their usual half lidded state. She somehow managed to look aloof despite her obvious playful demeanor. Her ears erect she lowered her head so that just her eyes were above water before leaping up and shooting a stream of water at him from her mouth and prancing through the disturbed water again, tail flicking playfully.
"I got you! You will never catch me!" She called in a sing song voice as she taunted him sweetly.

He skidded to a stop in the water as the vixen shot water at him. Dropping down lower to pounce, Bruiser watched Kenna prance in the water. "I will get you. Just wait..." He chuckled to himself, this was fun. He kept an eye on her tail, waiting for the perfect moment to jump at it.
"One more flick," he whispered to himself. Back legs bunched and twitching for the time. "NOW!" He jumped at her tail, paws splayed to grab the tail in a gentle but firm grip and pull her into the water.
