The pink striped spiky haired boy stood awkwardly outside the house that belonged to Gently. He was dressed in a similar fashion as the last time he had seen here. He wore white button up shirt, black vest with a gold trim and black pinstriped pants. It was still cold and it gave him an excuse to wear long sleeves and pants in order to hide the bruising on his body, mainly down his arms and on his midsection. The only thing he couldn't hide was the nasty bruise that spread across his cheek from when Chaonis's fist had slammed in to it.
Thinking about the fight he gingerly touched the wound as he took a step closer to the door and rapped his knuckles against it. Once he had successfully knocked on the woman's door he stepped backwards and stuck his hands in his pockets, a habit that was beginning to form.
He really, really hoped that he didn't come off as a stalker because that would be completely and totally bad but he had been worried about her. Especially after that war that had erupted only a few nights ago. He had never realize how many senshi there were until he was in the midst of a large scale battle.
He wanted to check on her to make sure she hadn't gotten beaten up again, because that would be totally uncool.

Gently was resting on her sofa, watching a movie. She was just trying to keep from moving too much, her injuries giving her some pain and leaving her feeling tired and listless.
Movies were the order of the day, and she was surprised when the door went.
Wincing, she got up and moved over to peek out and see who it was. She recognized Chase and opened the door slowly, peeked her head out. There was a long bruise on the side of her face, from her ear and jaw, from where Chaonis had hit her. She had other injuries, but they were hidden under her baggy sweater and sweat pants.
"Ah! If I had known you were coming I might have dressed up a bit."
She looked at him keenly, spying the bruise. She stepped back from the door and invited him in, feeling guilty immediately about the injury. If she had been more useful in the fight, maybe less people would have gotten her for, because of, or around her.
"Are you okay?"

When she peeked her head out of the door he smiled sheepishly pulling a hand from his pocket to wave. "Hey." His smile quickly vanished when his golden eyes spotted the bruise that stretched down her face. That hadn't been there before. He would have remembered that. Bruises formed pretty quickly.
"You look..." he trailed off not wanting to say something rude. "You look fine, clothing wise but your face..." His voice dropped off again and he swallowed trying to find the right words to say. "I just wanted to check up on you, see how you were doing and," he stepped forward placing his hand on the door frame.
"You don't look so good," he told her as she let him in to her house. "I'm fine, nothing that I haven't been through before," he answered truthfully. In fact his injuries were pretty minimum, especially compared to some, and he had been in rougher fights previously, human ones.
In all reality though, he was lucky that the fight had ended when it did because it could have, and would have gotten much worse. "What happened?" He changed the subject back to her, gazing at her bruise. People sure liked to beat on Gently, he didn't like.

Gently looked surprised by his comment, though she couldn't exactly argue. Particularly when he repeated himself. She continued to blush slightly, rubbing the back of her neck. She leaned on the front door, her back against it, being careful of her inner shoulder.
"Looks are deceiving sometimes, I think," she said, perking up a bit. "I feel better than I look, for example. I hope you do, too, as you don't look any better than me, I don't think."
She tilted her head at him.
"I seemed to pick all the wrong fights, I think. Though, I like to think I did well! I mean. At the... you know. I was surprised to see you there. Thank you for coming to my rescue, yet again."
She smiled sheepishly at him, shaking her head. He kept saving her from those damn senshi, which she couldn't help but find a rather admirable quality, considering.
"Make yourself at home," she said, motioning around. It was a nice place, if not a bit sparsely decorated, though the TV room was certainly paid the most attention. All her little collectibles and movie paraphernalia, shelves of DVDs and VHS tapes, a large flatscreen.
She made to sit down on the sofa carefully, hand on her side.

"It's true," he agreed with a nod as he stood somewhat awkwardly by the door. He was hesitant to move further into the house without her invitation, he was a forward individual yes but he was also one with manners, most of the time. So, that meant he couldn't just waltz in to someone's home and make himself comfortable. He had to wait for the invitation to be extended.
"I'm fine, really," he repeated brushing her concern away. His body was sore, one of his ribs was probably bruised, his face was bruised and occasionally his shoulder hurt like hell when he moved it wrong but it could have been worse. Much worse. "I didn't break anything, though one senshi did try to break it, think I broke his nose," he grinned following her to the couch, sitting down close to him but not too close.
He really hoped that his head attack had broken the other boy's nose but if not, well he was going to make sure it broke the next time they met.
He smiled sheepishly at her gratitude and he shrugged. "Don't worry about it, I don't mind coming to the rescue of a pretty woman."

Gently looked at him, arms folded over her chest and a look that said she didn't believe him on her face. She shifted on the sofa and kicked his legs lightly with her feet, which were bare, then made to put her legs over his as she stretched on the side of the sofa.
She could tell he was tense, so she wanted him to relax.
Sighing, she flicked on the TV, shaking her head.
"I'm afraid I'll get you killed if you keep coming to help me," she gave him a sidelong look, serious, but worried and half playful at the same time. "I still owe you from before, and now I owe you for fighting that... very angry Senshi." She grinned though, giggling. "It does make me happy to hear you near broke his nose, though."

He knew that look, he saw it on his parent's faces too often to mistake it for anything other than what it was. He simply shrugged in response and continued to smile at her. "Hey, really I'm fine. Trust me, this is nothing," he assured her because truthfully it was. The damage that he had received in the last fight would heal soon enough, he gave it a weeks tops, maybe two for the bruised rib.
"I'm not going to lie and say that I don't hurt at all but," he paused to consider his words before finishing, "it's nothing I haven't been through before." He didn't want to admit to Gently that he wasn't exactly a good kid, because she thought of him as her own personal knight in shining armor. He didn't want to tell her that it wasn't true.
He set his arms on her legs easily as she propped them on his lap and he tried to appear as if he was relaxing by leaning back into the couch a bit but he was still on edge. A little. "I'm tough, don't need to worry about me. I won't let anything kill me, specially if it's because I'm saving you," he joked. "He seemed excited for the fight, we were pretty evenly matched I think," he was shrugging again. "I wouldn't mind saving you from him more often."

Gently watched him, still looking skeptical. They were both bruised, but they would survive to fight again. She would have to make sure that the next time they were in a fight together, she protected him. Of course, that might hurt his pride, but she didn't care. She had to even the score a little.
"Well, I can tell you hurt. I hurt. Bloody hell, I've this cut on my side, and it's bloody killing me. Ah, not... literally, of course. I'll be happy when it heals."
She supposed he meant that they all had to fight sometimes. Being in the negaverse would do that to you, and you had to learn to take a hit. She was getting more and more used to that, every day. Still, she didn't like it.
It wasn't difficult to see that he was still uncomfortable, though, her legs hanging over him might have had something to do with that. She smirked, shaking her head.
"Relax, I'm not going to eat you. Loosen up a bit, If you are going to stick around and gallantly fight on my behalf, you might as well enjoy a movie or a game on the NES. We don't always have to be fighting and almost dying. We can be friends and relax, too."

He shrugged wincing at the action, out of all his injuries his shoulder was the worst. He hoped she hadn't noticed but she probably would. With her insistence that he wasn't as fine as he said he was, well he wouldn't be able to continue the charade for much longer. There was only so many times that he could insist he was fine before either she dropped the subject or he just stopped talking.
He wasn't lying to her but he wasn't exactly truthful either. He was battered and bruised all over but it wasn't too bad, he'd been through much worse and often it didn't always involve getting in a fight with another person. Often it involved one of his pretty schemes blowing up in his face, sometimes literally.
"I shouldn't have let you get so hurt," he sighed when she mentioned the cut on her side. "I'm not a very good hero," he laughed as he reached out to outline the bruise one her face gingerly.

Gently frowned at him when he winced, not happy with that. She shook her head, not believing him, and resolved not to regardless. She knew he had been hurt, and he was just being the tough guy. But they couldn't dwell on it, really, as things would likely only get worse from here on out.
Still, that certainly didn't mean she had to buy it, though.
Still, she could tell he was getting vexed and she kicked him playfully, nodding and dropping it, rather than saying 'okay' and taking him at his word.
"It's not your fault I got hurt. Actually, I'm pretty sure it's my fault. But that's okay, you know. That's what we do. As long as we survive, we learn from our losses and do better the next time. I'm not scared of getting hurt, so long as I have the chance to grow from it, if you understand me." Her words came out slower at the end, as he touched her face. She smiled at him reassuringly, putting her hand over his on her cheek.
"We both got out of there, at least, so that's a plus."

He was thankful when she dropped the subject. He liked Gently and their friendship was just forming, though they were already fairly comfortable around each other, and he didn't want to ruin in now. He had already snapped at one of his friends when they continued a conversation he was finished with once, he didn't plan on doing it again.
"If I was a better hero you wouldn't have gotten hurt at all," he replied his expression darkening a tad. As she continued he wrinkled his nose locking gazes with her. "It'll take more than some punk senshi to take me out," he assured her slowly pulling his hand away. He looked away from her, staring at the TV blankly for a moment silent.
"You know, I don't regret my decision to join the negaverse at all," he began slowly, "but it's different than what I thought it would be. Though I'm not sure how I managed to do that, I always knew the stakes were high..." He wasn't afraid to die, he tended to charge in head first without thinking about the consequences. He had a disregard for safety. "But sometimes I wonder if all of us are in over our heads."

Gently looked at him thoughtfully, her playful expression falling a bit. They had wandered into serious conversation territory, and she nodded her head slowly as she thought about things. She smiled though, after a short moment of that.
"I don't think so. In over our heads, I mean. I think that's the point, you know? What we do, why we do it, it's not meant to be easy. But it's what we're made to do, I think, and by any means, to whatever ends, we're in it now. I know that's not a comfort, but the way I see it... we've got this duty, these fights and whatever else is put before us. All we can do is rise to the challenge, if you understand me."
She shifted a bit, scooting closer to him while moving her legs off of his so she could sit on her knees next to him. She watched him, speaking thoughtfully, though the words were falling out of her mind quickly enough.
"The only way you get better is to learn by doing. Success and mistakes, scary things and easy things. Everything helps you get better, and before you even realize it, you're stronger than you know. I think everyone has doubts, it's just a matter of what you do with them, and what you let them do to you."
She nodded her head, deciding that made sense in her mind.
"For myself, as long as I'm not dead, I'm dedicated. It sounds easier than it is sometimes, but I think that's the point."

He kept silent as Gently spoke about her dedication to her duties, to their responsibilities and how he shouldn't think that they were in over their heads. He continued to stare forward, lips pressed together in thought as he slowly leaned resting his elbows on his knees and interlacing his fingers. It might have seemed rude that he wasn't looking at her as she spoke to him but in all actuality he was listening quite intently.
He was far more focused, not looking at her than he would have been if he had been facing her. Seeing the bruises upon her face made their reality so much more real, harsher than he wished it to be.
"I never said I was scared," he interjected suddenly looking at her. He wasn't scare to fight for what he believed in, or to fight in general. He wasn't even scared of dying but of facing a harsher reality, what if they were the real bad guys and not the terrorist senshi as he believed? He shook his head, those thoughts were unnecessary, untrue...false.
He pretended he never thought them. "Did you see how many of them there are, I feel that they outnumber us," he explained trying to justify his 'we're in over our head' feeling. "I saw a child on that field, a child." He ignored the fact that most of them were children in all actuality, the kid he saw was different, younger. "We're stronger because we work together," he mumbled, he was rambling and he knew it.
"What happens when they finally start working as a team?" They couldn't recruit fast enough with only the General-Kings and Queens and some general's being able to release the dark power of the negaverse into a civilian's starseed. There were so many guardian cats out there awaking senshi left and right, would they be able to keep up.

Gently watched him as he listened, frowning softly. She made to reach her hand out, playing with his pink hair a bit before putting her hand on his shoulder. She let it sit there, though she looked surprised when he spoke and looked at her.
"I didn't mean you were scared. I meant... I mean. Sometimes I am, I'll admit that. And it's okay to be, if you can overcome it. That's all. I'm sorry," she spoke quietly, not wanting to upset him.
She nodded when he spoke of the senshi in the fight, though, remembering how many there had seemed to be. The very young kids fighting. It was harder for her to think about it, because she thought most of their own ranks, as well as the senshi, were pretty young for all of this. Even at twenty four, she didn't think she was mature enough for some of the things they had to do.
"I think that's where we have the advantage, at least. You saw them. They're a mess. No one leading them, no one team. I'm pretty sure half of them are against the other half. We have our unity, and we have youma to help us. We're stronger. And anyway, we can make them ours." She nodded her head. It was true: she had seen the corrupted senshi in the fight, and knew that no senshi had ever turned a Negaverse agent from their path.
That had to mean something.

He wasn't really in a position to be questioning his job or the organization his life now belonged to but Chase was curious kid and it couldn't be helped. Eventually he'd learn his lesson. "I wasn't scared, I was excited..." he didn't want to admit that he liked fighting, that fighting for the negaverse wasn't his first time fighting.
"I'm not brave," he mumbled amber eyes staring at his hand, folded in his lap. He wasn't brave, not really, he was reckless. Being brave meant being scared but overcoming it and he wasn't scared. But he wasn't fearless either, nobody was. "I'm not a good kid Gently," his voice was barely above a whisper when he admitted that.
Maybe she wouldn't hear him. Maybe she wouldn't say anything. Maybe, maybe, maybe...
"We're more organized for now but..." he shook his head. He kept trailing off, his father would criticize him for that if he heard. He had seen teams, senshi working together and they far outnumbered their own ranks. "They won't always be disorganized, maybe as a whole yeah but I could see teams, factions whatever you want to call them. They were forming."
