Ahnik was having a good couple weeks. Tension was thick in the den but he was triumphant. He had found a way to keep Kikimu and Anju here.. so long as he kept an eye on them for the next little while. The plan had been rather drastic, he knew the chances were that Anju would try something more desperate now. But Kiki was pregnant, no doubt about it now.. and he had named her Beybanu, she was the mother of the whole family. Another way to make her feel important, feel obligated to stay.

Yes, he was proud of himself. And he wasn't going far from the den for a while, keeping an eye on things around home. He was out in the sun a short ways away from the girls, lounging peacefully.

Anju was stewing, she was angry and there was no way to take our her aggressions. The lioness was also hurting, her mate had betrayed her in one of the most intimate ways. To make matters worse there was going to be a constant reminder of that betrayal, and soon. Anju looked at the yellow lioness in the sun and then her eyes fell on Tabia, the other female in their make shift group.

There's no escaping this, she thought angrily, and it's all his fault! She looked to the pink male and dark red male as he lounged.

The brown lioness walked toward him her head held high. There wasn't a way to escape this, she was sure, they were stuck, for good. The assertive female felt the need to make nice, for now.

Ahnik was having a fairly carefree afternoon but he noticed when suddenly Anju was approaching him. He glanced over his shoulder to her and grinned but did not get up. He didn't need to be especially polite, this would be fine.

"Good afternoon, Anju," he said, glancing from the brown lioness back to the others- and then back out into the distance before him. He didn't look particularly interested in chatting with her, though his greeting indicated otherwise.

"It is a nice warm day," she nodded, Anju wasn't very good at pretending to be anything, she looked down right miserable, but her tone was as pleasant as she could make it, and her posture said she wasn't going to be a problem.

"the weather is good for Kiki, not too hot, so that she will be uncomfortable," Anju sat down near him.

"You've succeeded." She didn't answer what exactly he'd done, but Anju was implying he'd finally found a way to make sure his banu never leave.

Anju's tone intrigued him and he looked back over. She was far less interesting now that he had everything his way.. but he knew she was still in there. She was being good because she was out of options right now. Less interesting but worth enjoying while it lasted.

"I know," he said, grinning once again, "You seem to be handling it well."

It was a partial lie. Right now she seemed to be taking it very well but he had witnessed some of the initial reactions, it was about as good as expected.

She clenched her jaw trying to hold her tongue but couldn't, what was he going to do? He already had what he wanted, Anju was sure things couldn't get any worse. Her anger, and despair was getting the better of her and she couldn't think things out, things could get worse, he could separate them.

"I just don't see why you would hold us here against our will," her voice was rising in volume, "This isn't your home land, this isn't where you were born, and yet you accept their disgusting customs as your own. Does it make you feel more like a male? Like you're more masculine for doing it?"

"Do you have any sisters? If you do, I hope one of them gets captured, and her life destroyed. I hope someone's holding someone in your family captive just like this, forcing them to do things they wouldn't otherwise think of, and breaking apart their family, ruining her life." She spit on the ground in Ahnik's direction.

His mouth twitched when she lost her patience and started ranting but he did not lose his smile, if anything he was struggling not to laugh at her. He looked down at the ground where she spit, staring for several seconds before reacting. He wasn't offended or angry, she was entertaining, but she was beginning to push it.

"Now, Anju," he said, pushing himself up to his full height, stepping closer to her menacingly, "You might want to think more carefully about the things you say and do. Someone might see and wonder why I keep you as a banu."

His tone was neutral but serious. The threat was real, though. It didn't really matter what he promised Kikimu, it was still up to him if Anju could remain a banu or be traded away as a kajira.

Anju slid back and stumbled to her feet, she stared daggers at him begging him to start something. the lioness may not be nearly as large a him, but she had enough attitude and anger to potentially become a problem.

"Let them see," she growled baring her teeth, Anju had wanted a piece of his hide since the moment she met him.

Anju was done with this, what type of lion would want a life that was only going to be filled with obstacles? Wouldn't Ahnik do better with willing lionesses? Instead of disturbing a perfectly good relationship. Let what was going to come, come, but she was done laying low and trying to forge a way out.

"Do you think that getting rid of me would please your beybanu?" She used the word almost as an insult, like slinging a vulgar slur.

"Do you?" he shot back at her, drawing himself up. His mind went over the possibilities. His circle was not yet that wide in this pride but he could certainly find someone that would be willing to take Anju if he had to. She could get a taste of how she would be treated outside of his harem, somewhere without Kiki. He worked to keep Kiki happy, when Anju wasn't around, he rather enjoyed the company of the yellow lioness. Whatever devious tricks had been on his mind during their important conversation about having a family.. he had confided in her. Having Anju around was a good outlet for any latent aggression but life could be easier without her.

That very tiny voice in your head that tells you when to back off of something and let it go, that there are better ways to get what you want...yeah, Anju didn't have one of those. Her anger was growing and she was sure to say, or do something she would regret later.

"You wouldn't dare, Ahnik, disrupt our happy little family? That'd be so unlike you."

She wasn't foolish enough to think that Kikimu wanted her to leave, Kiki was in her own way very regretful and upset, but she was hiding it well, and taking her new role as beybanu seriously. Anju was sure it was like she actually wanted to stay with Ahnik, that she actually enjoyed his company.

"Don't tempt me, I made a promise to Kikimu but the decision is ultimately mine," he said, his tone becoming more vicious now. He had his patience but it only went so far. He was still far from truly angry, at least.

"We are going to be a family now, and that doesn't have to include you," he said, stepping closer to her so they were nearly nose-to-nose, "Now would be the best time to back down and shut up." She was challenging him, daring him to follow through with the threat.. and he was sorely tempted to go out of his way to do it.

A promise to Kikimu? Anju was of the opinion he shouldn't be looking at her mate, let alone talking to her.

"We're a family built on lies." was all she said before backing down, she lowered her head and stepped backwards, taking a more submissive posture. For all her anger and hate, Anju really did not want to have to leave Kiki's side, especially with cubs on the way.

"I've told no lies, I've been nothing but honest with the both of you since we came here, you can count on that," he said, straightening himself up and looking down his nose at Anju as she submitted, unwilling to really put herself into danger of being given or traded away.

"So believe me when I tell you that I won't always be this patient with you," he said. Once the cubs came, he would be forced to be a little more careful about what Anju was allowed to get away with. He would have to set a good example for his sons- and daughters. They would learn how to behave properly. He could be a good father, he would be.

No lies? she considered talking kindly to Kikimu and trying to befriending her, his charming manipulative personality to be deceitful enough. If he did not consider that lying, she wasn't sure what was.

She felt like shrieking and ripping him apart, not that she had the physical strength for it, but Anju was sure that, that would be the only thing that would quiet the storm in her mind. Her defeat was evident on her face, her forehead wrinkled, eyes cast dow. She was defeated, and it wasn't necessarily just for now.

"I'm glad we had this talk, Ahnik." She growled under her breath, they were so close that he would obviously hear, and then louder she added. "I'm going to get back to Kikimu now." you know, the lioness that you got pregnant, the one that loves me, not you.

He didn't say anything else but stood there, watching her go meekly back to her mate. He wasn't sure this was over, there could still be time before the cubs came for trouble.. but it would do no good to be worked up now. It would be very interesting to see how Anju took her place in the harem, what happened in the future with her.

Ahnik sat down, now facing his ladies, watching them and thinking about their futures.
