User ImageSuccess! Erika had decided to forego finding a place to sleep for trying to worm into a theater, and in her opinion the results were totally worth it. Not only had she gotten into the theater and not only was a play about to start, if the humans finding seats were any indication, it was very warm and comfortable in the building. She'd grown up with ten sisters playing all manners of hiding and hunting games, so finding a spot to sleep in this building would be a piece of cake!

But for now, Erika wanted to find a good spot to settle down and watch the play. She'd managed to slip in through a side door that was probably used by actors or other humans who worked here, but going up was probably her best bet at being invisible. Humans, and most creatures in general, rarely looked up. It was actually a great trick, for when one looked they all did. Erika had used that trick to divert attention from herself for those cruical moments needed to change positions or expressions while performing.

Now to find some stairs! Erika blended into the shadows with the ease of an actor making an unobtrussive exit from the stage, and began to explore.

((I fixed some typos. Apparently I need to slow my brain down a lot more if I made that many little mistakes >.< ))

Romulus quietly scurried through the airconditioning vents, his purposefully well-kept nails hardly making a sound against the metal as he went. No human would notice the noise, although his talent for silence had come after years of being caught and nearly truend over to their animal control.

He snorted lightly. Idiot humans.

Soon he was at the end of the duct. He knew this theatre, and already knew that their vents were in the wall, not the ceiling. He had snuck through a ceiling duct once before; it was an unfortunate and somewhat nauseating decision.

He looked around. None of them humans had noticed him. Reaching out a paw, he knocked out the vent he had already loosened earlier in the morning. He smirked; the humans put it back up after every visit of his, but he'd learned how to finagle a human scredriver with his mouth (albeit it at a very awkward angle).

No vent in his way and far from the view of any human, Romulus squirmed into a comfortable position and set his head on his paws. Just before he could relax and get into the right mindet for the play, he noticed a ...vixen? darting up the stairs? He'd never seen the female before.

He sighed and leaned down to whisper sharplyto her when she darted under his vent, "They cna catch you down there, you know."

Erika nearly jumped out of her skin! It was truly a wonder she didn't make a sound louder than a human footstep, and even more of a wonder that no humans spotted her! Modifoxes weren't known for their petite stature.

After getting her heartbeat under control she glanced upward. There, poking out of an air vent was a black and white face topped with dark blue. She glared for a moment, and had to supress her urge to scold like that giant rooster in the cartoons that human kits loved to watch; it probably wouldn't have make him feel bad at all, and more than likely would have made him laugh.

"I would have been fine," she protested in a heated whisper. "You ever seen spy movies? They just about never get caught. I was in spy character, and you went and broke it." She fought back one of her dramatic sighs, as this wasn't quite the time or place, and tried to press herself closer to the wall just to make sure no humans had spotted her yet.

Romulus couldn't help but snort. "Except you aren't a spy, you're just playing one," he whispered back. "I could act like a pink, giant chicken, that does not make me one." Which was a very good thing, in his opinion. Still, this vixen didn't have the same skillset as a spy, and he couldn't help but look around to see if they'd been noticed.

He considered for a second, then grunted and slid out of the vent and managed to get down onto the ground to her with no broken bones or revealing noises. "If you're going to get caught, you'll need a fox who knows this place to get you out," he grumbled. Stranger or not, he wouldn't will the crazy animal control humans on anyone.

The lights flickered; last call for the humans to take their seats.

"At least we will be in the dark," he sighed, resigned to staying down here now.

Erika looked mildly disgruntled. Well of course acting like a pink chicken wouldn't make you one, that was transcending species! Spy was a role, just like any other, and while she had no practical experience with it in this town, she was sure she could manage to become a spy long before the first pink feather popped up on the deep blue coat!

"Can't we go the rest of the way up the stairs," she hissed back at him, the gradual process of light dimming calling up old habits of silence. She looked beyond the male at the dim staircase, the top of which was quite close. "I mean there's always some kind of storage room in these big theaters that no one ever goes into, right? The older buildings always seem to have something towards the top, with openings for the lights to shine down through."

That was one of the major advantages of this day and age, in her opinion. Since everything was electronical there didn't have to be any humans up with the lights to make them move, brighten, or dim. There's been an old theater a lot like that that she'd frequented before it got shutdown, and it had been an excellent spot to watch from.

Romulus was tempted to tell the vixen no, just because he was stubborn and didn't want to admit she was right. "Hopefully they have a door open," he replied, which was him grudgingly admitting that she had a point.

Looking around, Romulus reacquainted himself with the layout of this theatre. "This was, then." He quickly stole away up the stairs, sticking closely to the shadows. His white was a disadvantage, but hopefully he was in a dark enough spot that his blue and black would help meld him in.

After a moment he had them at the top of the stairs, and he looked around for the spotlight closet. "That might be one," he whispered, nodding to a door that was cracked open. "Who gets to chance it first?"

Thus far Erika really hadn't thought to question the male, despite his sudden appearance and taking over of her plan, which probably would have gone off without a hitch had she been left uninterrupted. She had a strong, exhuberant personality, but hard-headed stubborness just wasn't in her bones.

She nodded in approval to their surroundings. There was a layer of dust over most of the stuff up here, in varying layers of thickness. The carpet was old, industrial-style stuff, picked for it's hardy life and ease to clean rather than looks. It was obviously ancient and probably hadn't been changed out in a couple decades. She was thankful there was any carpet, otherwise she'd have to find a way to hide pawprints left on a dusty wooden floor.

The door was a plain, wooden one, painted an equally plain white and in sore need of a touch-up. "I'll go," she breathed, just in case there was a human in the room. "I match the door." She ghosted down the short corridor, and peered through the crack into the room. Encouraged by the lack of life, Erika slowly nudged the door open further to peek in the rest of the way, then pulled back.

She tiptoed back to the male. "Safe," she said, looking relieved. "Is this the oldest part of the building though? From what I saw it looked like an old control room, but I couldn't tell if it was still in use." After all the dust everywhere didn't meant humans didn't come here. They were sloppy creatures. "Is there any way to go up a bit more?"

Romulus let his muscles relax a little when the female showed up again. "There's a place higher up, but that door's always been locked every time I try." This would now; it was riskier to get to, but more comfortable than his air ducts. He slipped in after her into the old control room.

After a minute, he finally realized he was being overbearing. It wa sa bad fault of his, and he didn't usually notice until someone pointed it out. Pulling his ears back, the blue male moved to see out of the room at the stage.

"Er...sorry about just showing up and taking over. I'm bad about that sometimes, I'm afraid." He paused, then remembered he hadn't even told her his name. It was a good thing Remus wasn't here, even his quiet little twin brother would have laughed at him.

"I'm Romulus, by the way."

"Erika," she responded, almost absently. Well, perhaps not almost; her mind was trying to draw a mental map of what she'd seen of the place so far and fitting it with the outside of the building, as well as taking into account how many humans she'd seen in the building and weighing their chances. She didn't even notice the apology. Bad form on her part, but with as big a family as hers manners tended to go by a different set of rules.

"Think we should give it a shot? I mean maybe we can find a way in there somehow. You were crawling through the vents, right? There's almost always a way in through those. And if the door's locked from the outside, it gives humans a whole lot less reason to be there, and less chance of us getting caught."

Of course the room could be just something for storage, with no view of the theater at all. Worse, it could be that and they could get caught, meaning the whole trip all the way up here would have been for nothing. But to be a dedicated actor one had to take the occasional risk, and not worry about falling flat on their face. Actually, that was something of a favorite quote of hers she'd picked up from her sister. When you stumble, make it part of the dance.

So, if they screwed up somehow, she'd just have to find a way to fix things. In the meantime the promise of a more secluded and higher up place was appeal enough for the vixen.

Romulus held his tongue, despite doubting the wisdom behind Erika's plan. Already they had tested fate by coming up here--not every human was an unobservable buffoon. Did they really need to keep trying their luck? They were high enough to easily see the stage, what did being higher matter?

Stll, he remembered that he needed to keep his abrasive perosnality in check. He let her finish outlining her idea before thinking of what to say. "I don't see the need to go up higher. We already have a better view than even some of the humans do. Why chance one of them catching us?" The Syndicate had made him far more cautious than your average city fox; they had lived under tense circumstances, and were more liekly to think logically than spring for adventure.

Romulus padded further into the room to watch the curtian, checking to make sure the play had not yet started. "I could give you directions on getting through the vents, but it would be safer to stay here."

Erika frowned, the faint hint of a on her lips. She had to work to keep herself from slipping into a petulant drama queen, as most of the young heroines in plays started out as; it annoyed the heck out of her sisters, who were mostly artists. She had to remind herself that she couldn't always have things her way, one of her fatal flaws as an actor. For better or worse, Erika was something of a perfectionist.

"Fine," she recultantly agreed. "The play's starting soon anyway. I guess I can come back and explore the theater some other time, find the prime seats later." And, as long as the actors here were any kind of good, there would definetly be other times!
