Ok so out of all the gaming genres. What takes the most skill to play? Oh and explain.
I say FPS (First Person Shooters) since it takes quick, but Marksman hands to win a game these days. Newbies will spray and pray, but that's only 10% of people you play against. The other 90 been playing FPS games for years and you have to be on you guard, even while around friends.

Perhaps a balanced FPS, but there are few of such.
RTS more than likely. Playing an RTS on hard mode or against real people is intense. I actually went against an army strategist once in an online tournament for RUSE. Wow. That was... ow.

i can list a bunch of games but i say games like devil may cry or the bouncer or command and conquer sometimes games like call of duty or gears of war if at highest if difficulty

I would say shooter. Personal Experience... it took me 8+ months of playing Halo 3 24/7 to get as good as I was.

In a way, I could say that it's a tie between FPS and RTS, though I'm more likely to side with RTS on requiring more skill to play.
FPS simply requires quick reflexes, decent concentration, a watchful eye, and sometimes a cooperative team.
RTS, on the other hand, requires similarly the same along with decent knowledge of strategic plays. How successful your units will perform depends on the map area of the battle, the ability of your opponent, his selection of troops, and his responses during the battle. Take a look at the Koreans and their obsession with Starcraft. One of their lower tiered players will rip us to shreds within minutes into a game.
In FPS, you're simply keeping track of your ammo, position, enemy positions, allies positions, key points, choke points, or whatever. Usually you're tasked with one of the duties while your teammates carry out the others.
In RTS, you are the mastermind behind your entire army. How you use your army during the course of the war will determine the fate of your empire. You control everything from directing troops into battle down to the gathering of resources required to sustain your empire.
You can argue the case as you like. Makes no difference to me really. Do note that my opinion is more biased because of the fact that I love and prefer RTS games over FPS games.

I honestly do not believe it has much, if anything, to do with genre and more to do with individual games. I have played easy games in every single genre, as well as challenging ones in each.
As a general rule, I would say possibly RTS... but some people who are great at RTS could be terrible at something like Platforming. It all depends on the game itself, as well as the player.

Fighting Games have to be the most difficult, in terms of skill, genre in games.
It doesn't require just the click of a trigger button, and a move of the D-pad. But learning their combo's. And even when you learn them, inputing them correctly, and timing them.
You also have to learn the fighters advantages, and disadvantages. What moves can be easily punished. Which moves can easily punish others in situations. Not to mention, good tactics, and taking advantage of them.
Whether that be if the character jumps a lot, and you have great Anti-airs to knock them into a combo opportunity, or pinning them in the corner to keep doing combo's so they don't leave.
If that's not difficult, I don't know what is.

If that's not difficult, I don't know what is. yes, i agree. fighting games are probably the most difficult to get REALLY GOOD AT. cause i go online at blazblue, and they make you watch the match beforehand, and among my friends, i'm really good at fighting games, but i go online and everyone's like FUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!!

I'd have to say fighting games, as well. They are all about instinct, strategy and timing. Usually you can not be impatient or brash if you really want to win agaist the computer on high difficulties or someone who is an expert. Playing a fighter means you've got quite a bit to learn. There are tons of combos, not to mention mechanics such as just inputs, buffering, anti-air, and whiffing and a bunch of other terms that probably sound like gibberish to someone who isn't into fighting games. Oh, and the freaking notations for fighters looks like some weird form of calculus.

I'd have to say real time strategy (RTS) games take the most skill to play and be good at. RTS games like....

Fighters definitely, all those combos and counters and it's just all too much. You really get owned when you fight someone who knows more than you.
RTS's sorta but a lot of them just turn into patterns, build this first, then that, then this, then attack. =/

I think every genre can require different types of skills to be competitively good.
FPS's require quick reflexes. Fighting games require good memorization skills. RPG's require attention to detail and patience.
I would say though that FPS's and Fighting games definitely are the hardest to become "pro" at though. To me, fighters are harder, but that's just because I'm a very good FPS player, and I am horrible at fighting games and just cannot get good at them.
