Pretty things. That was what they were out to find. Champagne bounced through the trees and bushes, happy as can be, tail wagging and cheeks glowing. Sure, it had been a while, sure, it had been a painful time, sure, she had wanted to cry every time she saw a fox happy with a mate, but none of that mattered now that Tenma was here with her.
Mate. They weren't mates, no, but Tenma made her happy and that's all Champagne cared about. Besides, maybe... Nah. She shook her head, reminding herself that her dream was only a dream, nothing more. After all, Tenma didn't want her for a mate... she still remembered all-to-clearly every word he had said in the cave before that horrible morning when she awoke alone...
"Here!" Champagne found a nice collection of vines, perfect to hang other pretty things on. "Lets get these, Tenma!~" She put her paws as high as she could on a tree, and stretched up to bite off some vine.

Tenma watched her idly, sighing. Why did she trust him, even now? Even after he broke her heart on purpose, to try and protect her? Even when he just vanished? She was such a strange girl, so very strange. The purple eyed pair were a strange one. Friends, even though both were so very different. He wished he could be her mate, but....it wasn't going to happen. He couldn't let it. He had hurt her, he would continue to hurt her, he just didn't want that. He didn't want to hurt her anymore.
He nodded at her words, yanking off vines quickly and skillfully, dropping them before their feet. He didn't question her yet, though all he wanted was to turn around and demand to know why she still cared for him. But he didn't question it, he just....didn't want to deal with it right now. He wanted to pretend he could keep her, even if just for now.

Giggling, Champagne twirled the vines around her tail for easy carry and continued to scout out decorative items. She wasn't entirely sure what to look for, since any time she decorated it was with flowers...
Painfully aware of the silence of her companion, Champagne kept glancing over at him often and smiling cheerily. She could guess what he was thinking, and frankly she didn't care. So what if he left? Really, it wasn't his fault, he couldn't help it... He had even tried to distance himself before it happened, so she wouldn't hurt so bad... right? That was the reason Champagne kept telling herself for why he said the things he did... Still, she wondered if... if he really didn't like her...
After gathering some pretty pinecones and some spiderweb for the stock, she just couldn't take it any more. "Tenma." She sat down right smack in front of him, so close their noses nearly touched, and Champagne could almost feel a tingling spark from it. "What are you thinking? Right now, right this very second? Tell me, please." Her voice was gentle, a little scared, but firm. He wasn't getting out of this.

Tenma blinked at Champagne, tail flicking idly. He wanted to just get up and leave right now, he really didn't want to say his thoughts. Why should he if she already knew? Why should he keep doing this to her when all he wanted was for her to be happy for once? The sullen male held his silence for a bit, but this wasn't new, she already knew he was a quiet person. Finally, he flicked his tongue against the roof of her mouth, glared hatefully at the ground, and growled.
"I'm angry." He finally said, lips twitching. "That I left you." He almost left right there, almost said goodbye and went back to say bye to his two sisters and vanish. He didn't want to admit these things...these silly things "I wanted to stay. I thought maybe if I just tried hard enough I could wake up. I thought that if it was you I'd be okay, but you were special. But then I woke up in the mountains. I left you." He looked at her, gritting his teeth.
"I am angry at myself, because your special. Because I like you. Perhaps love, either way, it doesn't matter. It doesn't, Champagne. Because you deserve better. Which is why you should move on. I will never be the man worthy of having you beside me, because you need someone better then what I can give you."

For a second, all Champagne did was look at him, dead in the eyes, only a single blink showing life. Her mind was reeling. He liked her. He really did like her. Perhaps love her. He said she was special.
So quick that Tenma wouldn't stand a chance of stopping it if he wanted to, which Champagne would be willing to bet he wouldn't stop her if he could, she kissed him. Straight up, no b.s., kissed him. She didn't care what he thought, he was wrong. So very wrong. Pulling back and wrapping her self around him so he couldn't run, she told him this. "You're making a big deal out of nothing, Tenma," She said in a soft voice, tail curled around his body and her own body draped around his back, her paws stretched over his shoulder and her head nuzzled the back of his neck. "Just because you are not perfect does not mean you are not worthy of being loved, of being happy... Tenma, if you're happy with me it does matter! And I don't give two tails about what I deserve, because it's a wonderful, caring, kind, loving fox named Tenma that I want, and don't you know that a girl always gets what she wants?" There was a slight teasing tone to her last little bit, but the meaning behind it was serious. She did want him. Only him.
Rubbing her head against him softly, she told him in a soft whisper, "Besides, Tenma, I... I love you. Nothing will ever change that, no fox could ever change that..."

Her kiss was nothing more than shocking. His eyes widened and he let out a tiny gasp. When she pulled away he merely stared at her as if she had grown an extra eye, mind frozen and halted. For a brief second he seemed to go from shocked to nervous, and then once more a strange calmness. He accepted the way Champagne moved her body over him, ears flicking as he considered his options.
Making a big deal of nothing? Did she not understand? He was not a good mate. No, hardly. He wanted her to be happy, he wanted her not to be sad. But, despite how he protested she still stuck by his side. He sighed in his throat at her words, body giving up, slowing laying down.
Really, why would he keep fighting this? He didn't want to anymore. "Sparkles." He finally sighed out, shaking his head. "You don't listen."

She shook her head, ignoring the butterflies at being called by her pet name because there were more serious matters at paw, and hugged him tighter. "No, Tenma, it's you who doesn't listen. You're not a bad fox, Tenma! Why can't you just accept that I still want to be with you, just the way you are? I'll follow you to the ends of the Earth if I have to, I don't care! Tenma..." She didn't want to say what she was about to say, didn't want to pull the guilt card even if every word was true, but... she couldn't lose him. Not again, not by his choice. "Tenma... please... don't leave me willingly... Amy... she's so sad... I don't want to be like that... please... I can't be happy without you... even Kithara could see that... why else would she have called you here, then said you were my present?" By this time, small tears were in her eyes.
Never in a million years would happy, bouncy Champagne ever have thought that her bubbly-ness would depend on a single fox. Yet, here he was, a fox she didn't know very long but long enough for him to steal her heart... No, what's given cannot be stolen, and she had given her heart to him. He was special, just like he called her, and no way could she let this go.

"Amy's the blind vixen, right?" He asked, sighing to himself. How could he fight her anymore? When he saw Amy she seemed sad, he knew this. If Champagne ever held such sadness, he'd...he'd... He'd hate himself forever. He sighed as he heard her tears, pushing her off him, then bringing her closer so she was against his chest, kissing her.
"I won't." He sighed finally, shaking his head. "I'll stay nearby. If I wander I'll find a way to return to you." He wanted to stop wandering, wanted it to stop so bad, wanted to be able to choose where to be, who to be with.

Her chest grew tight in a breath-taking way at the kiss, and a bubbly happiness overtook the vixen. Like a kit she squeaked and snuggled against Tenma, taking pleasure in the feel of his warmth, the scent of his fur. "Kithara will be so happy... I'm so happy..." There was no hiding the huge smile on Champagne's face. Tenma would stay with her. Even if he wandered again, he'd come back to her. He'd never leave her, not really. Not for good. Not for long. He was really her Tenma~
Champagne wrapped her tail around the male, snuggling as closely and tightly as she could, not quite able to get enough. A sudden realization made her giggle. "I finally know how my name feels!" Referring, of course, to champagne, a drink that had been described to her and the feeling of drinking it described to her, but a feeling she had never quite understood until now: a bubbly, tingly, warm sensation deep inside that makes you all giddy and happy and makes you feel like life is just perfect.
"Tenma?" She rubbed her head under his chin. "I love you~"

"I love you too....Champagne."
Why did he never call her Paige? Why did he always call her her name, or Sparkles? He could guess, maybe even pretend he understood his way of thought. Champagne was rarely used for her, people always found that shortening her name was more appropriate. It was how he treated her. She was special, he wanted to be the one that called her things no one else did. Sparkles, cute, his. No one else would call her these things, it was his mark. Not possessive, not a mark meant to shove people aside and threaten them. A mark to make her smile, to make her realize he truly cared.
He would never call her Paige. It did not fit her in his eyes. She was unique, he would call her the names that most did not. He would show he cared, showed he loved her.
The feeling....it was back. The feeling of...wandering. Of leaving. Of shutting off. 'I'm running out of time.' His thoughts wandered to, sighing softly. Hell.... why was he like this?
...... 'Dammit.'

The vixen inhaled deeply, enjoying so much the feel of his warmth, the scent of his fur... but, alas, Elder had sent them on a mission. Hesitantly, Champagne wiggled out from under Tenma's chin and kissed him again. "Mmm... we still have a job to do~" She reminded the male. Oh, how she wanted to stay cuddled with him forever and a day, but, her loyalties were to her tribe, her new family, first, and she was quite happy that her Elder was related to her new... mate. Wow. What a word! It felt so strange... yet so right. Again, her month-old dream came back to her, and once again she could see those little kits playing on her and around her... It was breathtaking to think that one day that might just come true.
In a bit of a daze, Champagne didn't see the pretty berry bush in front of her until she had been staring at it for several seconds. It was a red berry, big and round, and while she had no name for it she knew a few facts: it grew only in colder months, was safe to eat, and had no medicinal purposes. However, they did have decorating purposes!

He hummed in his throat when she kissed him, watching her bounce off to the bush with a flicked tail. He eyed her with a violet eye, yawning before standing and slipping closer to see what she saw. He glanced back at where the vines were, grabbing them and wrapping them around his tail, moving to Champagne and without hesitation grabbed a berry and fastened it to the vine, humming when it worked. Oh, his making accessories helped with this little task.
"There, we can latch the berries onto the vines, and other objects. It'll look nice."

Champagne vaguely remembered Kitara saying that Tenma made accessories and such, and beamed at the male for his skill. "I'll look great!" She chirped, then quickly picked more berries for him and rounded up the pinecones they collected earlier.
"Hmmmmmm..." While Tenma worked, the vixen wandered circles around him, looking in the bushes and trees and everywhere there might be more pretty stuff. She spotted some mistletoe... It was quite pretty, but poisonous if eaten. Nodding to herself, she decided to get a sprig or two anyway; the tribe knew it was toxic, and if they got any new kits to the tribe before the plant was disposed of she'd sit them down and explain the dangers.
"Tenma, I'm going to grab that mistletoe up there, ok?" Without waiting for a response, she jumped up the tree and began climbing her way up.

He nodded, feeling his body shiver. "Just be careful." He called, ears flicking once she began to move closer. Wasn't mistletoe dangerous? Though it was pretty. Suddenly, his body went numb, dropping the vines full of different objects, head snapping upwards. Violet eyes glazed over, paws lightly turning his body and taking him away from both the vixen and the tribe grounds, without a word of goodbye.
In the back of his head he was attempting to struggle through the haze. However, as always he ended up failing. He ended up a failure. He ended up walking even faster, almost as if he was asleep. Was he? Or was he awake? Was this sleep-walking? He never knew, all he knew was that yet again he was leaving Champagne.

About halfway up, the vixen's claws slipped and she crashed to the ground. It wasn't a bad fall, but she cried out anyway because, well, landing on your tail can hurt. Wait. Huh? Champagne blinked. Tenma? He should have rushed to her side... She looked around. No Tenma. Frowning, she stood up, twitching her tail that was sure to be bruised and looked around. Tenma. No Tenma. Ten... Tenma! She spotted his tail end, weaving through the trees... She blinked again. "Tenma...? Tenma!" No answer. No twitch of ears to signal he heard her...
Was he wandering?
Champagne sprang forward, rushing up to the male, who was so far away by the time she sprang that she could almost not see him. When she caught up, she trotted alongside him, looking at him, his eyes, his facial expression... blank. Totally blank. She slowed, trotted to the other side, looked... blank. He was wandering. Just for good measure, Champagne trotted in front of him, side-stepping, looking at him head-on, face-to-face, then moved to the side she started on. "Huh." Frowning again, the vixen sat and watched him walk, thinking...
((figured I'd let you post, then she'll try to snap him out of it?))
