Having spent most of her days walking, Mwujuzi had found herself to be hungry more often than when she was before when she was still living with the Kusini. One thing she had noticed was that the abundance of food could be either great or scarce. The golden lioness bent low to the ground and sniffed around for a scent, hoping that a stray antelope or zebra might be close by. Soon enough she caught a wiff of something and moved so that she was down wind as to not give away her position. Unsure of what exactly it was she was tracking, but sure that it was alone, she set off to catch her prey, hoping that things wouldn't go wrong.

(( OWNED BY TALENCIA )) Well. This wasn't exactly what Awani had been expecting when she'd scented blood on the wind. She hadn't gotten a clear scent of what had been bleeding, but the scent of death and blood was plenty to draw the huntress to see who or what was stirring. But this... this was surprising. It wasn't normal prey at all, though it was very clearly dead. The many tracks that flattened the ground around it made it obvious that it had not died lonely, however. She stared in amazement at the scene, for amid the heavily trampled soil, there lay a beheamoth creature. It's belly was plenty big enough to fit her inside, with lots of room to spare. She had seen these from afar, but never been so foolish as to approach to learn more about them. She'd heard them called elephants by others, spoken in hushed whispers. And now here was one... being feasted on by a pair of beligerent hyenas. She paused to consider... was it worth the trouble to chase them off?

Mwujuzi continued to move towards the scent, eager to get some food into her. She didn't know just how hungry she was until she was closer, her stomach giving a small rumble, letting her know how it felt. Now she was close she could tell it was dead, and soon she was able to see the scene for herself. There it was, a dead elephant, she'd heard of them before, and felt a pang of sadness for it's current state. But, food was food, and if she didn't have to kill it, that was easier for her. Soon though she realised she wasn't the only one on the scene. There were two hyenas scavenging from the dead carcass, and she could see another cat, was it a leopard? Perhaps together they could drive off the hyena. She'd met leopards before, there were some that were part of the pride so she wasn't scared off. Hyenas however, chilled her to her bone. She silently made her way to the leopardess. "Hey," she whispered. "Do you want to get rid of them?" She nodded towards the hyenas. "There's plenty to split between us." She couldn't take two hyena alone, but with the help of another perhaps they had a chance.

A feral grin split Awani's face. Oh yeah, she'd be more than willing to take on two puny hyenas with a lioness at her side. "Most certainly I'd like to," she hissed softly, eyes riveted on the two nervously snarling and gorging hyenas. "They've been filling their bellies for a while, so they aren't likely to move too fast, and are more likely to be driven away easier," she spoke softly, though her muscles were slowly coiling in preperation for battle. "If you can take on the one on the right, I'll be sure to keep the one on the left off of you." Her tail lashed sharply behind her, and she crouched, eyes wide and pupils narrowed. It was time for some fun.

Mwujuzi smiled back. They were obviously on the same wave length. She looked back to the two hyenas and nodded. "Okay, sounds good." Mwujuzi bent low, ready to push forward on her strong legs when the signal was given. She decided that since the leopard was here first, she would follow her lead. She eyed off the hyena that had been designated to her. It was small, and she'd easily be able to take it. Mwujuzi didn't know why she disliked hyenas, just that she did. They were strange creatures, scavangers, but they had the guts and the will to jeer and harass all of the other races of the Savannah. She pulled back her upper lip as she waited, revealing her sharp white teeth. Whilst she wasn't going to kill, a small n** could help get the hyenas moving in a hurry.

She debated waiting until the hyenas were looking elsewhere to charge, or purposely leaping for them when they both were facing the felines. On one hand, surprise was a good thing on their side, but the other was that they merely wanted to drive them away, and what would deter more than two large, aggressive predators leaping together in your direction? So it was that she bided her time for the few heartbeats it took for both hyenas to both eye them suspiciously. Trusting her new companion to follow her lead swiftly, she launched herself airborn with an echoing snarl, large paws thrown wide with claws extended and death in her eyes. She didn't mind one bit if they fought back and forced her to kill them. Such was the ring of life, for the losers anyway. This feast was meant for bigger bellies than these carrion-crunchers!

So, they would attack when they'd been seen? Well Mwujuzi would have preferred the element of surprise, but since she was following the leopard she wasn't going to complain. When the hyena's turned to look at them, she sprung from her spot moments after the leopardess had done so. Her golden paws were out in front of her, claws and teeth bared, accompanied by an aggressive roar. She leaped towards the smaller one, the one she'd been designated, hoping to scare it off. Bloodshed wasn't something she particularly wanted to do at this time of the day.

The scavengers backed up, snarling and snapping at the air in their own show of power, neither counter-attacking nor fleeing. Stalemate for first move, but that did not deter Awani. She let her momentum carry her on into the larger hyena, slamming the canine with her broad, well-muscled chest, knocking him over completely. She tumbled over him and was back on her paws, spinning back to snarl her defiance at him. "Flee or die, bonechewer!" she fiercely challenged her opponent, giving him an out with no bloodshed.

Mwujuzi continued a low roar, all the while baring her white, sharp teeth as the hyenas returned their aggression. Mwujuzi wasn't scared. They were smaller than they were, and the combination of her power and the power of the leopardess was greater than the strength that the hyenas possessed. Mwujuzi kept her eye contact with the smaller hyena as Awani struck her opponent. She didn't flinch, didn't move, just in case the smaller predator saw it as an opportunity to attack. Instead she continued her low growl, throwing in the occasional snarl. Apparently this was enough for the smaller hyena to decide this wasn't worth fighting for. It watched as it's partner went flying then gave a quick look back to the lioness and the leopardess. Then, it turned on it's heels, and ran.

Once one of them broke and fled, the other followed suit almost immediately. One hyena was inevitably a dead hyena, most especially against two healthy, strong females like they were. Panting only just barely, she cast a look of triumph at her partner. "Well played, friend! What is your name?" She bumped heads with a soft tap in enthusiastic greeting in companionship. Anyone she fought beside was sister or brother to her from that day on, without fail. That was how Awani worked in this world. "My name is Awani'shairi," she imparted her full name as further token of battle-siblings. "Well played indeed!" Her blood was singing, and the smile refused to leave her face. "Come, my lionish sister! Let us feast in celebration!" With these words, she began to tear ravenously at the large carcass. Triumph was delicious!
