The red cub stretch quietly as she walked along the beach. She liked the squishy feeling the sand made beneath her toes. Every step she took she made an effort to squish her toes even deeper into the sand. She smiled a little at herself she was such a clever girl.
Marwa looked around her surroundings. The water was at load tide and was just barely lapping the sand. She liked the water but had never really gone into the water, she was still a fairly small cub and the waters where vast she was always kind of afraid that she would get washed away and never be seen again. That being said her red pelt would help her be spotted.
Marwa's red pelt was something she was a little self conscious about so many in the pride where loevely shades of blues and greens, and then there was her. She tended to stick out like a sore thumb a lot of the time. She frowned and tried to stop thinking about her fur instead she forced her thoughts back to the squishy sand. Squish, squish, squish

Mydas was quietly sitting at the very, very edge of the shoreline. He had seated himself back far enough so that when the ocean lapped towards him it gently swirled around his toes before making a slow retreat. A contemplative look was on his face, one far too serious for his cherubic face. Mydas mind was full of jumbled thoughts, none of them life-changing or important.
His attention was captured by a bright red cub and he watched her in silence as she dug her toes into the sand. She was within shouting distance. Perhaps if he was a different cub he would've called out to catch her attention. No, Mydas merely sat where he was, planted firmly in the silky sand with his toes damp with the water of the sea, and watched the other cub enjoy the squishy sand. The only thing that moved was the corners of his mouth as they slowly curved upwards in a small, small smile.

Marwa had been able to lift her mood again with the squishy sand. As she danced along the beach she began to wonder what she should do with her time. There was still a bit of time left before she would be expected to be home. Glancing around Marwa spotted the other cub laying not to far from where she was. Immediatly a smile grew on her face.
She quickly changed her path and began to gallop towards the other cub. She hadn't really met anyone in the pride other then her family members, today seemed as good of a time as any to make a new friend. And why not start with a cub who looked to be around the same age she was.
"Hello" she chirped as she came up beside him.

In the waning sunlight Mydas quietly admired the other cub's fur. It was bright, almost the same color as his father's mane. "Hello," he replied softly, his voice barely a whisper over the crashing of the nearby waves. He hoped she could hear him -- he didn't like yelling -- and so he raised his voice just a notch more before introducing himself as he'd been taught to do.
"I'm Mydas," he dipped his head, the smile on his lips echoed in the depths of his pale blue eyes. Though he wasn't dancing and prancing around in childish vigor, he showed his pleasure in making her acquaintance through smaller gestures like his bright smile.

The male cub seemed pleasent enough. Marwa took a minute to eye him up and down taking in all the information she could about him. The male was sandy in color he almost blended into the sand under him, his main fluff and tail tuff was what caught Marwa's eye though they were bright just like she was... well not quite as bright. His eyes were a very pretty blue color... he fit well into the pride not like her.
"Why hello there Mydas" Marwa said in return, she had to listen carefully to what the male was saying as he spoke very quietly but she didn't mind. It meant that the exchange was more personable right? "My name is Marwa its very nice to meet you." she laid down across from him to watch him as they spoke. Marwa liked to study others and how they interacted.
"How are you today Mydas?" she asked hoping to maybe kick start a conversation.

She was interesting, he thought to himself. Unlike Mydas, she had no issue in making herself comfortable. Mydas had problems doing so, especially with company. He preferred the solitude of his own company. Idly he had to wonder if her personality was as bright as her fur. He hoped so.
"I was thinking," he said softly, turning his eyes towards the sea once more though that smile remained on his face. He didn't elaborate on that statement, seeming to almost fall back into the depths of his thoughts before shaking himself out of it. It was easy to sink into his own mind.
Turning back to face her, Mydas canted his head to the side. "And how are you today, Marwa?" He liked her name. He wasn't sure what it meant, but it suited her.

Marwa thought hard about this question how was she, "Well I am mostly okay, but today my fur is bothering." she didn't mean to sound so much like a girly girl. "It is so red, and contrast everything in our home, not like your lovely sandy fur Mydas. I am very jelous." Despite the fact that she was talking about something that was upseting to her, her voice was still bright and clear.
"I know its such a silly thing but its something that is almost always on my mind." she told him. She cocked her head to the side wondering what his thoughts on the matter might be and waiting to here them. She wasn't sure if he was the sort who would have anything to say about it, but then again he seemed like someone who thought a lot about a lot of different things so perhaps he would have soemthing to contribute.

"Your fur bothers you?" He tilted his head the other way, looking mildly confused by that. "Why would it bother you? It reminds me of the color of coral or shells that wash up on the beach, or the pretty flowers that grow near my den." He looked thoughtful for a moment, contemplating the hue of her fur.
"You should feel good about being different," he continued, wise words coming from a young cub, indeed. "I like your fur," he added, hoping to make her feel better about a sore subject. "Yes, it looks like a beautiful flower to me."

Marwa blushed a little which luckily was well hidden by her red fur. "You are very kind Mydas." she said a small smile on her face. "I guess I have never thought of the reefs or the flowers. I jsut always see the lovely blue and green pelts that most of our fellow pride mates." Marwa moved her feet in swirls in the sand, kind of embaressed about how the male had complimented her so.
"I am still a great fan of your fur Mydas, I like the sandy color, you blend in well. It must mean you are able to lie back and just study what is going on around you frequently." she was a little jelous most lions saw her coming a mile away and she would never be able to catch them doing something interesting.
Marwa looked up into the sky and realized that the sun was getting lower she was soon going to have to go. She found herself actually sad that they would have to part ways and Marwa had already grown very fond of the male.

She'd hit the nail on the head. Yes, he was able to merely sit idly by and observe the activities of others, but it also meant that he was oftentimes overlooked. He didn't mind, honestly; he wasn't one for being in the spotlight. No, Mydas was perfectly content with sitting on the shore, watching life pass him by.
Dipping his head in a small nod, Mydas continued smiling softly at Marwa. His new-found friend had such a nice voice, and he liked listening to her talk. "I don't mind the color of my fur, really," he said gently, looking down at his feet as he wiggled them in the sand. "I guess it suits me. I'm not very loud or talkative, so my plain fur makes sense." That was said as a joke, honestly, and Mydas laughed softly to himself.

Marwa scowled a little "Your furr isn't plain its beautiful! And you get to be a spy. I wish I was able to be a spy but most lions see me coming a mile away!" she giggled. It was odd she supposed for cubs to have such strong feeling about fur, but really there worlds were so small there wasn't much else for her to fret over other then fur.
Marwa turned her head up towards the sky again, the sun was getting low, which meant it was nearly dinner time. "I am sorry Mydas I have to go. My parents will have brought supper home soon I will get a talking to if I am late." she giggled neither of her parents would ever really yell at her it was a funny idea.
"We have to meet again soon though ok, and play or do something I dunno. But soon, maybe tomorrow.... same place... but earlier." she knew she was rambling but the sandy colored male was the first friend she had made and she really didn't want to leave now if it meant she wouldn't see him again soon.

Mydas nodded solemnly at her partings words. "I will be here. Same place, but earlier," he promised. He wouldn't let her down. He would probably show up hours prior just to make sure he didn't miss her. "I am glad we are friends, Marwa. You are nice, and I like your pretty fur and your voice." He didn't seem embarrassed to say this, not even a little. Mydas merely spoke the truth in his mind.
He rose to his own feet, fully intending on heading home as well. "Same place but earlier," he said again, hoping she wouldn't forget.

Marwa blushed a little and gave Mydas before she turned and headed towards her den. It had been a very productive day for the young cub. She would have a story to tell tonight while she ate with her family. A story about the sandy colored boy and how he was her new bestfriends. Marwa wasn't sure that he felt the same way but to her it was set in stone and thats all that really mattered.
There was a skip to her step as she walked back to her den her paws squishing in the sand as she walked squish squish squish.
