Dar'Ian was hunting in the starlight. His dark frame blending with the shadows as he silently drifted through the dark grass of the Savannah. The wind was soft and cool, carrying the smell of dozing antelope to him. The moon was nearly new so only the stars could give away his position.

The lepon felt oddly alone since his friend and constant companion Kuari was off hunting on his own. It was a brief discussant where Kuari explained that he wanted to hunt and think on his own, the younger male just didn't get it. The bird was his wing brother and he actually only ever really talked to Dar so why would he need time alone. Dar just didn't understand but that didn't mean he was mad just lonely.

Mani had been having one of her waking nights. Those nights designated by her inability to sleep, even though normally she'd be out like a light bulb. Perhaps a small hunt would help tire her out and help the dark pelted cheetah sleep. Though, the soft breeze and bright stars made it worth staying up.

It had been, again, one of those times where it had been sometime since Mani had seen another individual. Whether lion, leopard, cheetah or any cross between either species. Not that she ran into hybrids all that often, though. then again, prowling around at night, how many others would be out at this hour? Most would be slumbering in their dens with mates or family.

Another breeze blew by, tickling her nose with a familiar scent. Prey. She was a little slow to identify it, and decided to head towards the smell. Mani was sometimes rather simple, but was just better with working things visually.

Dar'Ian edged closer to where he could now hear the breathing of the antelope. They were impala and in the dark of the night their normally reddish-brown was faded to a gray-brown. Dar could easily distinguish the rams from the ewes since the large dark horns of the rams were visible in the light. The horns and hooves where what the lepon needed to keep an eye out for since a well placed one would seriously injure him.

Dar kept to the edge of the herd, a distance away, trying to gauge the best time to spring. To him it appeared that most were asleep but there were a few that were still awake and watching for predators such as himself. He knew that to just go charging in would be a bad idea and he had the time to plan. The wind was in his favor, he had made no sound to give away his position, and the moon just went behind a cloud. Dar glanced at the sky and saw a large cloud drifting over the moon, making it harder for the impala to spot him. With a grin the dark lepon began his crawl towards the nearest antelope, the closer he was the better his chances were when he sprung.

Mani ducked down once she got close to the source of the scent. Impala. Tasty, tasty, Impala. Sure, the lone cheetah was rather hungry. It's what happens when you stay up alot, your body requires energy to keep working. However, Mani wasn't sure that she was awake enough to do some hunting. Sure, most were still asleep but there was still a few bulls patrolling and keeping an eye out. Perhaps running would help wake her up some more? Perhaps. Or it could end up getting her hurt. Which wasn't something that she needed right now. ..Or ever, for that matter. Mani sighed softly to herself, hoping the noise didn't reach any unwanted ears.

Dar was about to pounce when a soft sigh reached his ears. It could have been the wind but it was not something he was going to take a chance on. If there were others who had the same idea that he did then he should take his chances and strike now. He hesitated a moment too long and the wind that was favoring him turned, carrying his sent and whoever else was out there directly to the impala.

The impala, smelling predators, began to stamped away from the crouching Dar. He gave chase but it became apparent early on that he would not be catching anything that night. As the last impala raced into the dark the lepon stood under the moonlight and watched them go. "Damn it." He cursed his luck and made a silent vow that he would not tell Kuari. The bird would never let him hear the end of it.
