I'm sure many of you enjoy some form of literotica or another, from an epic romance story complete with scenes of exciting love to those fanfics based on the Japanese concept of homosexuality.
Different individuals read these pieces of work for different reasons. For some, it's an issue of romance and escapism. For others, it is a primer for their own dirty thoughts, and for others still it's a chance to invision acts that would otherwise be taboo.
I'm curious - of those of you who have read such works, what is it you enjoy most out of them? What do you seek out of them, and what seperates the truly noteworthy (in your eyes and preferences) over the truly forsakable?

I read dirty books because if I can't get a man or woman to pleasure me, I may as well as do a good job of it myself.
As well as expand my imagination too.
Aside from that, I would like to believe that reading erotica teaches me new tricks albeit that I haven't practiced any in the first place. I would also think that it feeds my sexual understanding and knowledge as well as confirms my sexuality even further (because for obvious reasons, if the book does it for you, it does it for you...)
I would say that I'm a perfect example of "Victorian Principles" in Leisure Suit Larry's "Love for Sail" game...I try to avoid those books otherwise I become a raging thingy with boobs wanting loving...except I'm clearly either too sober or intimidating for the silly boys for sexing.

Well, aside from a few fanfictions, erotic comics, and erotic stories, I haven't read any book-form literotica, really. Since not many people around know or condone the stuff, I wouldn't actually know where to get some of it without raising suspicions. (sp?) The stuff I do read, though has really interesting stuff, and helps keep my imagination nourished.
P.S. Holy s**t, Sethimothy, you're alive?! Nice to have you back. xd

I'm an avid reader and love to hop between science fiction, biography, nonfiction, and historical fiction, but I must admit I do enjoy an erotic novel once in a while.
Though exceeding detail of action and feminine frailty drive me insane with any other read, I am able to enjoy it in literotica. The details bring you into the sensual setting, alighting my appetite even more, and as for a delicate woman being ravished by a burly male...Well, er, that's been one of my favorite sexual fantasies. whee
I must say, however, that if the author is not of good taste, or an atrocious writer seeking out only sexual fantasies rather than a compelling story, I'll immediately set the book aside. I can't stand mediocre novelest who hope to achieve erotic enlightenment in a page and a half, continued with a new sensual scenario in another page and a half, and so on with a feeble plot and neglected character development.

Seori, are you suggesting the the sex AND the story has to be good?
Because if so, I whole heartedly agree.
And Vyce, I'm not Gaia much, but when I am, I'll make it a point to at least drop by and say "zOMG BANCAKES."

Sethimothy Seori, are you suggesting the the sex AND the story has to be good? Heck yes I am! If I want a pointless story overflowing with erotica, I'll download some random hentai manga (Most may be without a compelling plot, but the illustrations make up for that 3nodding ). Otherwise, I like to know the story behind the naughty duchess and her stable boy love slave. Rawr.

Seori's right. Even some good hentai, like Bible Black, had a decent story and some (albeit little) character development.

Lord Vyce Seori's right. Even some good hentai, like Bible Black, had a decent story and some (albeit little) character development. If those characters were any more developed they wouldn't be believable schoolgirls. Hi-yo~!

I agree full heartily...if I needed to get off on something mindless I'll make use of my Limewire Pro and a tube of KY Jelly. The whole idea and aspect of any story is to become intimate with the characters and be able to relate to them on some level - I mean, you end up screwing somebody for some reason and/or attraction that's involved not just for the sake to make sure your bits and pieces are fondled by somebody else because you're starting to get lazy.

I've got a Mind Control fetish, so I read the stuff at mcstories.com a lot. I vary between 'quick ********' and actual stories with mind control and/or sex as elements; it's all in the mood. As for mangarotica (my personal term for H-manga, just to be a bit different), I occasionally nab some 4chan content... But outside of just straight images, I prefer to be able to read the content.

I like yaoi fanfics. Though the couplings from the series that I read it for tend to be REALLY weird and not so common...And the only way I'll read a common one is if I was bored and/or something interesting happens. Like in Naruto, I'm totally for Kakashi/Gai and Orochimaru/Kabuto and Orochimaru/Jiraiya but I hardly EVER read Sasuke/Naruto (though I do like Kakashi/Iruka) except in this one really good mpreg I read where Naruto gets pregnant. I'm a strange child so ignore me.

Spiffy Negligee except in this one really good mpreg I read where Naruto gets pregnant. You're pretty strange. I mean, I understood you up to the point you used "good" and "mpreg" in the same sentence. I dunno, I've seen yifFic involving amputation that has failed to raise my ire, apathy, and annoyance levels the way Mpreg can.
