Rei was feeling rather lazy at the moment. He had unceremoniously invited himself to family meal with a small group of hyenas and afterwards, with a rather full belly weighing him down, the orange lion had climbed the beautiful old tree in whose branches he was now resting. He yawned loudly, feeling heavy and ungraceful as he fought to make himself comfortable amongst the small branches and leaves.
The lion sighed contently, narrowing his purple eyes at the soft breeze that ruffled his mane, completely uninterested by the sights and sounds of his surroundings with the small exception of a tiny bird that sang a pleasant tune just above the lion’s head.He still didn't know where the Pridelands were but, at the very least, Rei had to admit life was pretty good right now.

Khepri found herself alone. Well, she thought she was alone. She didn't like being alone, but today was a beautiful night. She held a smile upon her face as she moved slowly through the land. Not a care in the world, for the moment. She didn't have many friends, though she really wish she did. To spend a splendid night like this alone was almost a shame.
She was out on her normal walk. Though this wasn't her normal way of going. Figuring it was best to try out a new area, and see new things. That was what life was about, right? The little new things to add on to one's experience. There were trees this way, and even though Khepri couldn't climb up them, she liked sitting under them and listening to the birds chatter about.
Of course, today was such a good night, she didn't know if she'd stay under them for long. Though it was better to listen to them for a little bit, then not at all. Birds had beautiful songs, and she wished she could sing like them. She tired once. Tried to sing with them, they all mocked her and laughed at her. Though, she ended up laughing with them. It was pretty amusing to hear how horrible she sounded when singing.
What she didn't notice, was she wasn't really alone. She hadn't noticed the male lion in one of the trees as she started to approach it. Of course, she was watching the small birds fly about in the sky, as well as tried to watch where she was going. Her attention wasn't on the fact that there could be other lions about. Or other felines for that matter.

“Hello, miss.” She might’ve not noticed the lion resting in the low branches but it was hard for Rei not to catch the movement out of the corner of his sleepy eyes. It was best to make his presence know before she caught his scent and worried about being stalked by a silent male. He didn’t want to frighten her after all.
“Out for a walk?” he looked up, watching the stars with warm smile. A long time ago, or perhaps not too long, he sat on the ground doing the exact same thing as his mother told him stories of the great kings of the past. Pridelands stories.

She almost jumped when she heard a voice. At first she thought it was a bird, though the voice was much to deep and sounded like it came from something much, much bigger then a bird. Though, her eyes still shot up towards the birds above. She moved her eyes lower in one of the trees the voice had come from. The bright orange lion stood out like it didn't belong. How could she have missed him? Then again, when she was busy with other thoughts it was quite easy for her to miss something. Even if he was bright.
She smiled at him kindly, he seemed like a nice fellow. At least for the split moment. "Hello there!" She said happily. She had stopped moving completely, as she looked up at him. Not quite making it to her true destination. "Yes, so I am." She said with a nod. "I'd ask you the same, but it looks like you're trying to sleep. I apologize for interrupting."

“Oh, no! Don’t worry about it!” Rei said quickly, standing up at once. He always had time for a friendly face… especially if it was female. “I had just settled down for a nap. Were you watching the stars?”
He had intended to come down and have a word with the lioness on the same level – talking from above did seem a bit rude, after all – but that didn’t go exactly as he’d planned. He was still feeling rather heavy and awkward up there and when he tried to move, one paw slipped. And then one branch broke. And then all of a sudden, the orange lion dropped through a couple of branches, hit the crooked tree trunk and landed heavily on the ground.
“HUUFFF! That hurt…” His words were muffled. His vision went black for a few seconds and he didn’t move from where he’d fell. Rei remained very still, ears ringing, waiting to regain full control of his body as he let out a pained groan.

She shook her head "No, I was watching the Owls!" She said with a smile. They were pretty birds, and they had lovely music. Especially when it came to night time. She couldn't think of seeing one during the day. She watched him slip and fall to the ground. She winched and gasped as she was shocked he fell.
She rushed over to the male after a few seconds. "Are you okay?!!" She asked him. She didn't know what to do if he was hurt, she wasn't good at this stuff. She was going to panic if he wasn't okay. "Did you break something?!!" He wasn't saying anything, which was freaking her out more, and he wasn't really moving. Should she touch him? Should she call for help? What could she do? Her heart was pumping fast.

Rei wasn’t feeling particularly good but he reacted at once when he heard the patched girl’s voice. His ears twitched and he tried to stand, wobbling to the right and then to the left until the lion somehow regained his balance. He wasn’t experiencing embarrassment yet – it would probably come later most likely – but he did feel a little sick. Like he was about to throw up the nice meal he’d been so happy about. Cautiously, he sat back down.
“I guess… lions shouldn’t play leopard.” He tried to laugh but it was still a little hard to think at the time. One of his shoulders hurt more than he cared to admit but the poor girl looked worried enough him wondering if he’d earned himself a permanent injury. The orange lion tried to be discreet as he tested the movement of his toes, tail and neck. “No broken bones… I think.” Well, he hoped.

She wasn't totally convinced at him when he told her nothing was broke. She wanted to know for sure, I think, wasn't good enough. She frowned at him. "Are you sure? Do you need something? Can you walk?" She was slightly panicking, though it wasn't as much now that he was up and looking at her. She wasn't good with this stuff, and didn't know how to handle it well. At least he wasn't in pain, or at least showing he was in pain. She didn't know what she'd do if he was. She wasn't a healer at all.
She didn't find his joke too funny, then again later she probably would when she thought about it. "I just.... I can't do much if you do need something" She said almost helplessly. Though, it seemed he was okay, so she tried to relax a bit more. She wanted to place a paw on him, to look over his body for him. But to be truthful, she didn't know what to look for if something was wrong. "You sure you're okay?" She finally asked. She couldn't help but worry about others. It was what she did.

“All good, all good.” Rei said quickly. Oh boy, she looked really worried. He was pretty sure he could walk but, doing his best to ignore the sharp pain in his shoulder - very uninviting to any kind movement – Rei decided to humor her question with a little demonstration. He took a few steps forward and then returned to the same spot to sit, trying to act as naturally as possible. Still, an almost imperceptible limp could be noticed if one was paying really close attention. “See? I’m ready for another one.”
He laughed a little even if his stomach was only now beginning to settle down. He figured his shoulder would be fine as well. Now that he thought about it was the first time he’d taken a fall like this. It was actually a little… scary. Better not to think about it at all.
“Well, now that I’m done humiliating myself in front of a pretty girl…” the orange lion grinned, trying not to take things too seriously – humor had a way of keeping feelings like shame and awkwardness away. “I think I should introduce myself. I’m Rei.”

She wasn't sure she was completely convinced he was okay. Though, he seemed okay. She wasn't able to point out any hint of pain in him. Then again, she wasn't an expert about pain, and only knew if they showed it they must be in pain. If they didn't, then all was fine and dandy. She finally eased up on the idea of him being hurt. At least, that was over. She didn't like the idea of having to go for help because she was completely useless when it came to that sort of thing.
She giggled at his pretty lioness thing, she wasn't very pretty in her eyes. She was about average, if that. She wasn't sure, not did it matter to her. "Nice to meet you, Rei." She said with a small incline of her head. "I'm Khepri" She smiled at him with a nod as she introduced herself at as well.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Khepri." Rei said pleasantly, bowing his head in a slow and deliberate movement. He was quite happy that he’d found a lioness that seemed both cheerful and friendly which was a rare combination as far as his experiences went. Then again, the fact that she was being so nice could be due solely to a certain degree of surprise and concern caused simply by his abrupt fall.
“So… what’s so interesting about the birds?” the orange lion asked casually, happy to keep the conversation far away from the topic of possible injuries. He wasn’t particularly interested in the night creatures. If he had to think about it, he supposed he enjoyed the quiet of the night mingled with the occasional call of a nocturnal animal. It was most pleasant, really, and even if the orange lion was certainly a creature of the day, the night time still held his interest even if he was no longer a young cub trying to awake at night in order to explore the darkness. The night always had that air of stillness and mystery Rei found quite so enticing. “Do you usually watch them alone?”

( My apologies )
She smiled at him. How could he not see it? "Their songs, silly." She told him with a giggle. She hadn't forgotten about what had happened, but he did say he was okay. She was less concerned about it, even if he might be faking it for her sake. "They have wonderful songs during all hours of the day. Owls at night, Morning birds in the sun rise, and so on" She said with another small smile. "They just are absolutely lovely. I hope one day one will be kind enough to be my friend" Of course, that was a silly dream. Considering not often did birds let lions be their friend. They much rather fly away in case the lion were to eat it.
"Oh, well.... Yes" She said with looking away from him. "I don't really have any friends to share it with." She said glancing up at him. She didn't know hardly anyone, though she'd love to meet more lions, and other creatures. They just never give her a real chance. Either finding her too friendly, too noise, too happy, or whatever. Though, she'd try until she found the perfect bunch of friends. Even if it took a long time.

“Their songs?” Rei thought aloud, considering the idea carefully. “I suppose they are quite lovely. Well, some of them at least.”
The orange lion stood up but refrained from stretching even though he really wanted to. It wasn’t just rude; In this particular case, it would probably also be painful as well.
“I’ve been seeing a good number of lions who are accompanied by birds.” He was thinking out loud again, remembering all the times he’d met someone with a companion bird. “At first I found it rather unusual but apparently it’s more common than I thought… perhaps you’ll get your wish. It’s a little dangerous to be on your own sometimes, I hope you haven’t run into trouble yet.”
He felt a sudden dizziness as he tried to move and promptly stopped to see if it would go away.
“Would you like to go to the closest waterhole to have a drink?” Rei asked pleasantly and grinned, hoping Kephri hadn’t noticed his mild distress. He could certainly use a bit of water right about now. “I don’t have any friends out here either.”

She nodded when he repeated what she spoke of. "Yes, if you listen carefully they tell you their story" Then he went to saying something about birds who actually liked lions. She gasped. Her dream was to have a little feathery friend. "Are.... Are you telling the truth?" she asked him carefully making sure she heard right. "There are lions with birds as friends?" She couldn't believe what he said. Then again, she really didn't know anyone. "I... I thought birds never liked lions." Or at least the ones she has met.
She'd normally get taunted by or things thrown at her if they noticed her listening to their songs. If only they knew her true reason for listening to them. Though, they never gave her the chance for it. She smiled at him. "You've given me hope, yet!" she said with a small giggle. She didn't realize how much one person could change your determination. It was a great feeling.
"Are you sure you want to walk?" she asked him. He did say he was okay, so he should be okay to walk. "if you can, then of course." She like her new friend. He seemed to be the perfect lion to be around for the moment.

Rei was quite happy – and a little –surprised with how happy the lioness looked when he told her about familiars. He didn’t really have a lot of experience with them but he could say for certain that he didn’t dislike the little feathered creatures – with the possible exception of vultures, who could be particularly pesky things when a lion was trying to enjoy a meal in peace.
“I hope you get your wish then.” He grinned, looking up as he spoke almost as if expecting a bird to drop from the skies and land on ground between them. Rei chuckled when she asked if he wanted to walk. “I think so. A bit of water might do me well. But I’ll only know for certain if I try.”
He laughed again, tilting his head a little and momentarily forgetting the pain on his limbs when he looked into Khepri's red eyes. “Shall we, my lady?”
