This was bad. Very very very bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. The small horse felt a twinge of something akin to fear slowly travel up her spine. Gone were her normal surroundings: the lush greens and browns of the seaweed; the bright pinks and oranges of the coral; the shimmering blue expanse of water, so transparent you could see everything for miles around. Instead, the water was thick and murky. Her field of view extended to a mere meter ahead of her. There was no foliage that she could distinguish, nothing to hide her from the predators she knew lurked somewhere out there. But she still had her speed and size, agility had to count for something. A thrill of pride warmed her, she was better than anything, even here!
But that did not change the simple fact: she was lost. She could neither remember how she ended up here, nor where she had come from. She'd been swimming, following some shiny or other, and when she looked up there she was. The weight of the water felt several tons heavier than usual. She shook her fins nervously, but bit her lip determinately. She was not scared! She was better and faster than anything out here, wherever "here" was.
But despite her brave thoughts, her swimming was slow. Each wave of her tail had an edge of caution to it that was unlike the Seathi. Where was her fun coral? She didn't like it here.

Nessie had once again banished herself to the depths of her home water. It had been another normal day, just like any other. She wasn't dismal like normal, she was more just....thoughtful. She was enjoying the stillness down here. There didn't seem to be anything or anyone alive down here. Everything was completely still, no current...not fish...no life. It was amazingly still. It had been a long time since she had experienced that....Hannibal was always there, always dismal...always complaining. He had always been the embodiment of her misery, like a part of her that had broken off and followed her around to remind her that she should be miserable. That she had every right to be miserable. But she didn't want to be, she was tired of this. "Hmmm...You seem too good a mood today." Hannibal lurched out from under a rock. "Why so bright? It's positively sickening." He floated easily on his back, looking at her with his macabre face. Nessie turned, "Why do you have to be like this. Just go way!" "You know, I'll never leave you." He laughed gutterally, "Ohh...we have...company."

Bubbles caught in her throat as an eerie laughter thundered through the dense water. The Seathi's fins froze for a second, her stomach slowly sinking. Something else was down here. But no! She couldn't show she was scared. Determinedly raising her head, she thrust her tail up and down a few times to propel herself forwards, stabilizing her swimming with her legs.
I am Cyllene, the fastest and strongest Seathi ever born. I'll show them. I'm better than anyone. I can take them! I'm the mistress of hiding and taunting. A slow trickle of confidence warmed her veins, though her shoulder muscles remained rigid with tension. Every swirl in the water had her attention. She was just... being cautious. Yes, that was it. Not scared, no.
Besides, she added mentally to herself, There's a chance whatever it is didn't see me. Not that there's much to see in this miserable place anyway. Gulping deeply, she propelled onwards. In what direction? Even she didn't know the answer to that.

Nessie eased herself forward, eager to see what...or who was nearby. Enemy? Friend? Danger? Or just someone lost...You never knew here. It could be. Anyone. Anyone at all.
Looming through the dark shadows, clinging to each dark place. She made her way forward until she could see the outline of something small. A flounder maybe? No...a Seathi. She'd never seen one before, she'd heard them spoke of. But this was interesting, and quite...tiny. She eased forward, trying not to alarm it.

Though the Seathi saw nothing, she could feel a watchful presence somewhere nearby. Her eyes darted backwards for a moment, a small lapse in her brave shell. Yet, nothing seemed to be there. Was this what they called déjà vu? She thrust her tail faster, her fins flickering at her sides.
"Whoever's there, come out!" She called bravely, though her small voice quavered and came out quieter than she had hoped. A few small bubbled rose nervously from the side of her mouth. I can take you! I dare you to show yourself! She sent a mental challenge, inwardly hoping her follower was something rather small as opposed to giant.
Her eyes scanned the murky water. Curse these eyes! Why did she have to be so used to the shallows? Pretty, colorful water was so much easier to observe.

Nessie stayed back, a little amused at the tiny creatures entreaties for her to come out. It had a lot of spunk for something so...small. But it amused her. Proceeding carefully, she came into the open.
Just close enough for her form to be seen. "Are you sure you want me to show myself, little one?"

As a large form drifted into view and a booming voice spoke, Cyllene froze. A small squeak escaped her lunsg as her fins pressed in close against her body, instinct trying to make herself look smaller and more innocent. A few panicked bubbles blew out of her nose.
But the fear did not last for long before a wave of recklessness flooded through her once more. Her rapture broke as she puffed out her chest and narrowed her eyes. "You don't scare me! Come out!" But that creature was big. The bulky form was many times greater than her own.
Maybe.. maybe she could use that to her advantage? Surely the giant thing was slower than she was! Squaring her shoulders, she shook her mane in defiance.

Hannibal, the turtle, laughed loudly. "Do you hear, she's not afraid of you? She'll be changing her tune soon! Who isn't scared of a monster like you?"
There came an angry growl for a moment. "Hannibal shut up." The form flicked it's mighty tail forward and loomed into actual vision. Long, ten foot long or so. Smooth, completely smooth. No flowing locks, just a crooked smile that revealed long jagged teeth. Her grey eyes wide staring at the small one.
"It's a cute little thing Hannibal. Very small. Kind of adorable." Nessie was intrigued, "Are you...a...seathi?"

((Apparently Seathi's have a special power where they can blow semi-solid bubbles that stay in one place for a while xD Found it in the RP guide, if you're wondering what she's doing))
Hearing a second voice, the Seathi's fins bristled. This one sounded even more unpleasant than the first. And suddenly a huge shape loomed into view. Terror swamped her mind for a second. Why did she have to get lost HERE? Almost as an involuntary reflex, Cyllene blew a series of small bubbles. The bubbles did not float away, staying where she had blown them, almost like a shield. A very bad shield against something so big.
Baring her teeth, the Seathi forced herself to stop with the bubbles. Instead, she swam upwards to peek out at the creature just above her make-shift shield. Her eyes flashed boldly, "Of course I am a Seathi! I'm the biggest and best and fastest and strongest Seathi ever. What's it to you?" Her manners did not improve much, despite the situation.

Nessie laughed her deep gutteral laugh, switching her tail and watching as the bubbles all began to burst. "I'm Nessie. I've never seen one...and nothing so small that's still one of us." She stuck her nose and full set of shark-like teeth close to see the seathi.

The seathi cringed as she found large, sharp teeth mere inches away from her face. But she held still, refusing to flinch. She would not show she was weak. Size meant nothing! And why had the giant thing compared the two of them? There were sea-dwellers, true, but the Seathi was so much better than she was.
"Cyllene." She paused, tasting the mer's name for a second. But now did not seem like the time to start giving out degrading nicknames. For once, she would let the other one keep their name. "Small I may be, but I'm bigger than you in all the departments that matter!"

"Oh, I see." Nessie swished her tail in a disgruntled way. "Already deciding that you're better than me? Judging me for how I look?" She swished her tail again angrily, before forcing herself to calm down.
"I won't hurt you, Cyllene. And what departments would those be?"

For a second, the Seathi bristled. Her vain and flaunting tongue had got her in deep waters again, both figuratively and literally. "Well.. I'm... I'm Cyllene! I'm... er... famous! Have you not heard of me?"" She stumbled slightly, gulping at the giant teeth again. "I don't judge by look. I'm smaller and therefore more agile. I can move individual body parts faster than others. I know how to have fun the best!"
But as the creature, Nessie, said she wouldn't hurt her, a weird sense of ease spread through the small Seathi. "Well that's a relief. I thought you'd try to eat me." Suddenly she bristled again, realizing her act had slipped, "Ya'know, not that you could catch me to eat me anyway. Er... faster, right?" Her attempt was half-hearted, but she was still a little teenie itsy bitsy bit scared that the mer would eat her. But only a tiny bit. It was negligible really. But still there.

Nessie laughed gently, "Of course, I won't hurt you. I eat fish, real fish." She watched the little seathi, trying to pretend to be so great. "And do I not have those capabilities?"

The seathi paused for a second, waggling her ears, "I eat fish too." She grinned, revealing two slightly sharp teeth towards the front with dull teeth at the back. "But only the little ones." Her shoulders relaxed slightly now that she knew she wasn't going to be supper. But she had heard a second voice. The mer had told it to shut up. Would Nessie save her if that thing tried to eat her? She decided that for once, perhaps it was best to be a little polite. But maybe only a very little bit.
"Well... I guess you're probably pretty fast. And you're scarily quiet when you creep up on unsuspecting seathi. Maybe you have some capabilities, but not as many as me!" Her voice was teasing though, no longer flaunting as obviously as she had before. The last bit was a joke. Mostly.
