Claire walked briskly down the hallway of the grunt dormitories, ignoring the small signals that tried to tell her she was hungry and she should eat. It was past her usual time for dinner, but she had skipped it due to her current state.

To anyone who didn't know her, she would look perfectly normal - pale skin, dark hair, walking erect and with purpose.

To anyone who did, they would notice her face a noticeable shade paler than normal, her eyes slightly wider with a distinct hint of fear and anxiety despite the impassiveness of her face.

She stopped in front of a specific door, obviously not her own because she reached a gloved hand up to knock quickly on the door. Her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest at any minute, and keeping herself so composed was using all of her resources. At the moment, she was running on pure nervous energy.

Maybe she shouldn't have skipped dinner.

The man in that room had been using all of the free time at his disposal to ensure his various weaponry was in its top form. It had been some time since he had last cleaned them, and it seemed a time was approaching that they might be of use. The maintenance also served as an ideal means of procrastinating from the decision that needed to be made, a decision he dreaded making and wished nothing more than to pretend didn't exist.

The knock on his door was an even better distraction than his firearms, and he moved to open it, though he already had a good idea of who it might be. Cool blue eyes and a collected expression greeted the anxious woman standing on the other side.

"I take it you've heard the news?" His phrasing was nonchalant, but his tone was grim.

"Is it that obvious?" She asked, carefully and quickly sliding past him into the room so they could talk privately about it. And so she could have a nervous breakdown privately, if it came to that. She didn't need to have one of those in the middle of the hallway - crying there had been bad enough.

Once inside she leaned her back against the wall with a sigh, her fingers trembling as she pressed her palms over her eyes. Actually, she realized, her everywhere was trembling, and she was a nervous wreck. "I found out all about it this morning," she explained after taking a deep breath to try to soothe her nerves. It didn't work. Her hands lowered with a wavering sigh and she happened to see the assortment of firearms laid out on the bed. Obviously that was his bed, not his roommate's. After a moment or two of studying them, she raised her gaze to meet his, or attempt to. Concern was present in her expression now, as well as the fear and anxiety that had been plaguing her all day long. "What do you think will happen?" She had a pretty good idea of it - she was going to die, of course - but it would be nice to hear something else, maybe something more positive, from someone else. Then again, Luke wasn't exactly the type who seemed that positive about much.

He closed the door behind her as she entered and turned to seat himself in a chair. "First of all, I think you should calm down," he said. "We can't afford to make mistakes, now more than ever. That said, I don't think we have as much to worry about as we might think." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "They appeared in Johto, which is a good ways away from here. Granted their appearance in Camphoreon was... a little close to home, but I don't believe they know where we are. Otherwise we likely would have faced some kind of invasion by now." His first task, obviously, was to talk Claire away from the ledge. Fortunately he had already thought points that would do so in order to keep himself level.

"I know," she said with a heavy sigh as she followed his example and moved to sit on the floor, her back leaning against the side of the bed. She didn't want to be too imposing and sit on it - entering the room without prior permission was bad enough, but they couldn't very well talk in the hallway. Plus her mind didn't want to accept too much rational thought yet.

She buried her eyes behind the palms of her hands again, sighing again, but this time it held a more frustrated tone. "I'm trying, but.. just.. Arceus, I'm scared.." Pulling her hands down into her lap, she started breathing more deeply again in a conscious effort to force herself to calm down. After a few moments of this and feeling at least a tiny bit better, her violet gaze shifted to his face again. "I was worse this morning. Terrified, actually. But," she added with another sigh, "I think I'm alright for now."

A pale, slightly shaky hand reached up to tuck a bit of dark hair behind her ear. "I know they were in Johto. That's where I went actually, after the mutiny. I went there and joined up almost immediately, and it was barely two months later that rumors of Galactic activity started cropping up. I requested a transfer to avoid it, but obviously it didn't do any good." They were here now, after all. "I know we're safe in here, but we can't hide in the base forever." She wouldn't, it was too horrible being cooped up for six weeks waiting for her arm to heal. Being stuck there for an indefinite amount of time would be pure torture. Then again, it was better than being dead, so it was the lesser of two evils.

He breathed a short sigh and pulled his glasses from his eyes, working a smudge from the lens. "There's no need to be scared. No harm will come to you. I will make sure of it." His gaze was firm and assured, though his vision was terribly distorted without the aid of the corrective lenses. The assortment of weaponry, much of it modified by his own hands to pack the deadliest punch possible, served as a physical representation of that promise.

"They're not pursuing us," he reminded. "Their goals conflict with Rocket's, so the two are clashing. We just happen to be caught up in between. I doubt they even know we're in Kodo, let alone that we're members of Team Rocket."

The fact that Galactic had suddenly reappeared was a concern, but its repercussions were what most worried Luke. He was certain that Lucas, on learning the news, would respond every bit as dramatically as Claire. He had devised a possible way of preventing it, but... His expression became pensive, even bitter, as the thought persisted.

As he spoke she slouched down a bit, pulling her knees close but not clinging to them like she had before. Instead, her wrists rested on them while she played with her fingers, frowning thoughtfully. His words were indeed reassuring and seemed to calm her further. She was still nervous, of course, but not on the verge of a panic attack or anything. At least, not yet. "I agree," she said with a small sigh, still pondering. "But if they continue to clash and eventually - inevitably - we're pulled out of the base for missions - what then?"

She frowned, then peered up at Luke. "I know I've been more scared than I should be. After defecting from Galactic I went so far as to completely change my hair and eye color, so the chances of my being recognized are quite slim. The irrational part of me is still panicking, of course, I'm still scared - but I know I needn't be so much." While looking into his face, searching his expression for any sort of relief - why couldn't all of this be a terrible dream? - she couldn't help but note that he looked thoughtful. She couldn't tell what sort of thoughts they were - but it was Luke, so it really couldn't be anything too positive. "What is it?"

"Cross the bridge when we come to it." It was what he planned to do, anyway. "There's no guarantee that the two of us will specifically be asked to participate in these missions. And if we are..." he leaned back in the chair, "all we have to do is succeed. You grown since you left Galactic, haven't you? Have faith in your own abilities." He accented his words with a small nod of his head before replacing his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

"Hm?" Ah, he must have let his thoughts get the better of his features again. "Mm, nothing terribly important." Lie. "It's just that I'm not sure how to handle this matter that it would be best for Lucas." Also a lie. He had knew full well what the best path was. It was merely a question of his own resolve.

Yes, of course - it wasn't a matter either of them needed to worry about at the moment. As long as they were in the base, they were safe. Even she would be alright, perhaps, if she left for a short time here or there - she was quite confident in the change in her appearance, at any rate - but it would still be a risk.

She shifted a bit, watching him curiously. It was nice to have a distraction from worrying, even though she knew she shouldn't at the moment. "What do you mean?" A pause, in which she seemed to consider something. "Does Lucas know yet..?" It had been odd that it was Luke that greeted her, not Lucas, when all he was doing was... sitting here by himself cleaning guns. Did Lucas know how to clean them? Maybe, maybe not.

"No, he doesn't. I learned of Galactic's appearance though a meeting with an elite, so I've been maintaining dominance since then to keep him from hearing it on is own and panicking." Sort of like what seemed to have happened to Claire. He brought up a hand and rubbed his forehead, as though doing so would dislodge some genius idea. "...Honestly, I know how I need to proceed. But..." His hesitance was all the more proof that it needed to be done.

That was.. oh, man. Not good. When was the meeting? It had to have been earlier, by several hours at least, and he'd been in control since then. She shifted a bit, frowning thoughtfully as she tried to puzzle it out. Luke couldn't stay in control forever, and Lucas had to find out eventually.. He would likely - no, definitely panic when he heard, obviously Luke was trying to prevent that, but... "He has to find out sometime," she commented quietly, knowing that Luke more than likely had come to that same conclusion. But that hesitation... What did he mean? "But what?"

His hand found a resting place at his temple. "I know. It's not as though I want to hide it from him forever. That would be impossible. I just want him to be prepared for it." A slight shudder shook him, as though a particularly frigid draft had found its way to the back of his neck. "I need to vanish. I can't support Lucas anymore, not with things at the point they've reached. But..." There was that but again. He couldn't quite wrap his head about it, but, "I suppose I've gotten rather... attached. To this whole concept of existence."

Wow, that was... wow. More to puzzle over. Obviously Lucas needed to find out sometime, and it would be best if he found out sooner rather than later. But this whole vanishing thing - that was hard to wrap her head around. It was like a friend or acquaintance telling you they needed to kill themselves for some specific reason - a suicide mission, of sorts, but just.. without going anywhere. They'd just disappear. Cease to exist. "Of course you have," she said gently, the traces of anxiety and fear gone from her face and her voice. "You've been alive - what, almost 30 years? Of course you're attached. It must be frightening to think about." She couldn't imagine sitting there, considering death as the only option so calmly. But...

"Is it necessary, though?" Why did he have to disappear completely? That wasn't something she fully understood.

He spared a glance at the hand that lay in his lap at her choice of words. 'Alive' was a thing he had always defined in the sense that it was opposite to 'dead' - in short, an overall positive state of being, but something to be attached to? Only in the sense of self-preservation, from Luke's own experience. Until he had been confronted with need to give it up, at least. "It's not the first time I've considered this option," he said, shaking his head slowly. "Early on, I did a bit of research. You know as well as I that the fact that I exist is abnormal. Dissociative identity disorder. It's considered a fairly serious mental illness, I believe." Though it was a bit strange to refer to himself as an illness. "It is not infrequently that I've considered vanishing, but the reason I've always chosen to stay is for Lucas's sake. They were decisions born from logical conclusions. I've never struggled against this... this reluctance." He wouldn't use the word 'frightening,' per se... Mostly because 'frightened' generally referred to the party at the other end of his gun.

"Necessary? Yes. I feel that the cause of this reluctance may be because I've become so much more... real, in a way. If things proceed in this direction, I'll lose all sense. I may even attempt to subdue Lucas entirely." It was only a hypothetical possibility, but the threat seemed very real to Luke.

She nodded at the mention of the disorder - Isadora had called it by the same name. "I did a bit of research myself after meeting you," she said while shifting to sit cross-legged on the floor once again.

Real? Oh, crap. And that last part had been Isadora's fear, too, one that actually could happen. She bit her lower lip slightly, shifting uncomfortably a bit. "I'm sorry if I inadvertently helped with that by calling you Luke." Crap, now she felt guilty and partially responsible for how hard a decision this was. Crap.
