The envelope had come at dinner time, slipped through the mail slot in the door by invisible hands. Kali sensed the magic coming before it arrived, and got up from the table to wait for whatever was coming. It was from Howl, she could tell, and thus was not worried by it. She opened it without fear when it landed in her open palms, quickly reading the letter. At first, she had been angry. What was his ISSUE?! What would it take to deter this kid?! She had explained to him, again and again, that she could not and would not have any sort of romantic involvement with him! Grinding her teeth, she considered not reading the rest of the stupid letter and heading over to yell at him right then and there. But, common sense prevailed, and she couldn't help but chuckle as she reached the end of the letter. She supposed that Howl thought he was funny. The question here was what she wanted to do to get back at him.
Hurting Howl, physically, was out of the question. Though he was like a younger brother to her, the fact remained that he was NOT actually related to her, and punishments that she could inflict upon Dimitri could not be used on Howl. No, she had to do something different to him. Dying his hair. He was so damn protective of it. If ever anything happened to it, he threw tantrums that could make Kong tremble in his booties. But, she supposed, he would not throw a tantrum if he thought it naught but innocent, normal hair dye. And, if he gave her permission.
So, she went and got a box of hair dye - red, "so they would match", and proceeded to walk her way to Howl's house, knocking on the door when she got there.

Howl opened the door, having expected a visit from either Kali or Lance. He found himself looking down at the red headed mage and smiled in relief. Surely she would be more merciful than her ever-angry boyfriend. "Hey Kali," he said cheerfully, seeing that she wasn't holding some kind of flowerpot or other weapon she could have used to murder him. "Come on in."
He paused when he noticed the hair dye. "What's that for?" he asked. Why would she have brought hair dye to his house? Did she plan on making her already beautifully red hair a darker shade? If so, why hadn't she done it at her own house? Realization seemed to strike suddenly, and the black haired wizard frowned.
"Oh no," he said. "I'm sure the letter didn't--Kali, I'd rather die than--" He led her inside. He was positive the letter hadn't caused enough damage for him to deserve absolute torture. "Dad's got a cold," he said. "I hope he doesn't give it to me."

"That's nice. I'm sure you won't get it." Kali said as she stepped inside, looking down at her nails. "Don't be such a baby, Howl. I've had this for a while. I figured I should bring it over for you, since I was coming over anyways to noogie your brains out." She paused, as if setting her vengeful intentions aside, and shook the box at Howl.
"I thought it would be fun. It's only temporary, and you did say you hated your black hair. Blonde would have been better, but the drug store was out of all the good shades. So I got red!" She beamed. "We can match! And then I can noogie you." She offered him the hair dye first. If she knew Howl, and she was pretty sure she did, the cowardly wizard would do almost anything to avoid a fight, or pain. Would he even submit to dying his hair?
Well, she was about to find out.

"I always do get it," Howl said. Knowing his immune system, he would eventually catch it. He looked at her doubtfully. This wasn't the fiery red-headed mage he'd expected after the letter he'd written. There was no doubt in his mind that the box that contained what Kali said was hair dye actually held something vile.
"Temporary?" He mused aloud. He supposed temporary dye wouldn't be so bad, if it didn't last long. "I suppose..." He still doubted the hair dye was actually dye--what if Kali had done something to it? What if it was poison that would seep in through his skull, drive him insane and eventually kill him?
"Alright," he agreed reluctantly. If only to avoid the promised noogie. "I'm sure matching is agreeable." Besides, Sophie had once said he was handsome with ginger colored hair.

"Well I'll make you soup if you do." Kali said. "And I promise. Everything inside this box is temporary." The hex on his hair, after all, would only last an hour, if anything. She wasn't so cruel as to leave it in long enough for someone, like Sophie, to see it. It was a harmless prank. And, the less time the dye was in his hair, the less time he had to slime.
"Of course matching is agreeable. C'mon. Let's go to the bathroom." She said, taking Howl's hand and towing him after her into the washroom. It didn't take her long to set everything up, and a little magic sped up the process.
"We've just got to put this stuff on your hair and leave it in for a bit." She said, wrapping a towel around his neck so it wouldn't stain. "Okay? I'll use my magic to speed it up." The dye, after all, was activated by heat. It wouldn't be any different than the spell she used to dry her hair in the mornings.

Even in the bathroom, Howl didn't seem to have very much faith in his friend. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously and shook his head. Did she really think he'd fall for that? If he allowed her to use magic, who knew what kind of evil spell she could place on him? He pointed to the hairdryer that sat on the edge of the sink. "No magic," he said.
He had experience with witches and hairdye. He was absolutely sure Kali would somehow mess this up; if she wasn't planning on intentionally doing so. "Are you sure you know how to do this?" he asked. "I could just bespell my hair so it was red, and we'd still match. We needn't go through all the trouble of dying it."
That and he wanted to get away from the red headed teenager as soon as possible.

"Howl, are you actually doubting my capability? I do this all the time with my friends. Min doesn't like leaving her hair the same color for more than a week...and I know you can just bespell it, but where's the fun in that?" She huffed. "You can't rely solely on magic. You have to know how to do some things like a normie." She coated Howl's hair in the solution and placed the cap around his head, grabbing the hair dryer. "This will take, like, hours without magic." She muttered, feeling rather contradictory. But, she switched the dryer on, and forced Howl to sit.
It didn't take TOO long (But it was a while) until she was able to wash the excess dye out of Howl's hair, drying it again and turning him to the mirror. "There!" She grinned, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Ginger. How's it feel to join the club?" She laughed and pinched his cheek, ducking down to clean up her mess. As she did, she shot him a glare over her shoulder, and said in the most deadly voice she could muster "Don't think I've forgotten about the noogie."

Howl stared at his reflection for a long moment. "I look like Prince Justin," he marveled. "Weird." He wasn't sure if he liked the color or not; it was a suitable, natural color, and yet--it didn't seem to suit him. "I prefer blonde," he informed the mage. He frowned as she pinched his cheek. He was taller than she was, after all!
"No noogies," he said. If there was one thing Howl hated more than having a hair out of place, it was the torture that noogies were. "And I think I prefer my way to yours," he added. "Yours is much...messier," he eyed the counter with some distaste. "Would you like something to eat?" he asked. "My older sister Almie came by and stocked the shelves with all kinds of sweets." He beamed; he clearly approved of this sister. "There might be some cake left."

"Sweets...?" Her intentions had been to leave before the hex took effect and changed the dye in Howl's hair from the ginger shade it currently bore to a vibrant, bright, hot-pink. She didn't want to be here when that happened, regardless of any promises he'd made not to slime in her presence. But..sweets... If there was anything that would keep Kali somewhere, it was the promise of cookies, cakes, and pies. She had a sweet tooth that could put even Luka's love for cheesy poofs to shame, and as Howl offered her cake...
Aw, hell, she couldn't resist it.
"I'd love a piece of cake, Howl." She smiled at him, using a spell to quickly clean the counter. Living with bickering children offered one plenty of opportunities to learn quick-clean spells. "What kind is it?"

After Howl's cake had become crumbs and bits of extra frosting, he chanced a glance at the dining room's mirror above the table. It was an old fashioned mirror, the sides were plated with gold with an ornate design. That wasn't what made Howl stop and stare; nor was it what caused him to drop his fork, and, with one remaining bite of cake upon it, sent it clattering to the floor.
His eyes widened in horror as he stood, as if to check if the mirror was correct in it's current accessment. He took a strand of his hair and moved it so he could look at it. All at once, the confused expression fell from his face, and for a brief, horrible moment, the wizard seemed to be about to cry. His face crumpled and eyes narrowed into despairing slits.
His hair was pink. Pink. His life was over. Absolutely over. If anyone saw him like this... He slumped into his chair, and without saying anything, buried his face into his arms. Kali hated him, then? Was this some form of revenge? He couldn't see what he could have done... He had only ever shown kindness to his favorite apprentice, after all. He had provided her with spells, cake, taken her out to ice-cream... He simply could not see what he had done to deserve such torture.

Kali had fully intended to take her cake and leave quickly. Really; it had been a plan of hers! But the cake was so good, and she couldn't help it... In fact, she had forgotten almost entirely about her hex on Howl, and so when he dropped his fork to stare in horror at his hair, she was as shocked as he was; she honestly, truly, didn't need to act. Of course, once she realized what was happening, saying that she didn't would be nothing but an enormous lie. But she had never had anything against lying, and she really was quite a good actress.
She had spent so much time worrying on what she was supposed to do that reacting now would just make her look stupid; so, she blinked, and continued to stare at Howl as if she had no idea what his problem was. "Howl...? What's wrong? Are you okay?" She had decided that the best course of action would be to pretend as if she saw nothing.

Howl looked up briefly. His glass-like eyes were narrowed, and an accusing frown had taken place of the expression of pure sorrow that had marred his features only moments before. "I know you did it," he growled. There was no doubt in his tone, no sign that he recognized her as a friend. "You don't have to act," he added, flashing the mage a glare.
He uncrossed his arms and banged his hands down on the table before using them to hold him up as he leaned towards her. "I know it was you," he repeated. "The dye must have had some kind of spell in it, and you're the only witch," he used the term he knew she disliked, "who would do this to me. Certainly your Zak wouldn't target me and have you play it out." He paused, and frowned at her. She couldn't fool him, pretending she couldn't see the horror that his hair had become. "It's pink!" He jabbed an accusing finger at the offending strands.
The irritation quickly turned into hurt. The teenage wizard felt betrayed. "Why?" he asked.

Kali had fully intended to keep up her act of innocence; but if there was one thing she hated more than people using her full name, it was being called a witch.
"Not witch." She hissed at him. "MAGE. And you'd do well to remember it, or I'll have to dye THAT into your stupid hair so you can SEE it every time you look in the mirror!!" She was yelling by the time she finished the short tirade, slamming her hands on the table and standing up, pushing her chair back as she did. "Why did YOU send me that stupid letter!? Did you think it was a funny joke to intentionally try and piss me off, Howl? Is that how you get your jollies? By AGGRAVATING your friends??" What was wrong with regular valentines/friendship letters? Why did he have to try and trick her into being mad at him??

"I--" Howl began hotly before frowning in confusion. "What?" All this because of the other he had sent? "Kali, is this really what this is about?" The anger seemed to fade, and in its place, confusion took reign over Howl's features. "You're really this upset about the letter?" He rose an eyebrow. Hadn't he explained that he loved her as a sister in the last few sentences?
"Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to anger you," he defended himself as he regained composure. "I figured you would appreciate the humor. Certainly I expected Lance to become angry...but the initial gesture...My intent was..." The wizard sighed and turned away. Whatever his intentions had been, it certainly hadn't been for this to happen. "I apologize for calling you a witch. A mage, I know."
He hung his head, pink strands of hair falling into his eyes for a brief moment. Then he looked up, his eyes filled with renewed flame. "Quit bitching," he snapped suddenly. "If you're going to insult me, do it properly. The old round of 'You're a vain, selfish, wicked, cowardly, stupid wizard' is always available. What's wrong with you, Kali? Did Lance break up with you?" Amid his anger was a not so cleverly hidden show of concern. Kali'd never done this kind of thing before.

"Right, right, because I'm going to fall back on THAT old tirade! Like you haven't heard it before." She snapped at him. "I'll b***h if I want, you vain, selfish, wicked, cowardly, stupid wizard. And NO, Lance didn't break up with me!" She seemed horrified at the thought, and shook her head. "I just can't believe you would start that letter out like that! It's not so funny, Howl! Not really!" Reflecting on it, she COULD see the humor; but she could also see the humor in Howl's bright pink hair, though it would only last an hour. She had to keep her eyes averted to keep from splitting into a wide grin. It almost suited him, but it was so absurd, she had to put in a large effort to keep from laughing at it.
"What's wrong with YOU?" She retorted, glaring at him. "Why don't you just SLIME and get it over with already, instead of turning into the bitchiest thing since a girl's first 'mense?"
