Hmm, perhaps this has already been discussed ad nauseum, but have you ever told someone you were listening to Oingo Boingo and they get this TOTALLY blank and vacant stare on their face, and go:
"Woingo Boingo?" Or "Boingo Boingo?" "Oingo Whago?" Etc Etc Etc?
What's the funniest thing you've heard them called? Mine's, alas, not that funny... I think it was "Boingy, boingy?!?!?!"
Of course the MKOTOB totally make fun of it in their own song, but still, it's interesting to see what people come up with!

If someone DID call them "Bingo" I would find their gizzard and punch them in it.
But, yeah, I get a lot of weird looks. Blank stares, head cocks. That sort of thing. At least "Oingo Boingo" is easy to say, once you know what it is that you're saying. sweatdrop

But now it's as natural as breathing! righto! When I first saw it, I wasn't even sure how to pronounce it. (Hey, we were all stupid in 6th grade! sweatdrop ) Then I had the Dead Man's Party cover (a Xerox) in my locker, and when friends would walk by me, they'd be like, "....*looking*...*hysterical laughing* WHAT DOES THAT SAY?! Oi...oin....ongo...Boigo? Nonono...OIngo...Bingo? ,....oh, OH, Oingo Boingo...got it, got it...well, that's the stupidest name i've ever heard." gonk but I think it's awesome whee ...there's evena Danny-quote where he was asked to explain where the name came from, and he replies, "It's one of those things that you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about. It just comes to you." And I was like, "whoa, crazy. That's perfect." 4laugh

But I think at one point he said it was Rick or something.. *can't remember too well* Probably was one of those things where it just kinda... HAPPENS... But I think the MKOTOB was around before Danny got into it, just barely. Or was it? AHHH!

Yes, MKOTOB was Rick's thing. He just kind of pulled the name out of his butt, from what I gather. Go Rick. whee heart

Shat. I love that word. I remember when I first told you my friend literally shat through the new year and you said "Um...shat?" and I said "Yes, he shat himself through the new year. Litterally."
But two of my friends thought for the longest time that it was Oinga Boinga. Don't know why, but they did. There's that one interview where the interviewer says "We're here talking with Danny Elfman of the Oingo Boingo" and Danny goes "That's right, Oingy Boingy."

My mom says "Oingy Boingy" on purpose. She's a preschool teacher. It's unfathomably irritating.
