Seeing as how the moral right has taken over the govenrment here in the Unites States, and the current president is a puppet of theirs, I saw it fit to start a thread. I want to know:
arrow Are you religious? If so, what do you practice.
arrow How does your religion view the issue of sexuality?
arrow How do you reconcile your sexuality with your religion?
Please, this is not a "my religion is better than your religion" thread. I'm only curious to see where everybody else stands.

I will be the first to post. ^^
I am Wiccan...in case you didn't already know or you couldn't gather it from my screen name. xd As far as Wicca goes...for the most part, it is totally accepting of alternate sexualities. However, there are those few--as there are in all other religions--who find ways to try and exclude gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people from the religion as a whole. With Wicca, there exists a concept of duality: light and dark, black and white, good and bad, right and wrong, male and female. In fact, when practicing in covens, it is often found that most covens have a High Piest and a High Priestess. Some people will use this to try and keep the gay community out of Wicca. They use the fact that some rituals call for a male and female of high degrees to run the entire show to their advantage. They see it as a justification for further discrimination.
Furthermore, there are rituals that involve a goblet with an elixir, usually wine, and an athame (dagger). The athame (male) is dipped in to the goblet with the elixir (female). They use this as a reason to discriminate.
Of course, like I said before, these individuals are few and far between. I would say that 90% of Wiccans are accepting of the gay community as a whole.
I heart Wicca.

ditto here. that's one of the main reasons i like Wicca so much-it's one of the more tolerant religions.

I don't really have a "religion" religions are based on exclusion and rules and hatereds, I'm a Gaian (and not it has nothing to do with this site just a pleasent coincidence) and I believe all life is sacred, no colors, no religions, no sexual preferances, just life liveing its way, so I have no problems with anyone unless they have a problem with me first and even then I usually wont care unless they insist on voiceing it evertime the subject comes up

I too am Wiccan. I used to be Catolthic but due to certain circamstances(spelling?) and events my life I turned away from it.
I tend to see the world in many different shades of grey. After is there such a thing a pure light living thing or pitch dark?

My religion is Wicca/Paganism and well, I don't think they're too bothered by what sexuality the practicers may or may not have/be...
So yeah... ((What's reconcile, though?))

Technically, I'm Catholic, mainly because I've gone through the whole Baptism thing and My Mom is Catholic. However, after finding out that I had been misinformed on many levels (in that they "accept" gays, but they basically still discriminate agains them) I decided to just break off from organized Religion and just do a kind of all encompasing thing - I dont think any one is right or wrong, but I figure that everyone's religion is basically the same (the aspects are similar - One dominant being, a Savior figure, many lesser workers, etc.) so its not like I'm gonna chose sides.
I just figure that if who or whatever created us this way, then I dont think that were all damned to oblivion, unlike what the Government is basically saying with their discriminatory actions. Its like were going back to the days of the Pilgrims and Predestination. *shudders* God, I hope they dont ever start a Gay Witch Hunt / Holocaust... That idea just terrifies me...
EDIT: Er, sorry I'm kinda bouncing around, but thats the best way I can answer your questions. sweatdrop

Technically, I was born, raised, and baptised a mormon. I love being a christian, and I sort of wandered away from it for a bit when I took interest in druidism. Now, I still hold its sacred view of all things living to be sacred as a basic virtue, but taking up the craft is something I really didn't really soak up a whole hell of a lot, some say it's because all of this Cristain "Bullshit" has been drilled into my head. But I always felt that I was walking too far away from the trinity, so it's kind of a stone tied to my wrist metaphorically speaking. To make a long post short, (but not really...) I'm now an independant Cristain, with a druidic-trancendentalist-naturallist twist. I know it's kinda hard to imagine right now, but if you feel the need to ask I can explain a little bit through PM's. For the most part it's spiritual and hard to break down into a description. Honestly, I think organized religion is for the birds... Literally. But, I don't have alot of friends or familymembers outside of my religion that criticise or prejudise. But when I was LDS, yeah, it was NOT permitted...

I am a bisexual aetheist who studies the religous teachings of Buhdism, Confuscionism, and Wicca. I have always loved how for the most part these religions dont care about your sexuality, and they dont press themselves on you.

I was raise and baptised a Mormon on my dads side and baptised a luthrin on the other. Yet whenever I went to church I could never get myself to believe what they were telling me. Now I don't really have a religion. I believe in Karma above all else, and that everybody should be given a chance to show who they are one the inside.
Bytheway...atheists do not beleve in any higher power, deity, or any divine being.

I have always loved how for the most part these religions dont care about your sexuality, and they dont press themselves on you. In Buhdism, if you take a look at their gods and goddesses most, if not all of them, have two sides: a male half and a female half. Shiva, the creator and destroyer, fell in love with the female half of himself and gave birth to the world. ^^ I love Buhdist theory. heart

Reconcile basically means how you deal with your religion on a personal lever. How do you practice both without having them come into conflict. And, yes, I do know you. I'm damn lucky. heart heart
