Sadly, majority of musicians quit music after they leave high school. Some rarely pick up their instrument again. Some played their last note in school and just gave it up.
Music is a gift, I never understood how anyone with it could give it up. After high school I continued playing my flute. Why? I love music. Now I'm joining a professional band.
My peers back when I joined this guild have graduated high school as well. Just wondering, to those of you: what did you do with your gift of music after graduating?

Music is one of my majors, so... sweatdrop
Funny enough, almost all of my good friends from high school band are continuing with music.

I'm graduating this June, but I definitely want to continue music. I picked a college not only because of its engineering program, but because it offers a fun marching band and a great wind band experience. I'd love to minor in it, but I don't know if I'll have the time in my schedule. I'm also marching corps this summer. Definitely no stopping for me. :]

I'm pursuing music after high school, too; primarily because I really want to get into a "local" (eight hours from my home, & three from the closest prospective college) drum corp. I'm not sure whether I want to pursue music education (like my pit tech, a role model of mine) or performance (to avoid scarring others for life), though. gonk

I'm still unsure if I'll be participating in college band or majoring in music. But I have already decided that I don't want to quit playing music at all! I'll probably just do pep band (still unsure about marching), or form a small group that performs when they can, that would be kinda cool.

The problem I have with this is that I want to continue music after I graduate, but the program at my school will be ending, and I have no idea how I could make music a career that makes money.

what ever school i go to after high school i hope to be in some sort of Pep/marching band or symphony or maybe find some other musical people and start a band. I can't ever imagine my life without music. Most days I'll just sit and play what ever instrument I'm in the mood for for hours.

I graduated HS last spring and am now a college freshman. I highly doubt I would make it as any type of music major (I consistently was in my HS's third band), so instead I opted to go into engineering. However, I wanted to continue music, both because I love it and because I need Fine Arts credits, so I'm now a proud member of my college's marching band. Next semester, I plan on auditioning for the non-major/secondary-instrument university bands so that I can keep doing concert as well.

I think it's the whole "starving artist" image. If you want to continue music after high school, you have to be pretty damn good. Most of us just aren't that good. We'll study whatever we study after high school, which won't be music, and after that, what's the point? If I can find an ensemble my level to play in, then I'll join it, no questions about it. But my sister didn't find anything in university; she later found pit band, but she didn't make it in; she's not a music student any more. As for me, I know I'm nowhere near good enough with my alto to get anywhere. I'm planning on playing piano, though. After I graduate, I'm going to look for a teacher near whatever uni I go to, and keep up RCM. I'm hoping to eventually be able to be a teacher. And graduate university with a degree in engineering.
