She stretched out languidly, her smile calm and even, yellowed hair flopping gently over an eye, both of which were a beautiful green. Her pale orange coat was dotted with freckles under the emerald, with pale apple-like markings on her hind flank. Shaking out her pelt, she had just come out of a quick jaunt into the water, just to keep cool~. The motherly Hyena purled softly, closing her eyes, and lay down slowly, wondering what today would bring
Kero was getting tired. He'd been searching for weeks now, and he still hadn't accomplished the goal his mother had set out for him. The adolescent hyena was on a hunt, and his prey had been continually elusive. If he didn't have so much faith in his parents, he would have thought that he'd been given an impossible task. But since he did trust his mother so much, he knew that he would find the end of the rainbow somewhere. But how to bring it back...?
Suddenly, his eyes, which had been tracking the flickering rainbow in the sky, spotted a lump stretched out on the ground... at the end of it! So this was th end of the rainbow! He'd found it after all! His tail wagging with happiness, Kero ran pell-mell at the orange lump, skidding to a stop just feet away when he realized that the end of the rainbow was, in fact, a hyena! And a female at that! No wonder his mother had sent him to find it - her - oh, wow, this was so much more important than he'd ever thought!
"Hello?!? Hi! Hi there! Miss Rainbow's-End! I'm Kero and I was sent to get you! You're a really bright color, did you know that? I haven't seen anyone with bright colors like you have before, me and my siblings - we're all grey? You'll come with me, right? Hey, can you fly? If you live at the end of the rainbow, you would have to be able to fly to keep up with it when it leaves! That's just amazing!"
She blinked as she heard a voice beginning to speak to her. Miss....Rainbow's-End? He was....adorable, and so plain in color, it was nice. But.....Flying. How strange that was..."Hello, little Kero. I am Mayrah'Kirrah. I...cannot fly, unfortunately, however, I do seem to have been at the end of the rainbow." She looked up, and smiled softly, calmly, "I shall come with you, if you'd like."
Kero wagged his tail happily and bounced around his prize in a circle, ears flicking about as a bubbly laugh escaped him. "Really? You'll come? You'll come? And... you can't fly? But how do you follow the rainbow then? Or was it jsut this rainbow?" He paused and thought for a moment. If there was more than one rainbow... well, he was sure his family would b satisfied that he found the end of one, at least! "It's nice to meet you, Mayra'Kirrah Rainbow's End!"
She smiled sweetly, tail flicking back and forth, and she smiled, "I can't follow the rainbow. I was simply resting. And the Rainbow happened to be there" She stretched slightly, looking around. "Where did you come from?" She said nothing else, a quiet sort after all. The young male was sweet. Mayrah herself was a quiet sort, after all.
Kero looked around, and then turned his had back the way he had come. "Um... about two days back in that direction," h said, pretty confident of his statement regardless of his lack of knowledge of his surroundings. "I was sent to bring back th nd of the rainbow! I can't go home until I do so I'm really glad you'll come! I thought I'd be chasing rainbows forver - do you think my mom will be okay that it's just one? I mean she didn't send my brothers off, or my sisters, and I'd really think she'd send my sisters on such an important mission but she didn't so I must be really special even though everyone says I talk too much - but that's silly, how can you talk too much? It's not like you're going to wear your voice out forever if you use it!" On and on he rambled, barely even pausing for breath.
She nodded slowly, moving her paws so that she was moving that way, "One is a good catch, youngling." She said nothing more, the female quiet, listening to his rambling. He was interesting, and he talked a lot for an adolescent.
"Youngling?" Kero echoed, tilting his head. "I'm not that young anymore! Mother said I was old enough to stop mooching and talking her ear off and old enough to go on this important mission to get the end of the rainbow," he said, tail still wagging. He tilted his head and smiled, still bouncing around like a pup half his age. Kero shook his head and watched miss Rainbow's End with large eyes. "I think she'll be surprised that I'm coming back so soon... we'd make it back faster if we could fly, though - I wish I could fly. Then my paws wouldn't gt so sore!"
She laughed quietly, "I've been happy to run long distances. I'm used to it. Though, I have been a free rogue since I was a child myself. " She'd been alone since pup-hood as well. Looking rather calm, the golden fur still flopped over her eye, she smiled, "Where to now, Kero?"
Kero blinked and paused, looking around for a long moment before he spotted a peculiar-looking rock he'd seen on the way here. "We pass the funny rock over there! The one that looks like a like a lion eating a gazelle if you tilt your had and squint at it just right!" He declared, gesturing at said rock with one paw. They would be able to find their way to his home fairly easily. Oh, boy, would evryone be happy to see that he'd caught the rainbow? Or... well, one part of it anyway. Did he hav to catch the other colors too? Miss rainbow's end counted for part of it for sure, but not all of it - even as they walked, he voiced his thoughts aloud. Kero wasn't one who liked silence.
She watched him, listening to him talk, "I think she will be happy with what you have done, little Kero. Please do not worry too terribly about it." Again with her silence. Mayrah liked to listen...It meant she heard such amazing things!
Kero smiled brightly and nodded, his pace becoming one of a not-quite bounce, not-quite skip as he kept pace with Ms. Rainbow End. "Yeah! Yeah, Mom will be proud! Maybe I'll even be as special as my stsers! I mean just beause I'm male doesn't mean I can't do great things or I wouldn't have gotten this mission in the first place!" The adolescent hyena declared happily, confident that he would earn some decent praise - or at least not any hits! - for bringing home the end of the rainbow! "Why would you want to leave the end of the rainbow, though? Isn't it a nice place there? Where I live isn't as nice as it should be, but Mom always said once we take the better place from the lions then it'll get better... 'course she was talking to my sisters at the time and I don't think I was supposed to be there to hear but that doesn't really matter! It was important information and I'm sure she just forgot me and my brothers! But she won't forget me now! At least not if you really do want to come!"
