The white lioness stood her back to her den. It was early realy early in the morning. Her head was still a little grogey just having woken up. Today the skys were clear, it could be a good sign, of course Jugnu didn't know what the day might hold she didn't have the sight blessed to her. She scowled a little. Jugnu was greatly ashamed of not having the sight, she came from such a powerful seer and yet she saw nothing. Some days she wondered if she should pretend to see, it would make her more important... but would others now. She was far to affraid of making the gods mad for faking it, they clearly didn't deem her important enough to have it in the first place.
Shaking her head Jugnu tried to clear the negative thoughts from her head and she began walking towards the watering whole. Perhaps there would be other pride members up early, and she would be able to distract herself. She as far as she knew didn't have any babysitting charges today. It was a day just to herself.

Joto'Damu had always been an early riser, despite being a bachelor on his own. He disliked waking to the chaos of the pride during mid-morning, so he made a habit out of becoming awake before it even began to start. In his mind he thought it a justifiable way to act grumpy towards the children that ran about making so much noise. Considering a fraction of those children were his grandchildren he had rights to acting like a grumpy around them. The others, well, Sadiki wouldn't care all that much if he acted like a crotchety man to his kids, they obviously were on his nerves for such a thing to happen and the others weren't so bothersome since they were much older than the others.
Joto dipped his head into the watering hole he had been starring into for the past twenty minutes and took a large drink of water. It felt nice to have the cool substance run down the back of his throat after such a dry night. It was abnormally dry, actually. It had been so humid recently that he wondered if the gods were changing their mind about the floods and were going to give them a drought. It would just be another thing to attribute to his daughters' reign.

Jugnu perked up a little when she saw another lion sitting there. It was interestingly enough a male sitting there. Jugnu always eyed the males of the pride with a certain amout of caution. She was never sure what they might be hiding, due to her lack of sight, she sighed... everything always looped back to it, no matter how she tired to think abotu life it came back to the fact that she couldn't see like the blessed ones, why did she have to be the one left out.
Sitting down at the edge of the watering hole Jugnu took long deep sips. She kept her eyes on the male as she drank. She didn't want anything to surprise her. She was keen on the idea of company she didn't know how to start up a conversation with male so instead she sat there and stared.

"Starring is a little rude, is it not?" Joto commented, picking his head up from the water's surface carefully and wiping the remaining drops from his muzzle. Had it not been for his already white coat, the signs of aging would have been far more noticeable had it not have been for this blessing.
He did not mean for his response to seem rude, but she was technically starring and regardless of what her starring was meant for, it was highly rude to stare at a council member like that. If she had been any younger he probably would have been a little more cross with her, but she was a grown woman and he was a grown man so it's not like he hadn't been checked out before. He just didn't appreciate it like he did when he was younger.
"Pardon my crassness," He said quietly.

Jugnu dipped her head down embaressed. It had been very rude of her to stare. She did recognize the lion she should have known he was safe, but at the same time she couldn't help but be nervous. It was just her nature, she hated not knowing what was going on in the world. "No it is me that should appologize. I should not have stared at you." her voice was quiet and very femine.
"My name is Jugnu" she told him quietly. She really did need to make more friends in her home land, and perhaps staring down members wasnt the best way to do that. It was kind of hard to make a good impression if she came off as standoffish and rude. "I am a cub sitter for the pride." she told him trying to ease into the conversational bits and take away from pressure that may have built up. If only she knew what he was thinking.

"Jugnu," He said, dipping his head to her respectfully, trying his best to keep his gruff voice a little softer. It had been mentioned to him more than once that he always sounded as if he was put off, regardless of whether he was interested or not, and that he should try to be a little softer in his approach if he wanted to have a real conversation with someone. He wasn't exactly looking for a real conversation with someone, but she had already struck one up, so he might as well go with it.
"I am Ikhansela Joto'Damu," He said, returning her introductions politely before continuing, "I imagine it's difficult work being a cub sitter right now. So many of them running about. It must make for good exercise."
He had seen Jugnu about every once and awhile on his way back from council meetings but never bothered much with it. He usually wanted to pass by that area rather quickly, what with his daughter bounding down to be with his b*****d grand-children and all. She was the utmost in disappointments.

Jugnu was happy that the male was going to partake in the conversation, she had learned it was very hard to have one sided conversations. Specially the ones she tried to have with cubs, she didn't know why she even bothered trying to converse with them, they weren't able to have complex thoughts, and the conversations tended to consist of mostly of the cubs asking "why". She shook her head, she didn't want to think about the cubs she cared for now, it was her day off after all.
"Yes the cubs are hard work, the keep me on toes." she chuckled, "Its what gives me my good figure." she joked trying to change the tone of the conversation, sensed that perhaps he disliked talking about the cubs as much as she did at the moment. "So Joto," she said turning the topic to him instead, "tell me more about yourself." Jugnu found herself relaxing a little, she didn't feel a need to be anthing she wasn't with this male, she wasn't sure why but she was at ease.

Joto was momentarily at a loss for words with how frank Jugnu was. It wasn't exactly a bad thing, just in his age he wasn't used to the younger generation being anything but overly rude or overly polite. It was nice to see someone who had a balance to them, even better since she had a sense of humor. He didn't use his very often, but he had to contend with either serious adults or idiotic children.
When the conversation turned to him, his brow furrowed momentarily as he searched for words. He hadn't been asked about himself in quite some time. He wasn't even sure he had the ability to talk about himself anymore, "Hrrmnn... There isn't much to me, you see. I am a widower, a father and grandfather."
Joto scratched under his chin quietly as he thought more to say, "Most of my time is dedicated to this pride and keeping it safe. I would consider it time well spent."

"I would have to agree with you, my whole life is this pride, it is all I know." Jugnu looked around the pride as she spoke. She had been born here in the pride and had never left it. her mother and grandmother had been members as well. However Jugnu hadn't met her father, it wasn't strange for those in the pride not to know their fathers. In Jugnu's case it had been a random rouge her mother had met. Perhaps part of the reason Jugnu didn't want to leave the pridal lands.
Listening to the male talk about his family made Jugnu feel very young and some what lonely. This male was probably old enough to be her father, but at the same time he didn't seem that old, he made her feel equal to him and comfortable after all. However as he spoke of his children and grandchildren Jugnu realized how lonely she was, "I am the last of my family. I was an only cub born to my mother. She too had been an only cub. Both my grandmother and mother are long dead now...they died up in the mountains." It was fairly normal for the lioness in the pride who had strong sight to die young it seemed, but it made Jugnu sad none the less, perhaps that was one plus side to her not possessing the sight, she would potentially live a long and happy life.

"It is good that your mother and grandmother lived and died in this pride. Their souls will be protected by the gods for their dedication, as will yours when the gods decide your time has come to an end," Joto said, though his tone was not sorrowful, but proud. To him anyone who was born in this pride ought to die in this pride. It was the only right thing for them. They couldn't expect the gods to protect them so when they've turned their backs on the pride and left, could they?
"I am surprised though. With being an only cub, surely you would want to conceive as quickly as you could, wouldn't you?" He said with speculation. Not that he doubted her duty as the last female of her family, or even a female of this pride, but what exactly would cause her to wait with conceiving knowing that she is the last one. Perhaps she is like his deceased wife, waiting until the perfect male came to pass.
It was both silly and amiable when he pondered it for a time. To wait that long to find someone obviously shows a woman's willingness to stay in a relationship exclusively, but to also wait that long when she is the only one left of her line? It was ludicrous. She could succumb to a freak accident and the line would end with her.

Jugnu nodded as the male spoke of the honor of the pride. It was true that pride did make her very proud. Her problem was that she was concerned that the gods wouldn't bless her with children of sight, after all she didn't have the sight. "I know that I should have children, and I probably should have them soon. To tell you the truth, I feel I need to find someone to sire my cubs that the gods would be happy with. Although my mother and grandmother had strong sight I was not blessed, I want my children to be blessed." Jugnu had put a lot of thought into who her sire should be and had yet to see someone who fit the bill.
"One day soon, it would be wrong for e not to have cubs, and really I should have more then one litter. I just hope that my litters are filled with pale, sighted girls." she felt a little silly worrying about such things but sighted females were the future of the pride.

"You should not fret on such things," Joto said with a small gruffness to his voice, "The Gods are not punishing you, no. Your mother, yes. She did something wrong, and that is why you are sightless. I've seen it happen before."
Joto thought her a little daft to feel she was being punished by not having the sight, and while it was true that her not having the sight was not good, it was never the child's fault. The parents were always punished for their deeds through the child. If Jugnu was as dedicated to the pride and their ways as she claimed, her daughters would have the sight. The only other explanation he could think of was her line being cursed, but of course since it was only Jugnu who was sightless that was preposterous.
"Your dedication will not go unrewarded." He said.

Jugnu listened and nodded her head when he told her that she was't to blame. But her mother had always looked down on her one and only daughter, she blamed herslef even as a cub for not being as good as her mother. She shook her head trying to clear her thoughts away from the negetive, it was true that she had been very dedicated to the pride even if she didn't have the sight she cared for the cubs who were in the pride and tried hard to be her best.
"You are right, I really shouldn't be putting off having cubs, my girls will be blessed I am sure." she smiled weakly at first but as she thought of her very own cubs, females that had the sight. "I first have to find a suitable male though, I am not goig to have cubs with just anyone. The sire of my cubs must be pale, and strong." she nodded her head. Jugnu eyed the male she was talkig to he would be a good male to sire cubs, but she wasn't about to ask him. However he was a good says, good coloring, and clearly loyal to the pride, the gods would have nothing against his children.

"Have you considered looking outside the pride?" Joto asked, having not noticed that he was being eyed by the lioness.
He would not have minded the eyeing, in all honesty. Since the death of his last mate to the floods, he had been on the lonely side recently. The attentions of a female, young or old, would at least give him a boost of confidence that he was still considered desirable. Especially after his last botched attempt at finding himself a mate. He took an excursion to the Rogue Lands in search and came back empty handed and dirty as a common dog.
"I normally wouldn't recommend such thing," He admitted, looking over to Jugnu, "Pridal bias and all, but it may be an option for you. Unless you are looking for something more permanent."

Jugnu thought kindly about what the male had said to her. Going outside of the pride she hmmed and huhhed about it in her head.. the idea actually was an interestig one but Jugnu had never set a toe outside of the pride lands, and it just didn't seem like something she wanted to do now. "I'm not sure I could leave the pride, I only know the pride and I am in no hurry to know anything else." she told him finally saying her thoughts outloud. "Plus I wouldn't want cubs with someone who didn't know and love our home.... this place is my life and in my books that means everything" She offered a gentle smile to go along with her strong words.
"Perhaps at sometime I will find someone here... I haven't really looked yet. But now that we have talked about cubs I feel that my maternal clock may have begun ticking." she spoke softly but her mind was raising, she hoped that she hadn't waisted the time she had to have cubs, really she should have started younger she wanted to have more then one litter. She hopped that they wouldn't have a small litter like her mother and grandmother had before her .
She watched the male as she spoke. She mildly wondered if she should tell him that she thought he could be ideal.... but she had just met him she didn't know how he would take it. Instead she shuffled her paws in the dirst instead.
