Nailah sat down in the temple, relishing the cool stones underneath her tired and warm paws. She didn't do much today, except for going to her lessons. As she was getting older, she realized that she didn't have much time to play with her friends, and that she had to get ready to follow in her mother's footsteps of being a nanny. At least she liked cubs and her day would be consisted of caring after them.
She couldn't help but smile as she daydreamed about what her future life would be like.

Hiimatayt loved her lessons. She wasn't always stellar at them, but she tried as hard as she could. Most of the time her instructors understood that she was trying hard to please them, and that she'd get what they were teaching her eventually, so they weren't too hard on her. She was relieved about that, since she hated to disappoint people and she loved to learn new things.
Fortunately, today had been a good day. She'd gotten the lesson right away and even been told that she had done a good job. Thus she was skipping when she came out of her lessons and moved to the shade of the temple. It was too hot after morning lessons to do much moving about outside in the sun, particularly for a cub with a dark coat like Tay's. With any luck there'd be others having the same thought and she could meet them and make new friends.
The prospect of making new friends had her practically singing as she skipped, which was hardly energy efficient, but it helped her work off some of her excess happy. There were days when she felt so happy it was like she would burst. They weren't her most observant days, however, and so she actually managed not to see the older lioness daydreaming about her future until she'd already stumbled over her.
"Oh! Hi. I'm sorry! Are you all right? Hello," she said all in a rush.

Nailah almost toppled over, but quickly regained her posture. "Oh! It's alright." She smiled at the younger lion, showing that she wasn't angry or anything. Noticing the other was extremely joyful, she couldn't help but ask why, "Did something wonderful happen today?" she questioned, amused.
"Oh. I'm Nailah by the way."

"Yes, absolutely!" Tay enthused. "Lessons went really well."
Nailah's smile had reassured her sufficiently that she wasn't injured, and so she didn't feel bad in switching to talking about herself. Particularly since the older lioness had asked. The fact that lessons going really well was a relatively small thing in the grand scheme of things didn't register for Tay, because it was important in her universe.
"It's really nice to meet you Nailah. I didn't mean to trip over you. I wasn't looking where I was going. But I got to meet you, so things turned out well, right?"
She smiled and and her dark eyes lit up with delight as she realized that things had turned out well - she'd met someone new. It didn't matter to her that Nailah was older than she was. Age was no reason not to befriend a person, and older people sometimes had really great stories to tell, and knew things Tay didn't. It was exciting to meet new people.
"I'm Hiimatayt. But my family and friends and everyone call me Tay. You should, too, Nailah."

"That's good to hear Tay." Nailah said, "And don't worry about tripping over. It's all good." She herself had been quite the klutz when she was younger. She was still a little clumsy now. The lioness resisted the urge to scoop up Tay and snuggle with her. She really liked little cubs and babies. But, she told herself, she should look dignified and set an example for the younger generation.
Yeah okay.
"Oh. You're so cute Tay." Nailah gushed, nuzzling the younger female. "It's so wonderful meeting you."

"Oh, good. I really didn't mean to. I'm not usually clumsy, you know." She giggled. "I was just really, really happy. More so than usual, I mean, and I just wasn't paying attention."
Ordinarily, Tay really wasn't clumsy. She wasn't the most graceful cub in the pride, certainly, but she was pretty good at coordinating her limbs and making them all look decent while she was doing it. She even danced. Frequently, in fact, since she tended to do so when she was happy, and she was frequently happy.
"Thank you! It's wonderful meeting you, too. You're really pretty, you know."
It tickled Tay to be called cute. She didn't get called cute very often. Which might have seemed strange, given her behavior and personality, but she was really not used to being called cute. Or complimented. She was pleased to have earned herself a compliment, and startled to have done so by being clumsy.

Nailah gaped, feeling her face grow warm, "You think I'm pretty?" she asked in disbelief. She had never heard any compliment like that, well except from her parents, but they were her parents and they would always say things like that. This was the first time she had heard such a thing from anyone. Especially someone she had met in the span of five minutes.
"S-so, what were you doing?" she said, trying to regain her composure, wanting to set a good example to Tay.

"Well, yeah," Tay said. "When I'm older, I hope I look as pretty as you. I won't look like you, of course, since we look completely different, but I could still be pretty like you, maybe, when I'm too old to be cute."
She did know that cute was a child adjective, and she didn't want to be cute for her entire life. She wanted to be at least pretty as a grown-up so that...well, she didn't know why it was better to be pretty, but that's what everyone wanted to be, and she didn't want to be ugly when she grew up. It wasn't likely, though. Everyone in her family was too attractive for that to be her fate.
"I was just heading home to tell my parents that I'd done a good job in lessons today, but I got distracted a little on my way back so my brothers and sisters all got ahead of me. And now I'm talking to you, so they're way ahead of me, but that's okay because I got to meet you. I'm glad I got to meet you. You're really nice."

"That's really great to hear!" Nailah smiled at Tay, "I'm sure your parents will be extremely proud of you!" The lioness was still flattered that she was called 'pretty'. Still being quite young, she was always called cute or adorable, especially with her shy personality, she was always the cute one. It was quite lovely to hear that she was pretty now, being that she was to be a full grown adult soon, and she would have to leave childhood to be a sophisticated adult lioness with other adults.
"Oh, I'm sure you'll be much prettier than me Tay." she nodded, why with your pretty dark fur and pretty eyes, I'm sure you'll be courted constantly when you're older!" at least that was one thing she was good at, making others feel good about themselves.
"You should hurry along then!" she nudged her along with a friendly smile, "Tell your parents how well you did in your lectures and brag to your siblings. We can always talk again later." she grinned.
