Whip
Fighting with a whip is like fighting with a lighter and flexible ax. You must keep your weapon always moving or lose the momentum of it. Constant movement keeps your opponent from grabbing the whip, or coming in too close for you to strike. Though the thong is not the only dangerous part of your weapon, so if your opponent does slip in for close combat, be sure to utilize a heavy handle to make him regret it. Skills in this style revolve mostly around deception and fronts so that your opponent does not know what to expect. The whip is like a snake, use it as one.
Blacksnake
Rank: E
Description: If your opponent gets too close to you, simply reverse your hold on the whip, so that the thong is facing backward. You can then strike your opponent with the handle of your whip, like a club.
Underhanded
Rank: E
Description: A deceptive skill. Placing energy through the length of your whip you make it seem like your weapon is longer than it actually is, keeping your opponent at a farther away distance. This can be used to begin more peaceful negotiations, or to give you time to set up a strategy.
Bruce Lee
Rank: D
Description: Similarly to Blacksnake, reverse your hold on the whip. But instead of grasping the handle, grip further down the thong so that the handle can move freely. Now simply swing the handle of your whip around like a nunchuk. Use only in close-combat situations, and pay attention to where your thong is, your opponent might grab it.
X-man
Rank: D
Description: A psychological advance. While moving forward quickly strike you whip in an ‘X’ pattern in front of you. Make sure your movement is fast and consistent. Your opponent will want to get away from the end of the whip and so should retreat, allowing you to catch them off-guard with a follow-up technique.
Gotcha!
Rank: D
Description: A simple technique that can be used at almost any moment. Striking out with your whip you do not retract it, instead allow the thong to wrap around an object (weapon, tree branch, limb, lamp, table, fork etc.). Once the item has been secured retract the whip with a strong movement. This can be used to throw things at your opponent, disarming your opponent, or cheating your opponent out of a limb. Caution when wrapping an opponent as he can easily undo the wrap and now he has your weapon!
Rope Dart
Rank: D
Description: Similar to the ‘Bruce Lee’ technique. Grabbing the very end of your whip you can use it as you would normally, only now the end of the whip is very hard and the momentum gathered from the movement and weight of it can break bones. However, it is slightly slower and movement and can be easily caught.
Hipshot
Rank: D
Description: Used mostly only at the beginning of a fight when facing an opponent with your whip on your hip. Keep your hands down at your waist to give a sense of peaceful intent. Grab the handle of your whip and toss it with great force, adding a little energy to help propel it forward allowing it to strike your opponent. This could break a nose or a hand or even knock your opponent unconscious, ending the fight before it even starts.
Sjambok
Rank: C
Description: Flowing energy through the thong of the whip to make it a bit stiffer. This allows for slightly stronger blows and makes the whip a little easier to control, however, this causes the whip to lose its cracking ability, so don’t expect to be cutting any skin with this technique.
Overcompensation
Rank: C
Description: A simple technique mainly used as a setup for something else. Using the same principles as Sjambok place energy into the thong starting from the base of the handle. This will cause it to stiffen to the same hardness as the handle. Congratulations, you now have a really long stick! This can be done partially as well, to increase the length of the handle to create more of a bullwhip feel to your weapon.
Curly-Q
Rank: C
Description: Carefully, so as not to injure yourself, draw the thong of the whip back and catch it in the same hand as the one holding the handle. If you are not using a long-handled whip, use Overcompensation to create one. Keeping the thong in a loose D-shaped loop you can strike your opponent, jab at him, or even block an attack. When blocking an attack you can use the loop to catch the approaching limb, such as his leg, and move the whip to toss him to the ground.
Stingray
Rank: B
Description: Without losing momentum the user switches their whip into their off hand and flicks their wrist back. As the thong travels back towards them they hold out their hand with a small pack in the palm. The end of the whip travels across their palm, opening the packet and coating the striking end of the whip with poison. As the thong recoils the user switches the whip back to their other hand. And follows through with a strike towards bare flesh. The illusion that the user is making a mistake, backing off, or attacking themselves should allow for a successful hit. Just make sure you aim for skin.
Hangman’s Noose
Rank: A
Description: This technique is deceptively similar to Gotcha. However, instead of wrapping, which the setup for can be identified by trained eyes, this is a nearly impossible-to-discern attack. Moving and cracking the whip as you would normally, craftily make a loop within the length of the thong. Pause only a moment to allow the loop to fall over your opponent’s head then quickly yank back on the handle to secure the thong around your opponent’s neck. This will then begin to suffocate them, and might even instantaneously crush their windpipe. Be sure you have enough room to walk backwards, because if your opponent moves forward the tension of the whip is lost and the loop will loosen. This can also be used for catching upraised arms or weapons for a sudden and surprise disarming.
Karma
Rank: S
Description: a very easy and amusing technique. It is very dangerous to use a whip without proper training, this makes good on that knowledge. Place only a small amount of energy into the very end of your whip. Perform several flashy sort of moves with your whip then pretend to drop it on accident. Allow your opponent to pick it up, and make sure to look like you’re in trouble. Now stand back and watch as your opponent injures himself by using the whip with you controlling the thong. Once you’ve had your fun, retract your energy to return the tip of the whip to your hand, possibly setting up for Rope Dart. Be aware though, your opponent might not let go, and it will turn into a tug-of-war that, depending on his strength, he might win. Then you will really be in trouble.
