“Are you sure you want to go to an insectarium?” Vilyum asked, raising his eyebrow.
“Mmmhmm,” Áróra replied cheerfully, “they are so cute and crawly!”
Vilyum chuckled in response and shielded his eyes. It was a good day to spend indoors he thought. The sunlight was blinding, at least he thought it was, and there was nary a cloud to in the sky to block it, and the weather suffered for it, being unseasonably warm for a winter day.
Áróra skipped towards the rather nondescript entrance with Vilyum following after. She easily pulled the door open and with a bow announced, “After you.”
Vilyum grinned and shook his head slightly and walked through the door. “One adult and one child please,” he stated to the women seated at the admissions desk.
She wordlessly nodded and then took his money.
“Where to first?” Vilyum inquired.
“The spiders! I want to see a spider!” Áróra proclaimed.
“Very well,” Vilyum replied and then they made their way through an archway covered in fake spider webbing.

Kana giggled and tried to grab at the webbing around the spider's area with two of her hands as she clung to her mother's hand with her other two. "Mommy, Mommy, we're gonna see buggies like me, right right?" She asked, craning her head around as her six eyes tried to drink in every sight they possibly could. "Will we meet my Daddy here, Mommy? Does Daddy live with the other spiders?!?" the toddler asked, her eyes lighting up at the mere thought.
Paulie shook her head, amusement dancing in her eyes as she looked down at her charge. "I... don't think he lives here, no Kana-baby." she said, though she couldn't rule out the possibility of running into the strange being here, she supposed. Her daughter's file folder had been an... interesting read, to say the least. "Here, Kana, why don't we find someone to explore with you, huh? You can teach them all about spiders!"
All six of Kana's eyes lit up at that idea, and she immediately started searching the crowd for a likely-looking person - a little girl with bright red eyes who had just entered with hr apparent father. Just another moment later and Kana was off, screeching to a halt in front of the other girl, smiling brightly with all of her sharp teeth glinting. "Hi! I'm Kana! Who are you? You look tasty!"

Áróra stopped mid step as another little girl suddenly appeared in front of her. “Hi Kana!” she exclaimed, “ I’m Áróra! You have such pretty eyes and so many of them! Four arms?! Cool!”
A puzzled look spread across Áróra’s face. “I look….tasty?” she questioned as she pulled her arm up close to her mouth and licked it. “I just taste skin,” she commented, still with a puzzled look on her face. Thinking about it for a moment she asked, “What do you taste like? Do people taste different?”
“Hi… Kana is it?” Vilyum asked the little girl, “do you have a parent somewhere around here?”
“Do you …taste people often?” he inquired not quite sure how to take her introduction.

Paulie cursed under her breath and chased after Kana, catching up to her daughter and grabbing her by a free hand before the little monster toddler could even attempt to "taste" the other child. "Kana, how many times have I told you not to try and eat everyone?!?" No matter how many times it was said, that statement still sounded wrong and disturbing... but not quite as disturbing as the distressed pout the little redhead shot at her mother, making it clear that she had indeed been considering it.
"But Mommy," she whined just once, before turning her focus back to the other toddler. "I don't know what I taste like; I can't taste myself, silly! But uh-huh, people all ltaste different but Mommy," and here she paused to scowl up at her parent, sharp teeth glinting and all of her golden eyes narrowed, "Won't let me 'cause she says it's not nice!"
Because deciding who was a good snack was so much more important than being nice and making friends.
Paulie sighed and rubbed at the bridge of her nose, trying to fight off the rapidly-forming stress headache she was developing. "I am so sorry about her. But she won't touch your kid as long as she's told not to."

“Eat everyone?” Áróra questioned with a confused look on her face. She then very lightly bit her arm, her face still filled with confusion, “Why?” “How come you can’t taste yourself? Do you taste a lot of people? Why do you do it if it’s not nice?” Questions filled Áróra’s mind, she was having trouble even putting words to her thoughts on the subject, all she could do was manage to restate everything as a question; the very concept of it just flat out left her bewildered.
Biting her lip slightly she turned to Vilyum, looked up, and whispered, “I think she eats people daddy.”
In response, Vilyum picked up Áróra and asserted, “You don’t have to worry; her mommy said she won’t bite if she is told not to.”
“Ok daddy…..” Áróra trailed off, still quite confused about the whole situation.
Turning to Paulie, Áróra still wrapped in his left arm, he stated, holding his right hand out to shake “Hi, I am Vilyum and this is Áróra; it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Kana nodded and giggled, ignoring her Mommy to smile at the other girl. "Uh-huh! Blood is tasty an' ever'body has diffren' blood, so it's always fun to meet new people an' taste 'em.... but Mommy says it's not polite so I can't 'nymore." As she finished her statement, a pout crossed the spider-child's face and she scrubbed at her forehead with one of her hands before adding, "An' I can't taste myself 'cause eating myself would be silly, silly!"
Paulette sighed, finding herself rather exasperated by her daughter (as she always seemed to be these days), and shook Vilyum's hand with a slightly exhausted smile. "Paulette Branning, you can call me Paulie... and you've already met Kana - sorry for how she introduces herself, I have yet to break her of that habit."

“Um…ok,” Áróra uttered, still quite unsure of this, “Well since you are not going to try and eat me….” She then let go of Vilyum and with a slight push and a spread of her wings, she floated back down to the ground. She then made her way away from Vilyum and towards the other girl. Holding her right hand out to Kana, she stated, “Hello Kana, aren’t the spiders here interesting? It would be fun to crawl all over the place on webs and have a bunch of legs, though you have a bunch of arms.”
Vilyum shook his head slightly and replied to Paulie, “No need to apologize, no harm done. Good luck in breaking her of that habit; I imagine it would take some time.”

Kana took the other girl's hand in hers and giggled. "Uh-huh! they're lots like me! Maybe I have fam'ly here!" She seemed incredibly excited by the prospect, and practically danced in place. "D'ya think there are any spiders tha' look like me?"
Paulie nodded and grimaced. "No kidding. I don't even know where she picked it up."

Suddenly more at ease, Áróra giggled as the girl took her hand. “I wonder if you do!” she exclaimed a wide smile forming on her face. “We should look around and try and find some that you might be related to. You are a lot bigger than most spiders, maybe we should start with the biggest spider they have! Do you know where that is?” She didn't know if the other girl would have any relatives here, but she couldn't wait to find out.
“Well, at least Áróra seems to have forgotten how much Kana’s initial comments troubled her,” he added with a slight chuckle.

Looking around curiously, Kana pointed in a random direction. "Maybe ov'r there? But no fuzzy spiders though 'cause I'm not fuzzy!" She chirped and started tugging her new friend off, eager to find her spider-parent. Surely she had family in here somewhere! They had lots of legs and eyes just like her, after all!
"Wait, Kana, that's -" Paulie started to say, and then shrugged and rolled her eyes. "Let her find out on her own, I guess... and yeah, I'm glad that blew over. Kana doesn't need banned from another place."

“Ok, let’s go!” Áróra exclaimed as she followed behind Kana. “No fuzzy spiders though? But your head is fuzzy!” she added with a giggle, “All that hair! Maybe there is a spider with red fuzz and that’s where you got the red on your hair!” She couldn’t wait to see if they would find a spider that was related to her new friend.
Vilyum couldn’t help but shake his head slightly, a grin spread across his face. “I wonder how long they will search for some long lost relative?” he asked, more as a rhetorical question. Then he added, “So, um, if you don’t mind me asking, has she been banned from a lot of places?”

Kana blinked and giggled. "I hadn't thought of that!" She chirped, and then stalked up to look at a few spiders. "What about this one?" It was a vaguely brownish yellow spider, but it would b best to start simply.
Paulie watched the girls skip off, and looked rather exhausted. "She's gotten kicked out of the first daycare I tried to enroll her in; we're banned from two petting zoos and one indoor playground... honestly I'm running out of places to take the little hellspawn."

“Hmm,” Áróra uttered as she leaned in close to examine the brownish yellow spider. She then straightened and leaned in close to Kana, closely examining her as well. “I don’t know. I don’t really such much of a resemblance… It’s um, what’s the skin of a spider called? Well that has some yellow and your eyes are yellow, but I don’t really see anything else…“ Áróra shrugged slightly; she didn’t think Kana was related to this one. Maybe she would be related to the next though!
“Wow, she has been kicked out of a lot of place,” he replied, ‘Luckily, I have never really seemed to have that problem with Áróra. She is a bit excitably and often runs off, but she doesn’t really ever get into trouble.”

"Oh," Kana said sadly. "You don' think this one is related?" She asked, then shrugged and moved over to another one. "What about... this one?!" Surely this one was a little more promising, right? Her spider-family had to be in here somehow, they just had to!
"You're lucky, then," Paulie said, rolling her eyes a little. "I swear I was given mine just to cause problems."

“Aww, don’t be sad,” Áróra replied, “I’m sure we will find one that looks like it could be related to you!” Moving to the next spider, she began the process of comparing the two again. She pressed her face up to the glass, to get a good look. After examining it as closely as she could, she once more leaned up to Kana, to reexamine her. “Well,” she began, “the spider does have some red on it, which is like your hair. Can you make a web? It looks like it makes a big one!”
“Well maybe she will grow out of it?” Vilyum stated with a shrug.
